Received email about closings at CBR - help!!

Since Disney did not file for construction until Jan 18, 2017, people could not have known until after that that Disney was doing this kind of construction. Maybe they had a permit to fix a pool last sept. But Disney did not file until Jan to do this type of construction work, so how could people who booked know. Disney should give them something, 50% off, or free dining, or move them all to SS, they never book up over there and the studios are about the Sam Edelman price as is CBR. M with you, for those who know and book, that is up to them, but if you don't know and Disney did not know, than yes you should be compensated.

50% off? Free Dining? No. You really wanna push free dining, don't you?

I take it you mean SS as Saratoga Springs? You can't just move people from a mod to an all DVC deluxe resort.

I'll agree that being rude gets you nowhere, fast. As far as being in their shoes? Well, a lot of them probably just let it roll off and they keep going. I know I had to learn that when I worked in collections years back. You deal with the call and move onto the next.

That's hard to do for some people. I've been accused at my office of being too sensitive, because I let too much bother me, but that's just my nature.

There's nothing wrong with it. Compassion and empathy are a part of life. Trust me, I was in student loan collections, we dealt with both federal and private loans. The calls I hated the absolute most, were the ones where you call co-signers to private loans. Dealing with grandparents who did, or in cases didn't, sign for the kids loan(s)... those were tough.

On that same token though, how many times do you think CM's have heard the old "I paid so much to be here..." line. If they all got paid a dollar each time, there'd be plenty of millionaires there, lol.

There is no better time frame. That's just the thing. Disney could totally flip all their policies tomorrow if they wanted to with no notice to anyone, is it fair? No. Is it within their rights to do so? Yes.

No one here is arguing Disney right to do so. It is not acceptable what they have done and you arguing that people should just be content with it an accept is ridiculous. The fact that you think we should expect the most mediocre customer service and be content is why Disney has slide their customer so much, because people come to expect the minimum. If you are ok with mediocre service then fine but don't expect others to be. @CanadianMouseDad please don't accept this mediocre customer service.

You know it isn't unheard of.

Ok, interesting question then... Say they move people, and SSR fills up, but someone who owns DVC wants a reservation. The DVC person should have bumping rights since they own there over someone who paid for a moderate hotel room, correct?

Also, if I were an owner at SSR and this happened, I wouldn't be thrilled with someone who is non-DVC that is not renting points, is staying in a resort that I have partial ownership at.

Cash inventory and DVC inventory are kept separate. CRO can't book rooms in the DVC inventory. Rooms go to CRO from points DVC itself owns, also when members trade out. 60 days or less from check-in, DVC can decide to move rooms to cash (breakage inventory). In the past, they have overbooked the values during free dining and moved people to SSR. Now with Disney Springs open, there are probably less empty SSR rooms.

All I was saying is that Disney has moved people from moderates and even values to SSR. It usually happens at check in when a resort is overbooked. I was not saying that they should fill up SSR with all the unhappy CBR guests.

I just got off the phone with guest services. We ended up moving from CBR to PORS. The CM, although very nice, said they weren't giving any compensation, so we ended up having to pay $112 more. I was really looking forward to staying at CBR. I've actually always wanted to stay at the Poly, but CBR seemed to at least have a nice tropical feel to it. I requested the Alligator Bayou section, as at least that has nice lush plantings, as opposed to the more formal looking Magnolia Bend section. Hopefully we're able to get in that area, otherwise the whole "feel" of what I was looking forward to will be lost. This is our very first time staying on Disney Property. I spent several weeks researching resorts and then tonight had to do all that research in the course of an hour. :worried:
I hope we made the right decision!

Heard the same thing from my TA. Does anyone know if I call in will they talk to me, or does it have to be my TA since I'm booked through them?
I'm curious to hear if anyone who booked with TA or Orbitz gets any results directly with Disney. I know on all other instances Disney will not work with the client in these cases. Wonder if this ends up being different. My guess is it won't be but I've learned to never say never.

That stinks. I kind of expect some sort of maintenance, painting, updating etc. But this sounds very inconvenient. Seems like OPR will be completely closed.

Did letters go out to everyone staying for the next two years? So if you are traveling in the fall or winter would they have received a letter? Or just folks traveling in the next few months?

I just got off the phone with 2 CM's. The first was quick to push me over to the Reservation center. I spoke with a man who was not very caring. He stated he had stayed at WDW resorts before that were under renovation and he had no problems. He did offer to look up prices for us to swap resorts. We are staying for 8 nights so even a minor price adjustment ended up big. $400 to swap to PO Riverside, $700 OKW, $1100 for WL, $1200 AoA family Suite or $1900 AKL. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was told no one was available at this time. I questioned if i wiuld have to call back tomorrow to discuss this with a manager and he said he would like to "handle my concerns" tonight. He said he would look at other options that he may be able to offer us to enhance our vacation. He came back to the line and offered 3 fastpasses. He said he did not have any details of the arrangements for food/beverages/souvenirs but assured me that they would meet our needs and if they didn't we could voice our issues with the front desk at check-in. I voiced that i did not want to wait and have to worry for the next 80 days about what we will encounter upon arrival and that i did not want to anticipate wasting a day of our vacation dealing with the front desk about unmet expectations.
Any advice?

They appear to have instructed reservations to offer NOTHING at this time. They're playing chicken. When they are flooded with complaints and phone calls, they'll probably start offering something, like they did with Wilderness Lodge. It's unacceptable, they know it's unacceptable, but they also know they often get away with the unacceptable so it's a wait and see game IMO.
Those of you who booked, booked with the understanding that you had a food court, a resort gift shop, and a full service restaurant. To suggest in any way that you should suck it up and be happy with it is ludicrous. They offered x, you paid for x, they told you it's actually y. You have two choices.. A)make your displeasure known calmly and politely and repeatedly until it has been worked out to your satisfaction. Or B) deal with it.
I know which I would be doing.

I am surprised they are not offering to help more. I am more surprised that they don't just close the resort for a short time and get the major work done quickly, once the major work is done, then re-open and work on the more minor stuff. What are they doing to OPR to close it all down?

Due to their inaction in the past during major projects like this at other resorts, this should come as no surprise.

Now that WOULD be very surprising.

What are they doing to OPR to close it all down?

Since they will be building a waterfront dining/shopping/entertainment spot, my guess is that OPR will be turned into check-in/check-out location. And the Custom House then being torn down for part of the high rise. But that's just a guess.

They've absolutely done it before.

There's no bumping of anyone. As was explained, the cash reservations they would access are totally separate from points reservations.

Hopefully we're able to get in that area, otherwise the whole "feel" of what I was looking forward to will be lost.

FWIW I found POR to be much more lush and inviting than CBR.

Agreed.

I'm so disappointed for all of you! To lose all dining is just too much.

People compare it to other resort construction especially WL. I don't see it the same at all. We went to WLV last June. Really I did not even know it was under construction. I had no idea the lodge was under construction. I did not hear any noise. I did not hear any construction. I would say I did not see any, but if I did that would be a miracle. Other than the smaller pool being closed, there was no inconvenient to me. I am going there again in May, they closed roaring forks, but opened geyser point. I still have food, actually I will be getting food from a table service for the price of a quick service.

That in no way is the same as CBR, they are closing all food, and giving truck food. They are closing shops and not giving any alternatives. I'm saying free dining, like the dining offered at that time for the pop. One meal at a quick serve a day and one snack, and a drink cup. They are taking away food, give them back food, free still inconvenient, they still have to go somewhere to get it, they still have to go to get there snack, they still have to find drinks with everything closed. When a pool closes they offer you a pool and a bus to get to it in another resort. When a resort has major construction like people say did at WL they offer you a switch somewhere else. So I think they are taken away all food and shops, they need to not give fast passes, they need to give free food, at least for one meal a day to compensate.

They are probably waiting to see how many will switch to a different hotel. All those that switch and pay to do so, they won't have to compensate, so Disney is sitting back and waiting to see how many will move themself, then they will step in and offer something. At least I would hope they would.

I appreciate hearing about everyone's experiences. Looks like I have my work cut out for me tomorrow. I have not received any notification and we have 3 rooms booked with extended family.
