I called several Targets and found one with $25 Disney Gift Cards. I just went over lunch and had to go through an explanation process with the manager about the deal since they only had the Cyber week Ad in their window and not the ad with the deal. Eventually someone over the walkie talkie found it online and said it was up to his discretion to limit me. I bought 5 pairs of $25 Disney Gifts with my RedCard and received a $5 Target Gift Card with each pair.
Side Note: The register charged me $47.75 instead of $47.50 because the manager just charged me for a $5 Target Gift Card and reduced the amount of the bill by $5 which actually made the computer think I was only paying $45 for Disney Gift Cards. 5% of $45 is $2.25 off. I didn't bark about the 5x$.25 though.
I then used the 5 Target Gift Cards to buy a $25 Disney Gift Card. Overall, I spent $238.75 for $275 in Disney Gift Cards (13.2% savings). Had he charged me right, it would have been $237.50 for $275, or 13.6% savings.
Thanks robinb for your encouragement. Overall I'd say on a difficulty scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the most difficult, it was a 4. Not easy enough to tell my Mom (who gets nervous easily) or my non-Disney-crazy friends to do it. But the payoff is nice.
Just wanted to say thanks because I'm actually one of those anxious people who like slick deals, but wouldn't want to cause trouble to workers and other customers waiting in line. But with your detail experience, I found courage and went ahead to try. I kept telling myself it wouldn't be a big deal if one Target said no, because there are literally 6 Targets between home and work for me.
I just got back and am estatic about it. Been doing Raise/Cardpool/eBay/SB/PTV to accumulate Target GCs for our first couple WDW trip, hopefully January 2017. So we had a long time before we cycle to Disney GCs, but with this potential 2x$25.00 Disney GC with a $5.00 Target GC, I couldn't resist in converting to Disney GC because even without the Redcard, it was a straight 10% conversion from Target to Disney GC, versus the traditional 5% Redcard.
I went to the first Target and made sure they had the correct AD posted on the front. Found $600.00 worth of DGC in $25.00 increments and went to the cashier. I guess I found a manager by accident when I went up to the person who was managing the self pay machine for help.
Explained to her that I need help on a weird transaction. Explained I bought a bunch of $25.00 Disney GC at the Target near my work and they had to manually help me process the promo. She found the AD on page 20 and tried to ring it up on the system. Of course the system didn't work. I continued my fictional story that the Target near worked helped me buyout their stock of GC. Explained it was a great deal and that the Target near my work recommended me to try another Target to get enough for my
Disneyland trip. She was more than happy to manually honor it through "coupons" to get me the $5.00 Target GC for each pair.
She also asked if I wanted to use my Redcard for an additional 5% discount. She mentioned she does it all the time before a Disneyland trip. We joked that Disneyland is getting more expensive each year and said she was a huge helped. I used my mobile combined Target GC to pay it off and I was on my way.
Depending on who you get to help you, and how friendly you are, I think this was an easy request!
Too long; didn't read summary: Found a Target Member who sympathized with me and was willing to help me out.
