Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! Summer 2017 (replaces ToT)

Would they be getting rid of A Bug's Land to make a Marvel Land? And afterwards, are they going to create Frozen Land while they are at it?
Another thing, TOT is basically on the pathway to A Bug's Land. What about the walk to the TOT which is all of the is California themed? What will they do with that? Take it down after spending that much money on it?
At first when I heard about this; I thought it was a temporary thing to promote the new movie coming out. But I guess not?

I guess I am in the minority as well. Having ridden the WDW version of TOT I always thought the DCA version, well stunk. A budgeted down remake of a great ride turned into a mediocre attraction at best. Now don't get me wrong. I am not a fan fan of one thing marvel, I only like Batman and superman and that DC, but if this mean our tower finally gets random drops, I am all in. I amy have to actually go on it. I will reserve judgment on the makeover until I ride it. I am just happy our sad version of TOT is going away.

Well then, I guess I'm not a comic nerd. I look at the film from a non-comic perspective. You have a really mean raccoon, a tree that says one thing, Bautista desperately trying to act, a green lady who freaks me out a little, and StarLord trying to hold this movie together. While I laughed some, I never thought of it as great. Maybe good. But I'd rather watch any Iron Man, Thor, Cap, or even Hulk movie before GOTG. That's my opinion, I know. But it just rates really really low for me. Especially when compared to one of the greatest TV series of all time. Viva Twilight Zone.

I'm not either, though I research the backstories on the ones I don't know. Just because it rates low for you though doesn't mean every person has that same opinion. You have a high tendency when you are complaining that it's only your thoughts and opinions that matter. For every person out there who doesn't like GoTG and hate this change, there are others out there who are excited for it. Disney is never ever ever ever ever going to please everyone. Every time Disney changes a ride, the forums turn into a civil war (pun only slightly intended) with a group of people who love/are excited for the change and the other half who seem to have mastered the ouija board and can tell that Walt would hate it so they by definition must hate it with very little in between.

Also in reference to your comment about Universal building a whole new land for Harry Potter. They have access to a lot more land then Disney has. Disney pretty much had to buy a hotel to demolish just to build another parking structure with a walkway for people to cross. The sad part of it is, is that Monsters Inc is actually one of my favorite rides at DCA (still mad that I never got to ride that travesty superstar limo once), and when they go to build marvel land where hollywood studios is, that ride will be gone. I can at least ride a superior ToT at Disneyworld.

I'm worried about Monster's Inc. too. It's a really cute little dark ride and we enjoy it. I would have preferred the door coaster go in the back so this could stay. But I know that idea is far gone now. Too bad, if they'd acted on it years ago when it was first rumored we could be riding the thing by now.

I think this is a big slap in the face by the corporate clowns to the Disney parks fan. They took an obscure Marvel comic and made it into the movie that every Disney fan boy had to see because "Disney never makers anything bad and it’s the best thing in the entire world." Gardenias of Whatever they are only did well because people who see everything Disney does through rose closured glasses said it was good and saw it way to many times. I am just waiting for when they announce the sail of DCA to six flags as that is wear an ride as charpoy as this piece of junk belongs. Joe whatever his name is with the earring that is driving his ear lobe to commit suicide should be ashamed to have to promote this. There is a reason why they announced it at comic con it’s the same as when they announced the send Tron movie too. They think they know their audience and they don't not all Marvel fans are theme park goers and not all Disney Parks fans are Marvel fans. Marvel regardless if Disney owns them or not does not belong in the Disney parks.

The worst part for me is that they are replacing a very cool theme for one that goes with what I consider to be the worst superhero movie I have ever seen. I genuinely hated GOTG and I feel like it is a disgrace to the genre of superhero movies. So the big kick in the pants for me was that the theme would be GOTG on top of killing off what is currently a better, more entertaining theme. So sad. I know what I'll be doing on my october trip for the last time. I'll never ride it as GOTG, my hate for the movie runs too deep.

I could have gotten excited about it being rethemed to any other marvel movie since I enjoy comics and the superhero genre-but not that one.

It made a lot of money-ok so does the tobacco industry and i'm not pulling for that to be ride theme either. I still thought it was awful and would like to get those 2 hours of my life back.

When these rumours first started flying around, I was worried. I've never seen GOTG, I'm not interested at all, don't like superheroes in general. I really love the classic Disney characters and attractions, and it seems like the focus is more and more on new franchises (Star Wars, Marvel, Frozen). However, I understand that these franchises are being focused on for a reason - they are hugely popular and will appeal to a lot of people.

It was actually my trip to Shanghai that made me feel better about all these decisions. The Tron ride there was amazing - easily my favourite rollercoaster so far - despite the fact that I am less than disinterested in Tron, have never seen the movies and have no plans to, and don't even know the basic premise of them. However, the theming of the Tron coaster was such that it was a fun and interesting ride anyway, easy to follow the story and feel like you were transported somewhere else - which is what the Disney parks are all about!

I think part of the appeal of TOT is the awesome theming and storyline that is easy to follow, even if you have no idea what the Twilight Zone is (like me). While I personally prefer the old Hollywood theming to GOTG, I think that if they can theme it well enough, and also keep the storyline easy enough for people to follow who don't know anything about GOTG, it may just turn out ok.

To those that are saying that GotG was a terrible movie or you didn't enjoy it or whatever else, keep in mind that you're in the extreme minority. I'm not saying that your opinion doesn't hold value. I am saying that you should at least account for the fact that the vast majority of people liked the movie.

On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 91% fresh rating out of nearly 300 critic reviews, and 92% out of nearly 250,000 user reviews.

I haven't seen the movie, so don't have a comment on that.

But keep in mind that just because someone liked the movie doesn't mean they want ToT rethemed. I think you'd have an entirely different response if it was a completely new ride they were proposing.

I agree. And I'm torn. I'm extremely excited for GotG, but I am sad to see ToT go for the same reasons as everyone else. I was specifically pointing my comment to people saying the movie was bad and "Why would Disney do this for a bad movie?"

I agree that other people will feel differently and do feel differently about GOTG-this was why I said that my feelings for the movie are why this change it so upsetting "for me". Not trying to argue a point, just stating my point of view from someone who is not opposed to the change on the grounds that they don't like the superhero/comic genre theme. I like Marvel and superheroes so that I not why I hate to see this change. And I think that online forums are a great place to express opinions and alternate views and hear such things from a broad range of perspectives which is what make the DIS so fun.

But until Disney Parks higher ups have an ask-Jessica-how-she-feels-policy on changes to the DLR the things that bother me don't really matter. I know.

I read this, and it sounds like the WORST thing I've ever heard.....WHY would they destroy a classic and awesome ride experience that STILL resonates with young people, and ruin it with a semi popular movie that may or may not be memorable??? I am horrified and sad that our upcoming trip with DL first timers might be messed up by this.....:confused3:mad::headache:

I havent seen the movie so I am not hating on this because of the film, I will just really miss the ToT theme. Look, I am not a fan of superhero movies but I am sure that whatever comes out of the changes will be, mostly, great. Change is good.

Plus, it's not just a movie anymore. It's a franchise.

I won't be able to see eye-to-eye with the majority that are upset about Tower of Terror. I never thought it was anything special, so I won't mind seeing them redecorate it. The ride will be the same (actually better if they randomize it). The only thing changing are the decorations.

This thread is pure comedy. It's amazing that so many people can go from being made up of 60% water to 100% salt over a theme park ride. I'm seeing words like outrage and devastated being thrown around. Statements like "Walt wouldn't approve!!" and "it's a classic!!!". I'm glad to see the few level headed people in here, but the rest, you are the problem with the internet. Nostalgia has destroyed your sense of discovery. First, If something is affecting you this much, you need to get some real problems. Second to those who proclaim to know What Walt's intentions were, you need to check yourself. I'll tell you his intentions - to make money. He may have been a great person, but that was the goal, I guarantee. And third, the idea of a classic is one of the biggest jokes in modern society. In order for something to become a classic you have to let it!! You think twilight zone was a classic when it aired??? No, it became one years later! If the people in this forum had their way, in 50 years Disney parks will be museums that are a tribute to outdated technology, outdated thinking, and outdated fun. Imagine if today you had to go to a park that was based on horse and carriage "thrill" rides that took you through civil war battles and cotton picking fields. I can see the annual passes flying off the shelf now.

I have cautious optimism about the ride. But, Disney's track record of retheming attractions (at least the ones I know of in Orlando) have been pretty spotty. With more times than not the retheming leading to a worse attraction. We've had the original Journey into Imagination converted to Journey into Your Imagination (without figment) that was so bad it closed shortly after to reintroduce figment into the ride. Tiki Room rethemed to Tiki Room Under New Management. Mission to the Moon to Mission to Mars to Alien Encounter to Stitches Great Escape. Mission to Mars to Alien Encounter was a major improvement be Stitch in my opinion is a step backward. The jury's still out on Maelstrom to Frozen.

The version of ToT in Tokyo Disneyland looks amazing from the video's I've seen and it doesn't follow the Twilight Zone. Since TZ wasn't an IP in Japan. If Disneyland does it right I think it could be a wonderful attraction. But, by deciding to reuse the ToT it's already decided they want to do it "on the cheap".

Except for Disney had absolutely nothing to do with the movie. All disney does is sign the checks. You don't even see anything about Disney in the credits. As is, your whole rant is so full of typos and rambling I can't even tell what else you're complaining about.

Well good for that majority. While they are visiting marvel land, i'll be at RSR. Lol. :)

Wow. "The only thing changing are the decorations"? Really? It's a subject that goes far beyond "decorations" it has to do with a classic t.v. series and movies. The interior and exterior architecture beautiful and the theming is elegantly designed. Along with these elements the music that is played is perfect for the era that the original story line takes place. All of these elements taken together along with the ride itself, is why to me it is such a wonderful almost ethereal experience. And if the HtH truly is going to be essentially destroyed, to me that is truly a sad and tragic event to occur. I don't care what might be replacing it, I only care that the tower of terror be kept in its pristine state. It can always be refreshed with randomized drops, and perhaps a new ghostly guest or two.
I am still getting over losing Big Thunder and Circle D Ranchs. With this news, i'm about dying inside here. :( :(
And I am not alone....

Isn't Tower of Terror much more of thrill ride counterpart to Haunted Mansion than anything resembling a Twilight Zone tribute? I haven't been able to memorize the ride as well as others, but save for the theme song and Rod Serling's voice, I can't really recall anything that comes close to the feel, satire, or ironic bent of the tv show. (I should say I have absolutely no problem with the current ride and love it to pieces, but people are bringing up the tv show as if it's much more than incidental)

Anyway, this new interpretation sounds like way more of a total sensory experience like Star Tours, Indy, and Hyperspace Mountain which I'm all for.
