October 2023 W.I.S.H. Thread - Happy Healthy Halloween

I am thankful for the time I got to spend with my sister and daughter last night. We went to the Taylor Swift concert/movie. It was fun but not $20 worth of fun but I went for Elizabeth. My sister is always my concert buddy but we haven't gone with each other in a long time. I really haven't been to many because of being busy and money. I think we might start going again and Elizabeth will come with us.

DH is out of town with a group of guys on a golf trip. He gets back Sunday afternoon / early evening.

I do miss him when he's gone, but honestly, it's kind of a nice change of pace to shake things up a little. DS and I have been going places we usually don't go - did a Costco run Wednesday night and picked up dinner out last night. Saturday, I'm going to a Witches on the Water event with my oldest DD, so that should be fun. Not that DH wouldn't let me do it or anything, but I probably wouldn't if he was home because we'd make plans of some sort.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

This morning I read a blog post by a creative I follow, and as a way to ground ourselves in these tumultuous times, she asked:

"Do you know what time the sunrises?"

Paying attention to the sunrise seems like such a simple and effective way to center ourselves as we enter the new day. Around here sunrise is currently 7:38am and the past few days the sky has been glowing bright pink when it comes up.

Weekend plans: Saturday I'll go downtown to cheer the paddling water witches and possibly get some lunch, and then drive somewhere, not sure where yet. Sunday I have a massage in the morning then in the afternoon I have the first class in the Wheel of the Year series. I'm doing the first one on-line since the in-person classes are Monday evenings and I'll miss the first one, as I'll be in Seattle. I'm staying at a hotel Mon/Tues/Weds nights, because the "commute" is just too long, and it is going to be different experiencing the city as a working tourist.

I haven't seen any of the Nightmare movies, so I'll have to just go with it.

I did watch Practical Magic again last night. It makes me so happy and I'm going in to Saturday with my heart filled with the possibility of the magic all around me... and the knowing that some day my guy will be looking at me like this:

We went to the Contemporary church service this morning. It is not as good as others I have been to over the years, but I have to avoid large crowds while I’m immunosuppressed. As it was, I had to wear a mask and tried to keep my distance…in spite of that people still tried to shake my hand. I usually do a fist bump, but I didn’t even want to get close enough to do that. As long as Covid is still around, I won’t be shaking anyone’s hands or God forbid hugging. I’m surprised that people still try. It puts me in the awkward position of backing up and trying to avoid the contact while trying not to be rude. Ugh.

Anyway, church was nice. I really wanted to stay for the traditional service. The Bell Choir was performing today, and it would have been wonderful to hear them perform, but that service is really crowded.

I should be able to get my Covid vaccine in two more weeks, and the flu shot after that. Then I will feel safer to be in larger crowds.

My massage got canceled because she isn't feeling well, so I started the day with a long leisurely walk on the beach. It was probably even better for me than the massage would have been, and included finding nine lipid shells, which more than doubles my collection. After that I stopped in a place in town and had a super yummy waffle. Next up, I'm working on a pedicure, then will be knitting and watching football followed by my online class, and at some point I'll have to throw a few things into a suitcase for my days in the city/office... all-in-all as near to prefect as a Sunday can be.

Self care Sunday...some ideas to unwind
What are you up to?
From the list - I've had some pumpkin spice coffee and got out for a 'nature walk' (if you count taking the cats out in the yard on their leashes  ).

I've also been working on a puzzle on and off, which I find very relaxing, and am currently acting as a bed to a purring cat.

This was such a fun quiz!!

From the list I took a walk, a nap and lit a candle!!

I took a nap hoping to stay up for the Eagles 🦅 game tonight…starts at 8:20…😬 we will see how I do lol!

We hosted fall family birthday’s Saturday and it was nice. My nephew who continues to be ill, with no answers, was feeling well enough to come which almost made my heart explode! He laid on the couch and in the spare bed in the playroom but it was still a big deal for him to be well enough to ride in a car. He has so many appointments with specialist during the week he is wiped by the weekends so it was really special ❤️

Spent the morning at church with DH, DD my daughter in law, my sister and my niece. It was lovely but packed, at one point it was standing room only. Glad we got there early for seats.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

From the list today I took a walk - not necessarily a nature walk, but it was with my oldest DD, so that was even better ❤️

Today, I went to church this morning and then to my mom's for our usual lunch. We celebrated my youngest niece's 15th birthday today and she liked the gift I bought her so that was good! DD came back for it since it was her cousin's birthday celebration and then came back to our house for the afternoon. It was such a pretty day, we went on a little walk and then sat out on the back deck to just chit-chat. Honestly a perfect day to me!

Good morning everyone - I love that quote! I think positivity is a very powerful thing. DS and I were just talking about it yesterday. I think I posted on here that he's dealing with something he's not proud of. I always listen to our Christian music station and when he was growing up and I drove him everywhere that's all that was on in the car so he's very familiar with it.

I don't think he will necessarily start listening to it when he's driving, but I told him he should think about it. Every person and every topic is uplifting on there and it just helps to put you in a positive frame of mind.

Anyway - my motivation for the week is to keep on track because DH and I leave for a trip on Friday for the following week. I've already made up my mind on a few things to help me do better while we're gone, but I want to finish our time at home and work strong before taking off.

It really is amazing how much mindset plays a factor in health...even a 30 minute comedy show or podcast makes such a difference. Laughter really is the best medicine.
Currently have butter softening on my counter to make some apple crisp cookie bars. Getting my annual blood work done tomorrow (assuming I remember to fast) so that will give me some good insights. After my biometric screening I am inclined to think my weight issue (aside from perimenapause) is not so much what I am eating but how much.
Finished the step challenge yesterday by meeting my step goal for the day. My team had over half a million steps last time I checked...we are no where near the top of the leader board but that is still a decent donation to our organizations.

Motivation this week... being in the big city around real live people for a couple days is both exciting and a bit worrisome. I still haven't fully recovered from the travel back in September, but at least this time I know better what to expect recovery wise and will approach it a little differently.

Buying the car made a big dent in my savings, so I've really been thinking about how to successfully budget, without telling myself to stop spending money because I know that would be an immediate trigger to spend, spend, spend. I've come up with 1) paying closer attention and tracking better and 2) increasing my reserve balance by $1000 a month. Seems both ambitious and doable... now I just need to make it feel like a game so I'll stick with it and stay motivated.

TOPIC TUESDAY
Words of encouragement…
Back when I was on NOOM, I had many coaches (high turnover), but there was one who I won’t forget because she truly encouraged and supported me. I saved this message from her to read when I really needed support.
