Another 18 nights RPR, just the two of us & HHN (2015 Trip)

I am really enjoying your report! Thank you for taking the time to write it all out.

I am interested in hearing more about the food in the Club Level. I understand that breakfast is a nice continental offering, but you mentioned evening food options. Is it the typical club-level appetizers, or do they offer actually "food" that you could make a light meal out of, like something you might find at a Residence Inn? I would have thought only appetizers until your last comment. Just curious!

You and your husband look like you had a GREAT time!

Thank you Cara......glad you are enjoying it........

Between 4.30 and 6.30 they have what is called appetisers, but some people do use it for their meal for the evening.

There is always either chips and dips, or prawn crackers with a dip. Theme there is usually a salad in a huge bowl, they vary and one of their nicest ones is a chicken one that is really lovely. There is always a dressing to go with it too. Some nights there was a fruit plate, with different melons, strawberries, pineapple, grapes and blueberries.

There is a different hot option every evening. There was a chicken or pork with noodles a couple of nights, a chilli and rice, pasta with chicken and veg......it did look nice, and another vegetarian option in the weeks rota.

Then there's crudités and a blue cheese dressing or a garlicky one.......then a selection of cheeses with some fruit and a selection of crackers.

We don't use the lounge for evening meal as we prefer to eat out around Orlando or Citywalk, but we have been known to have some salad or cheese and biscuits while we sit, as they are really nice.

Yes we really did have a fabulous time.......again, glad to have you along for the ride.........:wave2:

Great update Carole...you will be glad to hear that I finally conquered my fear of RRR and quite enjoyed the ride...don't know what I was afraid of cause it was awesome. I also rode to I will survive.

Sorry about Bubba Gumps...we enjoyed our meal there...bacon wrapped jalapeno stuffed shrimp...yum.

Yay........oh I'm glad.....it is a good ride, if you get it smooth.......I actually love the climb....once I've done it once again........

Yes, BG is somewhere we'll never venture back to.....but plenty of people like it......glad your meal was good though.........

Glad you're still enjoying it Vicki........:flower:

WEDNESDAY 23RD SEPT

We again slept so well, those beds and pillows are so comfortable.......but as usual I was awake around 6.30am......Tom did ggrumble this morning about go back to sleep......lol......no chance....once I`m a wake, I`m awake.....back to this old don`t want to waste a minute of our time here.......jumped in the shower and then after drying my hair got on Skype to Kyle......it was lunchtime for him so he was eating a sandwich today with big slice of chocolate cake waiting to be eaten.......he was being very good to himself while we were away......don`t blame him. Chatted for a while about this and that then went for breakfast........as usual I was hungry.......

There was a few familiar faces again today, seemed to be a few people staying longer term.......we chat briefly, then Thomas asks where we ate last night....told him about BG.....he said oh he would have told us not to go.....it`s awful......wish we had seen him yesterday.......told him where we were going tonight and he thoroughly approved. So we had our usual breakfast, coffee and looked out the window for a while, looked another glorious day........today was IOA again for us..........

We had a pleasant walk again today, it felt hotter again today, even hotter than yesterday......this was just bliss for us......but we still took our time and saw several squirrels along the way as well as the usual scurrying geckos.......always worry about treading on one, but I think they move much faster than I do!!! Do the usual bag check and we have an unusually not so friendly security officer today......they usually have a little banter or chat, but this guy was the opposite. But, we wished him a good day anyway and headed off.

One thing we very rarely do now is stop to get pictures on the way in with the lighthouse......we have so many of them, and we have no real interest in photopass so we pass by the photographers who offer our picture to be taken. There is a little queue again today and we walk to the end where a guy is gesturing people to go to him.....some people just seem to see the queue at the beginning and join it......so we went through in no time and wandered through the shop looking to eye up anything we`ll be purchasing over the trip.....the usual, couple of fridge magnets, pens, notepads and all sorts of other trinkets. Tom collects a globe keyring every year and a baseball of varying designs.....buys just one a year.......so we see roughly what we`ll get but will do it another time.......we head back out to the sun now......

This area is just so beautiful and so many just walk through it without looking.......but we, most days stop and look and listen to the windows up above some of the buildings, if you listen it`s quite fun what you can hear.........

i-G3kcKvK-X2.jpg

i-QTb5Rr7-X2.jpg

We immediately go to Dr Doom........still weird not hearing the Hulk whoosh as you pass, but there are plenty of other things to keep us busy. Doesn`t look overly busy again today, and we thought that the whole trip....parks just weren`t as busy as we thought they might be...........We ride Doom about 6 times then do Spiderman twice.......we get some water as it is baking today, and this is one of the few days we felt it very humid....which kinda drains you a little easier than normal. So we go the stall opposite Spiderman where that same lady has sold us water for years.........she always remembers us every time. Nice lady.

We feel today we won`t spend a lot of time in the parks as it`s so hot for us but meantime we head round to Toon Lagoon finding some mister fans on the way.......

i-sZ5sbDT-X2.jpg

i-WMs22Bs-X2.jpg

We really were felling the humidity today......both of us just said we would head out after doing JP.....hope we would get wet today......we didn`t do Dudley or Bluto as you just get so drenched on those rides....not fun. So we headed round to JP and was surprised to see a very small queue again.......we got back row to ourselves and did not get one drop of water on us today.......went round again and sat on second row......we got sprinkled this time......the four behind us got drenched......lol........luck of the weight distribution on that ride.....different every time. I`ve seen people say oh you don`t get very wet on that ride......well, yes you can.

We do our usual walk to Potter, only stopping again to buy more water.......2 bottles and we demolish them....we are making sure we don`t get dehydrated as it can creep up on you.......but into Hogsmeade and we go on FJ......well, I decide I`m going to miss it out today and while Tom goes and does single rider I go and sit in the shade in the owlry.......I like it here, people usually chat and it`s nice to meet folks from all over.....although today I sit down beside angry family......I don`t know what language they are speaking, probably Portuguese from some words I recognise.....but wow are they not happy with one another........I move and sit beside an older gentleman from Canada. He is nice and we chat about allsorts till Tom appears and smiles at my ability to always find someone to talk to.

We ponder getting some butterbeer, but didn`t bother as we don`t really like it very much......I like the butterscotch flavour of the foam......then that`s it really........I do like the pumpkin fizz but we just thought we`d get one another day. So off to Duelling Dragons which we did a couple of times again. This was why I had missed out FJ this morning, sometimes my head feels a bit woozy so if I had gone on FJ I might have had to miss DD, and I prefer them to FJ. They are fun!!

They have changed the walkways slightly to accommodate CB peeps and it looks prettier actually......didn`t realise it had quite such an incline (not really, we were hot) and we took a peep over the new way over the bridge

So now we have had our curiosity satisfied we walk back into the lovely cool of the front lobby.....this is always a joy when it`s ultra hot outside.....it hits you like a blast of ice and so welcome on days like today. We speak a few minutes with Emily on the front desk and head to our room where we freshen up and head back out. We are going to Premium Outlets at the top of IDrive........just to look for a few things and Tom wants a Five Guys Burger. He has never had one........so off we set to the Outlet mall.

This mall is a nightmare to park in at the best of times, but today despite being midweek it`s heaving and people are vehemently defending any parking space they might find. We drive up and down a few rows and eventually someone gestures to us they are leaving.....excellent we have a decent space near the entrance.

We head straight for the food court where the biggest queue in the place is for Five Guys.......lol.....so we both order a burger and share cajun style fries........burgers were ok......wouldn`t write home about them but tasty enough....they don`t look brilliant......lol.......

i-qJHmfGx-X2.jpg

I`m glad we went, but wouldn`t rush back. So now we really just wandered around and looked in a few shops including Coach....didn`t see anything I really wanted though. So as it was so hot we decided we would go back and spend some time around the pool again.......I think this was the most time we ever spent at the pool during the day.

It was so nice, we left camera in the room and just relaxed again for a few hours......had a couple of cokes from Bula Bar and just enjoyed the heat. The pool was not very busy but there was a nice atmosphere around it and staff were round asking if you needed suncream or waters.....there was an activity going on but we just sat back and watched. Most energetic thing we did was lift our drink.

Nice way to spend an afternoon.

Sounds like a lovely day Carole...thanks for posting all the pics of the scenery, it takes me back to my happy place :cloud9:

FRIDAY 18TH SEPT

Before that though we headed up to Club Lounge. We like the 6th floor in T3, it takes seconds to get up there. As we walked in one of our favourite guys from last few years was sat.....Thomas.......he immediately got up and hugged us and welcomed us back. We chatted and then sat down as they were just about to set stuff out..........we caught up some more once he was set up. Such a lovely guy and we really get on well with him. The staff in here were mostly new, but so nice. I saw one girl and almost dropped my drink......she was the image of my niece Joanne.....same facial expression as well......only Joanne is blonde and Mara is dark haired.....uncanny though. So we had a few glasses of wine and met Anthony, another new face and we came to know well and adore him too. Very nice guy.

We felt so comfortable in there, wasn`t too busy either.

I love reading your trip reports, especially because we are staying club level at RPR this February!! Your details are awesome, and you've answered so many of my questions, saving me from having to ask on the hotel thread!! :) Love all the details of your entire trip and all the pictures!! Just awesome!!

You're welcome........it's a pleasure......:wave2:

I just wanted to say how much I love reading your trip reports too! I've read all of them and am eagerly following along with this one! We are taking my girls, 12 and 14, to the Universal Parks for their first time in March! They have only been to Disney, but I think it's time we ventured to the other parks!

I went a few years ago with just DH and loved it! When DH and I went we stayed off site and hated not having express pass!! So this time we are staying RPR! Thanks for posting photos of the resort! Love all your photos! I can't wait to read the rest of your trip. It makes my wait a little easier!

Another loverly TR! I am drooling over the food porn:D, the lobster tails look to die for!!!

You both look so fit & happy, ps nice purple sweater on page one.

Thanks for the info re Crayola, looks to be a great potential rainy day activity for GD.

Thank you so much!!! Wow....so glad to hear that........Oh your girls will burst with delight at Universal.......I`ll bet my socks it blows Disney out of the water for them at that age!! You have to come and tell us how it was for them.......

Yes cannot imagine not having EP.....even if it`s just a small queue....we use it, I hate queuing.......lol......

RPR is just the best!!! I know you`ll love it.........and I`m so glad you are reading along and enjoying it......Thank you for the lovely comments.........:flower3:

lol....had to go look which purple top.....I have so many purple things....:D

Oh the food was amazing there, it really was a perfect evening.......definitely going back once or thrice next year.......no probs with the Crayola thing........it does look fun for little ones if weather is not great one day......it was certainly colourful in the gift shop!!

More food porn coming up........::yes::

So after we had exhausted ourselves at the pool.....lol.......we went up to room and got showered and changed and went up to lounge to sit for a while. Again it was fairly quiet but as food was now being served it was a bit busier tonight......as we weren't eating we sat on the big sofa in front of the tv and settled as Anthony brought us each a glass of wine after checking one of us was not driving......we weren`t, we were taking a car from the hotel tonight again. This was where we had our first of two strange conversations with someone in a few days......

One lady started chatting and asking how long we were staying.......when we told her she proclaimed she could never stay here that long as she would be bored. Ok, that`s fine, it wasn`t her thing.....we asked her what she had been doing.....nothing was her reply. Nothing?? Yes, nothing......they had no car, weren`t doing any parks, shuddered in horror at HHN and generally despised Universal......I asked before I even thought about it......why on earth did you book it here then.......answer......they got a good deal on internet??? So they were bored, had no place to go until a few days away when they went back to their spiritual home (her words) Disney. At this point I just thought this was ridiculous and went back to my wine........lol.......I thought for a minute it was candid camera!!! I wouldn`t care how good a deal something was if I didn't like the place!! Nice enough woman though. She was also amazed we didn`t go to Disney......or SeaWorld.......lol.......

So after we had a few drinks we went downstairs and had the bellman call us a car over.........We were going to Oceanaire Seafood at Pointe Orlando, another place that had been recommended to us by a friend from the hotel. We were looking forward to this one too......so we get in the car and the driver asks us if Oceanaire is in Dr Phillips area? Not a very confident start.......but he got us there and we arrived a little early for our reservation......Tom being Tom and knowing my aversion to the cold cheekily asked if I wanted to have a drink in the Ice Bar!!!!!

i-jfrR67B-X2.jpg

i-FzC2THm-X2.jpg

Pointe Orlando is a really nice area and has a few lovely places to eat, it had been a good few years since we had been here, but were looking forward to it. But.........The Ice Bar is one place you would not find me going into.........So we walked into the restaurant and were immediately greeted by three friendly faces........we told them our name and we were taken to our table, which was a nice one again.......restaurant is very nice, again nice romantic lighting and good ambiance about it.

Our water waiter tops us up and says our waiter will with us soon, and Noah appears behind him.......we tell him we are going to go with the Magical Dining Month menu.......every September some of the nicer restaurants offer a special......3 courses for $33 each......we usually don`t bother with this as we prefer to choose off a full menu, but we had been told we had to get this one. So we did.......while we pored over the menu Noah brought us bread, which was delicious and varying pre appetisers

i-3VLvpt2-X2.jpg

They were surprisingly nice! So as we tried not to fill up on these we made our selection and ordered two glasses of different wine each and a cocktail..........mine looks a little distilled there, but it was very nice......

i-ntdc6X8-X2.jpg

i-ZF4mckq-X2.jpg

We both chose to have Asian Pear Salad to start followed by Surf and Turf........this came with a side of mashed potato........they did ask if we wanted any other sides but the size of the potato was huge......we wouldn`t need any more than that.

The salad was beautiful.......so fresh and I`m not the biggest fan of the feta cheese that was over the top of the salad, but with the agave dressing and the pear it was delicious......both of us really enjoyed it

i-bTP6QF3-X2.jpg

i-6NJsRFj-X2.jpg

Our Surf and Turf arrived shortly after, again there was a good gap between courses and we felt very relaxed in this restaurant. Staff were lovely all evening.......our steaks were perfectly cooked as was the lobster, but the pictures don`t do them justice as they were bigger than they looked in the pictures..........

Damn......posted before I meant to........This restaurant was just so relaxing......

i-BH6vT7C-X2.jpg

i-BW5Hd6Q-X2.jpg

So our mains arrived and they looked and smelled gorgeous.........

i-KR55GFX-X2.jpg

They do look kinda small......lol.........but they were a real treat and tasty. And the mash was lovely too......cream on top........

i-6C7Mvqd-X2.jpg

The manager came over at this point to check everything was ok, which it was.......so we munched on and cleared the plate. We were so full. As we sat back we asked Noah to give us 10 minutes before asking us which dessert we wanted....which of course he did.......took a couple of pics of the restaurant while we waited.......

i-8hnXdmm-X2.jpg

i-GD3bkXB-X2.jpg

We took these without a flash as we didn`t want to blind people eating around us. Nice place, and another we wanted to come back to this trip, it was so good. We try to have a rule we don`t eat in many places twice......but we would break that rule for a few places.

Dessert was Key Lime Pie........I adore Key Lime Pie and so does Tom.......so easy option, only it`s far too sweet for me......so I decided not to have one......until Noah offered to box mine up for us to take away......this is something we never do in Orlando...or anywhere really.....but I agreed it was a good idea especially as we had a fridge in the room. Even better an idea once I tasted a little bit of Tom`s when it arrived........

i-LLzcPNV-X2.jpg

This had to be the nicest Key Lime Pie we ever tasted!!! Poor Tom......I said I would try a tiny bit.....but oh my it was lush!!!! But I didn't want to be bad, so I let him finish it in peace......lol........

We didn`t want coffees or anything so we just paid the check and on the way out made another reservation for another evening......the restaurant had called our guy for us, so the car was waiting just outside for us....

Not the greatest shot of the eye.....but it was purple.....

i-SqS8xvd-X2.jpg

so straight back to the hotel for us, can`t remember the time maybe 9.30ish.........it was early and we thought briefly about heading into Citywalk either for some minigolf or just a drink in Margaritaville..........but no......high life people that we are we went to Orchids Lounge.........

Tom chose a prosecco and I had a passion fruit cosmo......just because I hadn`t tried that one......well, there had to be one I hadn`t tried yet............it was lovely and Tom like the prosecco too.........

i-PXnQS88-X2.jpg

i-N3Wh5FR-X2.jpg

Those nibbly things they give you are so addictive!!! Nice and spicy but a bit sweet too........even if you're not hungry you are just drawn to them!! And we were full up. We sat for over an hour or so and were chatting about our days so far, when it hit me again how much I was missing Kyle. Skype was brilliant, but we really missed his company, missed him complaining about how long we were sitting in Club Lounge for......lol........it was just different. We were enjoying it being just the two of us at times, everyone had told us it was new chapter and embrace it......and we did, we had a blast but we did miss him being there.

So around 11pm we headed up to bed and after a lovely evening we were out for the count again. Never heard a sound all night.

Love your reviews of the offsite restaurants!! When we stayed near Sea World in 2014, we ate up and down I-Drive, it was awesome!! We went to Maggiano's Little Italy with 13 in our party (which is always risky) but it was hands down the best meal of the trip, for all of us!! I wasn't planning going offsite this winter for meals, but now I'm reconsidering!:scratchin

THURSDAY 24TH SEPT..........

Now today we couldn`t believe we had already been here a week!! It didn`t feel it was flying past at all.......but it actually was. Today I got up and felt the effect of the bash I took on RRR few days ago........back was hurting!! I never have any back issues so this was unusal for me.......told Tom as soon as I woke up I felt it sore.......he must have thought oh no......poor soul with me there`s always something.....usually about a week before our trip we have a minor panic varying from vertigo, ear pain or shingles one year!! We had made it this year with no drama`s.......I suppose this was pay off. I knew there was no way I could make the rides today, I could barely walk at this point. But, I got in the shower, got ready and dressed and then Kyle skyped us.........I was so desperate to talk to him this morning. He was full of the joys of the day which was nice to see..........we chatted for ages and could have spent much longer but we were heading off for breakfast and he has plans. So we reluctantly say goodbye and will chat again tomorrow.........we had bought phone cards to call him with, but with Skype we never needed to as it was much better than any phone call could be.

i-HBwN3d7-X2.jpg

I had taken some pain relief so it wasn`t as bad, but I was walking very carefully......this sucked!! But we made it to the lounge and I sat down while Tom got me breakfast this morning.......he`s very thoughtful and got me exactly what I would have chosen. We took our time this morning and it was still fairly early........we chatted as usual and then decided I would take my time to get out of the chair and walk.

The hallways are now a little different and feelings are usually mixed from folks with their opinions on them.......

i-kgLMRDw-X2.jpg

i-JqPGNgX-X2.jpg

We made it and on the way out took a couple of pictures of the entrance to the hotel........it was quite dull today, but oh so warm......

i-FC3ccKQ-X2.jpg

i-FnbXbFF-X2.jpg

i-bKbdsJX-X2.jpg

We had decided to mooch around the malls and outlet centres today.....we thought it might make for an easier day......first stop though was WalMart for some kind of gel I could rub on the pain in my back......so first to Walmart and I got a few things while I was in.....not sure what it was but it was over $100.......lol.......after I had put the gel on it did ease my back a bit. So we went to LBV outlet centre where we picked up some nice little things including a watch each. Then wandered to DTD for a mooch as we wanted to do those car/boat things..........no way......it was a mess. Traffic was so backed up and it just looked like we would be hours getting anywhere......and the size of that garage!! It`s huge.

So we about turned and headed back to Universal area and began to think about where we would eat lunch. We never plan many things, but do have an idea of places we want to go and places we have to go back to and Teak Neighborhood Grill is one we always return to. We have been eating here for years and it never disappoints. So we drop the stuff off at the hotel, I just wait in the car while Tom goes up to the room....he`s back before we know it and checks how my back is......it`s actually ok right now. So we drive the few minutes to Teak. We did pay attention today to just how close Sapphire Falls is to the road when you pass it.....it is going to be another 1000 room hotel as part of the Universal Orlando brand......this one looks beautiful though, well will be when it`s finished

i-7BgtWxT-X2.jpg

A few minutes later we are turning into Teak. It really is a kind of neighbourhood place, always plenty of locals in it and quite lively at night as we had discovered a few years ago........there was live music and it was very loud! But good........so we get ourselves seated and immediately Brandi is over asking us what we would like to drink......just two cokes today I think........she asks if we want a few minutes to decide and then says don`t I know you......you`ve been here before.......she had served us last year as we remembered her too.......told her we knew what we wanted and no we didn`t want to see the secret menu that`s not so secret anymore........I remember when it really was a secret lol......Tom was having the Wholey Hell burger with garlic fries no tortilla chips.......she again, asked him if he was sure as it was really hot.......he said absolutely.........I was having the glazed Donut burger.......no cheese and add jalapenos......with sweet potato tots........she laughed and said we were very precise in our order. Now last year I had the donut burger when we were there with Todd, and for some reason I took everyone`s meal picture...but the donut burger hadn`t taken for some reason......so I was going to snap the butt out of this burger....just in case.........

Place wasn`t too busy, table behind us had the owner having a business meeting and a few people around the bar area eating.......I wandered to the bathroom and wondered how I had never seen this before........

i-5RN6X8p-X2.jpg

They do have a challenge.......it is huge!!! We saw someone try to do it one night few years ago......never even got halfway through it.......but brave attempt......Sat back down just as our meals appeared.........

i-ff7KBxJ-X2.jpg

i-rnnshwk-X2.jpg

i-tfLCWQC-X2.jpg

WOW!!!!

That wasn`t me saying that........it was the guy at the table behind us when he saw my burger.........I laughed and said he should try one they were delicious..........the owner smiled and said he was glad I enjoyed it.........this guy though kept looking at it then asked if he could take a picture of it on his iphone........I said of course he could but be quick or it would be gone.......he said his wife would never believe him......so he snapped a quick pic and told us to enjoy.......oh we absolutely would.

Tom`s was so hot and spicy.....she hadn`t lied.......it had Fresh cut jalapenos, hot sauce, ghost pepper cheese, Teaks secret spicy sauce, bib lettuce on a pretzel bun.......he even had a tear running down his face when he was half way through....unusual for him......he was enjoying it so much........mine was lush.....so lush!!! The meat is so good and mix it with the heat of the jalapenos and the sweetness of the donuts......it was perfect........one of our nicest burgers ever.........the tots and fries were good too.......So we can safely say we enjoyed this meal a lot. It is such a friendly place and they have a lot of tourists now unlike a few years ago. The guy who told us about it back then lived in the apartments opposite so it was his local haunt.

We paid and left thinking we would drive to Winter Gardens, it wasn`t far.....half way along the road I said I was all of a sudden incredibly tired......really tired so much my eyes were already closing. Not like me at all, so we turned back and headed back to hotel and decided we go for a snooze as we were eating out at Ocean Prime again tonight and wanted to be awake for that.

We met a friend on the way in to hotel and chatted to him for a bit which is always lovely to see him, I now felt quite awake it was strange.....but after we left our friend we got to room and I fell asleep in seconds......Tom had pulled the drapes so the room was very dark and we both slept for over 2 hours!! Couldn`t quite believe we had done that.

Coming up.......Ocean Prime again.

Oh there is so much choice out there isn`t there........only trouble is trying to narrow it down to the ones we really have to eat at!!!

Not enough nights for them all.........but we try :rolleyes1

OMG those burgers from Teak look AH-Mazing!!! Yum
agree! pretzel bun looked tasty, so many are an insult to the name lol.

Carole - We rarely leave U resorts to eat, Disney is another story. While we have several places there we do enjoy, typically go offsite in the surrounding area to eat majority of times. Sorry to hear ur back was acting up this trip, all better now?

Your encounter with the woman on the Disney 'spiritual' journey has to be in the top ten of weird Orlando tales! USO for us = action & excitement, WDW is more familiar territory and laid back. I have an emotional connection via the whole Disney geek thing lol. When just he & me, there is no pressure to commando since we have been fortunate to be able to visit often over the years. When family is in tow, I brace myself for a marathon. I realize for most it isn't so - more the reverse when staying onsite @ USO with FOTL and the ability to have a happy medium of relaxing and enjoying the parks via the FOTL perk. Have to wonder why she didn't just hotwire/priceline something offsite @ WDW for a few days in lieu of an onsite Loews package. Oh well, no pleasing some people, especially if they aren't willing to fully commit to a new experience.

It may be a rainy eve but I see a rainbow in the bottom left corner, a sure sign of good luck!
