Another 18 nights RPR, just the two of us & HHN (2015 Trip)

OMG those burgers from Teak look AH-Mazing!!! Yum

Oh they really are amazing!! Definitely worth a visit to have a meal there.......literally 5 minutes from Universal......

agree! pretzel bun looked tasty, so many are an insult to the name lol.

Carole - We rarely leave U resorts to eat, Disney is another story. While we have several places there we do enjoy, typically go offsite in the surrounding area to eat majority of times. Sorry to hear ur back was acting up this trip, all better now?

Your encounter with the woman on the Disney 'spiritual' journey has to be in the top ten of weird Orlando tales! USO for us = action & excitement, WDW is more familiar territory and laid back. I have an emotional connection via the whole Disney geek thing lol. When just he & me, there is no pressure to commando since we have been fortunate to be able to visit often over the years. When family is in tow, I brace myself for a marathon. I realize for most it isn't so - more the reverse when staying onsite @ USO with FOTL and the ability to have a happy medium of relaxing and enjoying the parks via the FOTL perk. Have to wonder why she didn't just hotwire/priceline something offsite @ WDW for a few days in lieu of an onsite Loews package. Oh well, no pleasing some people, especially if they aren't willing to fully commit to a new experience.

It may be a rainy eve but I see a rainbow in the bottom left corner, a sure sign of good luck!

2015-orlando-488-jpg.130376

Yes I hate pretzels......but buns are something else!

Back all good now......was a weird one as it was back to normal by next day..........

Lady in lounge was odd.......what makes it even odder, she was British.....so had to have been booked for a fair time I imagine.........I just got fed up listening to her slate how bad Universal is so I tittled off, Tom was left gassing to her.....lol......she just couldn't believe we didn't go to Disney.......you know me Janet, never knock Disney......just not for us.......but she didn't understand and kept shaking her head......each to their own.....we met a few like that though........yeah we like a happy medium......and we did get some real chill time this trip with pool time.......

Never noticed the rainbow......lol........it got quite heavy for a while but was off by morning.......

Oh and weird people seem to attach themselves to us at times! One told Tom he looked like her dead first husband!!!

Your pictures of your husband just make me happy. He has the same amazing grin in every one. Looks like you had a great time. Next time you go you should load the Uber app on your phone. Great rides and cheaper than taxis.

oh my gosh that burger!! that is totally the sort of thing my partner would eat, I'm already jotting down the name of the restaurant for our next visit to Orlando :)

Oh my...I think I just gained 5 lbs drooling over that donut burger...thanks for the food porn.

Thanks....I kinda like his smile too.........we did have the best time!

As for uber, never use them at all. We don't bring a phone with us on vacation.......no need really.......and the cars outside the hotel are usually around $20 plus tip, so not expensive at all for where we go.......

Glad you're enjoying reading along..........:)

Can't multi quote tonight..........

Rachel, you have to go there......its one of the best local places around and so cheap too for what you get....think we were around $30 before tip.........well worth it..........don't think there's a bad burger among them :thumbsup2

Lol........can I give you my 5lbs and the other 5 I gained too........:rotfl:

Glad you enjoying it Vicki...........:wave2:

I'm dying:lmao:, not in the sense of the dead husband.

Lol......it was funny....well, now it is.......was weird at the time. We had spotted this woman constantly watching us......First time we saw her she almost screamed when we walked into the breakfast room.......didn't think we were that ugly....... it wasn't in Orlando it was in Switzerland good few years ago.......anyway we were having dinner one night and she finally approached us......clutching this picture........long story short Tom was the image of her husband who had died about 10 years previous......showed us his picture and there was a definite resemblance........her present husband kept apologising and I think she was a little "delicate" :ssst:
Anyway, we were glad to move on to another city after a day or so......felt like we were under the microscope.......of course me being me kept imagining it in a horror film scenario......I wouldn't walk anywhere alone in case she popped out like a scary movie

I could write a book.........we're like magnets at times for doozies and odd folks! Maybe it's us.........:scratchin

After sleeping for 2 hours, we felt so much better. It`s something I would never do at home, actually go to bed for a sleep during the day.......maybe snooze on the sofa particularly in the winter is something I have been known to do.......but, it did us the world of good. Not quite sure why we were so tired....Tom said it might be something to do with the fact we`ve been awake from 6.30am and not going to bed till late after being in 90 degree heat all day.....lol.....ok maybe that was why. But we got showered and changed and headed up to the lounge for a bit before we went out.

Lounge was fairly quiet again tonight, but everyone was tucking into the food that looked so nice tonight......a Chinese style dish of pork and noodles was the hot offering and it did look nice.....I did have a small salad with some of the gorgeous blue cheese dressing I dislike so much at home....Tom had some cheese and couple of crackers. We settled with our wine and looked out of the window, it was a lovely night again........we could have sat there all night actually, we knew all the staff well tonight and enjoyed chatting to them so much.......they really were the nicest guys....and young Colby who we knew from last year was there.....first we had seen him this year......nice young man.

But we left as we had a reservation, quite early tonight our table was for 7pm. So we got a car again from outside the hotel......Justin was a cool guy who we spoke a lot to and always asked where were going, as a local he always offered us several options.....plenty to consider next time. Car got us there in 5 minutes and we told him we would make our own way back. I was sure we would use one of their drivers again.

i-wC89RvL-X2.jpg

We arrived and again, it was so hot.......lovely.....which made it so nice entering the nicely air conditioned restaurant. Lori recognised us immediately behind some other couples and waved.....one she had sorted them she came over and hugged us and asked if we had a reservation, it didn`t matter if we didn`t....but she just hadn`t seen our name.......so she took us to our table and we immediately said how welcome this place makes you feel.

We felt like cocktails tonight so I knew what I was having again......Berries and Bubbles for me and I think Tom ended up with wine again.......but I`m not sure......missed that!!

i-nTc3pjZ-X2.jpg

i-S42gtrD-X2.jpg

We knew roughly what we were having to eat tonight......Tom was going for his Surf and Turf appetiser again, he had enjoyed it so much first time.......I thought I might have sushi. But which one was a choice as there was several that sounded delicious.......I had explained my allergies again so our server who wasn`t Dan tonight as he was off.......Kevin was good too.......so he had checked and they could leave anything off the food on those.......so I eventually chose the Dynamite Roll........it was a good choice......I actually thought he had thought I wanted that for a main as Tom`s came out first.......turns out the timing was off for hours because of my questions about allergies, so Tom was going to wait.....told him not to and enjoy it warm, mine wouldn`t be far away........it wasn't and didn`t disappoint.........

i-zF7g4cJ-X2.jpg

i-K2zww44-X2.jpg

Oh my goodness!!! This was a large portion and so delicious.......the stuff on top was shrimp lightly battered with spicy sauce.......it was lovely......and yes I did share with Tom....who is used to me stealing a bit of his dinner......he thought it was lovely also.....but says his appetiser is one of the nicest he has eaten. Scallops were just perfect.

What was nice tonight we didn`t order our mains till after we had eaten our appetisers......so we had a lovely even longer break between courses........in such a nice atmosphere this was very welcome. Eventually Kevin came back and asked what we were choosing for main........Tom was having the Ribeye served medium, I opted for the NY strip medium rare......I usually choose the filet, but wanted a change tonight. We were having exactly the same sides as last time as they were delicious. Honeyed carrots and jalapeno au gratin potatoes. We know what we like usually.

I had a different cocktail for my second......it was called Black Orchid and sounded nice, it was lovely....had a real flower in an ornate ice cube in the glass.......I did prefer the Bubbles and Berries one though, but did want to try it.

i-vv3cZ8B-X2.jpg

i-sVzGc6n-X2.jpg

The steaks were the best steaks we have ever eaten!! Cooked to perfection......sometimes I find I have to return them as they are more medium for me......but this was sublime!!! Full of flavour and they were a bigger steak than we expected. To say we couldn`t find a fault is an understatement........both meals we had eaten in here were perfect and certainly worth ever penny or cent we paid. We had definitely found a restaurant we will come back to several times year after year. The whole atmosphere is wonderful with lovely food and staff....can`t ask for much more........

Kevin asked if we wanted a picture together......always......so he said he would get someone else as he was the worst photographer ever.....so after a few minutes a lady came over and took it.....well, she took two and first one we both have our eyes closed........but we like this picture.

i-RMqXznm-X2.jpg

We have absolutely no room for dessert.....they have a baked Alaska that is supposed to be out of this world......we had planned to share it and I could eat a little of it.....but we would have burst. So we paid the check and on the way out we said our goodbyes to Lori, and got a car sorted.....she is such a nice lady and best front of house lady we ever saw......very professional but friendly as well. We chatted about a few things till car came then headed out promising we would be back next year.

It wasn't too late and because of our sleep we were not tired......so we got back to our room and got changed into less dressy an outfit and walked into Citywalk.......this was one of the few nights we left the camera behind in the room deliberately. Citywalk was busy but we decided to go play minigolf.....usually we did both sides but tonight we chose the haunted side which is more fun....especially at night......it wasn`t busy but we did laugh at the guys behind us.....wow talk about competitive.....this guy thought he was Arnold Palmer.......he kept giving his friends tips and they were like, so over him by now, its mini golf buddy....... we let them pass as I am rubbish at golf......but somehow manage to win.......lol.......I didn`t win tonight however as Tom whoopped me. Kyle would have enjoyed this as he likes mini golf a lot especially at night when it`s all lit up. We took our time and soon we were done. It is such a good course and well themed........

We headed to Margaritaville now for a quick cocktail and again it was busy and loud.....we sat at the bar and passed an hour or so singing to Jimmy Buffet before walking back to the hotel....... It was fairly late now and we would be ready for bed time we got back. Even at night on the path I never feel wary, you pass a few people and the boats are always passing. We did notice security guys on their bikes more at night which made us feel ok too. It was midnight now, so yep we were practically falling into bed for another brilliant sleep.

Another park day tomorrow.

I totally get where you're coming from. Holiday midday naps are the best thing but it would feel odd having one at home.

I can't multi quote but I also was laughing my button off at the description of the overly competitive guy at minimum golf. Lol!

Great update as always

Thanks Rachel........it was the best nap ever.......we really needed it......the golf guy was hilarious......he was actually telling one buddy how to hold the club!!! He was definitely a wally..........

Glad you're still enjoying reading.......:wave2:

FRIDAY 24TH SEPT.........

It really is good to wake up from a fantastic nights sleep, and actually feel refreshed.......we had been sleeping so well, thanks to long days, comfy beds and not having any noise from neighbouring rooms. It looked another beautiful day outside again today......although we were early we knew Kyle would have Skype switched on, so as soon as we showered we connected on that. It really helped being able to talk to him every day......today he showed us the weather outside our home......looked so miserable, grey and cold and all the trees were losing their lustre. I preferred our view today. Chatted for about 30 minutes then said goodbye and headed to the lounge for breakfast. It was very busy today.......busiest we saw it our whole trip for breakfast I think. Had our usual mix of croissants, cinnamon bun, toast and fruit......and coffee of course.

We headed back to our room to put sun cream on and get ready.......someone came out from the room beside ours as we were going in our door......they looked surprised and said they thought it was empty as they hadn`t heard a peep!! We laughed and said we had thought the same.......just goes to show some people can still be considerate with noise and not bang doors. We just started putting cream on when housekeeping appeared......told her we`d be 5 minutes then gone. It was one thing we did appreciate, always coming back even as early as lunchtime and room was always done. We never leave the place really untidy but still, nice to have everything all sorted and fresh towels every day. She left us loads of products and coffee and creams too, so never had to chase anyone for them.

So today we got the boat......it was another blisteringly hot day, later it would reach 98 degrees.....for now it just felt like it!! Back pain seemed to have dissipated but I was a bit nervous of going back on the bigger rides today, like RRR. Would see how I would feel when I got there. Queue to get in wasn't too bad this morning, but it was 8.45 so I imagine most folk would have gone in by now. Noticed immediately again the queue for DM was fairly long........I think it was around 45 minutes it would be over 100 minutes later. But for now we walked straight on much to the annoyance of someone in the regular queue. Didn`t bother us at all. But why make a comment at all........we enjoyed the ride as always, it is fun and back didn't seem to be too bothered today, but thought I may give RRR a miss. We went over to Shrek.....we hadn`t gone on this yet so as there wasn't much of a queue we did it. Of course I forgot how long you can stand, wasn`t too bad but standing too long seemed to irritate the back.....but it was fine....I would pop some pain pills when we got off this one. Another ride that`s fun and again despite being full there`s always the ones that sit in the middle of the row despite being told to go to the end of the row........lol.......love the announcements they make to these people sometime......bet they would rather be saying something else!!!

Shrek and Donkey weren't out for pictures when we came out so we went round to buy some water, take some pain relief and then went into the newest Christmas shop in Studios. It`s small but cute

i-N8qjQgn-X2.jpg

i-gd3Q594-X2.jpg

On the way down from the Christmas shop they have decorated the mock doorways for Halloween.......they look really good, if a little odd in all the sunshine and heat......

i-8d8fZmf-X2.jpg

i-kJGgS6Z-X2.jpg

i-67b68rQ-X2.jpg

One of the things we love about the Studios is how they have evolved this park into something that was rather lacklustre into quite a vibrant place that has assorted entertainers around the parks in different areas........short and sweet but entertaining. This one was a sing off between the actors, and it was funny. People watching are involved....so if you don`t want to be....stand well back......we stood for a while watching this group.....they were very good and quite funny too.....

i-9DSPzCG-X2.jpg

Further round we decided to do The mummy after all........the front row is not bumpy at all, although you still get some good air time it`s just not rough in any way. This is such a nice area, I love it and think over the years we have photographed every single inch of it at some point.

i-ZDBGt5j-X2.jpg

Since the stilt guy was out we thought we`d get a picture........this is the Stilt man we have had our picture taken with on every visit we have had to Universal.......one person was getting photographed and one family were waiting......when it was our turn this guy just pushed in front of us to get him and his three kids a picture.......it was a bit of a wth moment as you could see there was a queue, well 5 of us but still.......I thought oh it doesn`t matter I was too hot to make a point......but the stilt guy had other ideas.....lol......he bent down and rather eerily to the guy pointed to us that were waiting and shook his finger at him.....it was funny and weird at the same time......the guy said oh sorry I never noticed you......biggest compliment I ever got!!! Can`t really miss me........but then stilt guy beckoned us over to get pictures.........he was cool.........actually looked like a guy you wouldn`t mess with........we got a couple of pictures and thanked him........jumpy in guy didn`t look pleased at all.......but we got the pictures we wanted......I do believe he may have posed a bit longer with us to make a point.....maybe.

i-nrkRnhv-X2.jpg

We went on to The Mummy which was again excellent, we do love the front row anyway, and really the ride wasn't busy at all. Maybe 15 minutes for regular queue.....immediate walk on for us. I don`t think our whole trip we ever actually queued for this or DM. Went on once and we decided to head around to Transformers....I was going to give this a miss as I felt it was very rough the other day I had gone on it......So Tom went ahead and I took some pics in Delancey Street.......

i-FLNNsMj-X2.jpg

i-5Gv9t6X-X2.jpg

i-C2XnsN8-X2.jpg

Just after I took this picture I was looking down at my camera checking I had right settings, so was not paying attention to my surroundings very much......few seconds later I felt someone beside me.......I turned slowly to my right and practically right beside me just staring at me was the stilt guy........I let out such a scream and jumped about ten feet in the air...........he got me good!!! Worst of it was as I looked at him walking away I saw someone filming it.......lol........Glad I could amuse......the woman asked me if I wanted to see it......she had seen he was going to approach me to scare me and had her phone on film.......it was funny actually.......they were gone when Tom came off the ride unfortunately.......he would have loved to see it........he did laugh when I told him as he knows I`m easy to spook.....even in broad daylight. He was glad I hadn`t gone on TF as he felt it was rougher again today.

As we turned to head round to get some water these guys were out and they were excellent. They are called Beat Builders and part of the entertainment on periodically throughout the day...........these guys really got the smallish crowds dancing along.......really good they are too.

We headed past everything and went into DA for a quick mooch.......didn`t plan to spend long in here today, just wanted to ride Gringotts and get some Knockturn Alley images, even though we just had my little camera today. The bigger one took better dark pictures usually, but it`s annoying to carry it around and as we had millions of these pictures already it wasn`t so important. But take some pictures we did.........

First we went on Gringotts........we walked through regular queue as it was saying 10 minutes, that was ok........and it really was, we were through so quickly and we got on the ride immediately we got to top of stairs.......ended up on the back row today......it was fine and we again enjoyed it immensely. Queue did look busier when we came out though.....think we were lucky actually. So as this was a quick visit today we went into KA....got the usual obligatory pictures

There is a lot to see in the shop........and it is very atmospheric.......and of course fun things like the trunk, wardrobe and of course the claw that makes me jump every time......this time though I was pleased I caught it as it came down........

One of the staff members took our picture together at the wardrobe.......but both our eyes are closed so won`t post that one........There are hundreds of photo ops and trying to just pick out a few is so hard......of course most of them have been seen a million times both in trip reports and online pictures.......but anyone who loves pictures as mementos has to take them, and like us year after year.....never tire of taking them.

Lunch and HHN next........

We came back out into the sunshine and wow was it hot.....we were loving it........there is just something quite special about walking in the heat knowing back home it was cold........we tried to take as much advantage of it as we could. I sometimes thought people must think we were a bit odd as we just seemed to have a permanent smile on our faces.......we were having an amazing trip and enjoying every second.

Can never have enough images of a big purple bus.........I think the woman with the American flag on her tee shirt was posing for me.........lol........

i-S3VTZxn-X2.jpg

i-8mmJ8XS-X2.jpg

We wandered around and by now as it was nearly lunchtime and we were hungry we missed out MIB and Tom didn`t go on The Simpsons........we did do ET as it`s a favourite then headed out the park.......do love seeing the HHN stuff during the day......although we did hear someone complain about it.....really??

i-g2sNQPD-X2.jpg

i-X6vhf5K-X2.jpg

i-mwKBm74-X2.jpg

I think it`s pretty!!!

As we walked out the park we had already said we wouldn`t be stopping for any pictures with characters today as we had loads.........and it was bloomin hot!! But.........as walked towards Terminator we saw these guys........well, couldn`t resist a picture or two.......

i-X8pqSS3-X2.jpg

This guy was really good as Shaggy.......hadn`t seen him before whereas previous years we recognised one guy from years before......I got huge hug from Scooby but she didn`t get the picture of it.......it was nice!!! I do love Scooby........

i-Hk95BgD-X2.jpg

i-CGGkT6x-X2.jpg

Now we really were hungry, hot and thirsty......not a good mix.......so it was time to head for the boat and go to Portofino Bay for Sal`s pizza. I`m not fond of this hotel, despite it being so pretty.....it`s just it always feels so empty like the lights are on but no-one`s home.......but we do like the pizza from here.........so we walked down for the boat and we waited.......RPR boat was there which was typical.......and we waited ages for this one......asked one of the captains and even he said he thought this one had got lost.......eventually he did appear.....and we got on as sat for what seemed like an eternity. I was hungry. Even Tom was hungry today......but it`s a nice little journey on the boats and scenic too.......

There was just no-one around......no-one..........but we walked down towards Sal`s when we noticed something odd....there was brown paper covering the windows and doors of Sal`s........seriously!!! Yep......it was closed for a refurb...........lol......I was almost beside myself with hunger by now......not a nice mix for me........but what could we do......waited for the next boat and went back to Citywalk.

Finally......lunch.......

By the time we got off the boat I was shaking I was so hungry......I would have eaten anything at this point......but, as we hadn`t eaten in Margaritaville yet, we decided to go there. We had been a couple of times for drinks but not food this year. We used to eat here a few times a visit, but they dropped some of their menu couple of years back when Universal took it over and feels a bit limited now, but food is usually good and even during the day has a good atmosphere.

We were seated immediately in front of the stage which is our favourite area to sit........we like it in here and we order strawberry lemonades for each of us........far too hot for cocktails today.......Tom knows he is going to have the Beach Club Sandwich, and I choose the chicken bites with jerk marinade and I asked if I could have just a side salad I felt like something fresh and cool too........we felt like we were melting today.......this was where we were told it was 98 outside......no wonder we were hot...........we got our drinks immediately and they were demolished within seconds, Stephanie I think had pre-empted this and had another 2 before we could ask.......she was good!!!! Told us food wouldn`t be long, but as always although I was hungry we were in no rush......the drink had helped abate the hunger now..........food arrived and it looked so good and Tom`s sandwich was huge.......really huge.........mine looked quite inadequate beside it.........

My goodness this was so good..........I was so glad we had come in here......chicken was lovely and not hard like last ones I had at Yardhouse.......and Tom`s sandwich.......well, he managed to eat half and a little bit more..... didn`t touch the mound of fries underneath. It was lovely and Stephanie did ask if we wanted dessert.......this was becoming a theme....we never seemed to have any room for it.........so maybe a good thing. It was surprisingly busy for lunchtime and everyone`s food looked so lovely too.......

We paid Stephanie and thanked her and walked back to hotel......slowly. We were hot....we had plans to go to HHN so we didn`t plan to do much this afternoon......I had some more laundry to do so we thought we would go spend the afternoon by the pool again.......so up to room and we quickly jumped in the shower as we felt greasy.........then down to pool. I went first to laundry room as put the load in and walked back to pool......I`m a trusting soul, and touch wood have never had anyone touch laundry......

We got loungers and laid back and enjoyed the respite from the blazing sun.......we had no room even for drinks from the bula bar, but we did take some water. We did have a couple of parasols cover us again, so we knew we wouldn`t get burned, and wow was the sun hot today.......it was lovely though. And staff were round regularly with sun cream and checking if you needed some which is a nice touch.

We must have spent a couple of hours at the pool today......so relaxing and although it was fairly quiet there was a fun atmosphere.......although I did not partake in the hula hoop contest. Eh.....no. Wasn`t going to happen.......

We got our laundry washed and dried and later headed back up to room where we got showered again ready for tonight. Smokey Bones then HHN.........was starting to get dull though......

jumpy in guy didn`t look pleased at all.......but we got the pictures we wanted

I'm so glad the character stuck up for you! I hate people that jump, even when they say they "didn't notice a queue" well thats usually because they didn't bother looking for one in the 1st place.

immediate walk on for us. I don`t think our whole trip we ever actually queued for this or DM

We had the same on our days too. The queues were great, except minion mayhem and rip ride rock it were the only queues really.

.I let out such a scream and jumped about ten feet in the air...........he got me good!!!

Haha! this story made me laugh! And it wasn't even HHN :rotfl:

I'm still loving the updates and the stories :thumbsup2
