News Round Up 2016

Jim Hill musings

New illuminations will include disney characters.

Not sure how I feel about that .. thought I guess it goes with how I don't really like Frozen in Norway. Always viewed EPCOT as a seperate experience from characters, and stuff ... but I guess that ship has sailed

Latest Jim Hill update

Disney Springs Wolfgang puck may be going away or changing as well as some other restuarants already at the springs due to all of the new restaurants coming.

Skipper Canteen is getting a new menu...

Jungle Book show at AK is temporary for summer. Rivers of light may not debut until fall and may be revised a bit... Zootopia was considered before jungle book but ultimately they felt jungle book fits better. This revised show of rivers of light will include jungle book even when the temporary show stops.

Star Wars fireworks show at DHS will have a lot of projections with much less actual fireworks.

New illuminations will include disney characters.

Len Testa said both Wolfgang Puck Cafe and Bongo's got an ultimatum from Disney that either they close the restaurants for a major upgrade in the next few months to their kitchens and buildings or their spots would be given to someone else. He said those type of kitchen makeover's can cost around $10 million and Bongo's is probably gone as they don't have the money and right now Wolfgang Puck said he wants no part of it.

It hasn't been separate from characters for a while, but the Illuminations idea seems odd to me.
Surely the show needs updating, but I don't know that a character infused show is going to win any awards...

I did Wolfgang express for the first time in January and that was really good for a quick service. I've never been interested in bongos. I can't say I'd be interested in the Wolfgang sit down either. I've heard bongos has been on the chopping block for some time now.

we did Bongo's once and it was ok, but compared to some of the new restaurants (already open or coming) I wouldn't mind if it left

I do hope the Wolgang Puck express at least stills stays as I agree with you that it is a quality quick service option

I guess if I am being honest my initial feelings match yours ... trying to take a "wait and see" attitude with everything as you never know, it could be really cool (they've been doing pretty good with night time shows of late)

Eating at WPE is the ONLY way I can get my ds14 to go to Disney Springs on our next trip (since they took the Disney Quest tickets out of the MYW extras). I wonder how soon it will be gone if it does indeed close?

I think express stays. The sit down would be what would leave.

Honestly, I really don't get how a lot of the locations on the West Side (The cigar shop, Bongo's, WGP) have survived this long - let alone how they would with all the new stuff coming in.

So, this isn't a huge surprise to me.

It's not a show so the safaris will run continuouslylike they do during the day. I've seen FPs for as late as 9:45.

Sorry I figured the show times would be included on the site since they had restaurant times and rides that were opened during the evening
