Beach Club Villa Renovation

It is not fair to those of us who own at BCV that OUR rehab is delayed due possibly to expansion at VWL. We pay dues like everyone else, but haven't had a full rehab in a long time. It is especially aggravating that we are now one of the few remaining resorts that cannot sleep 5 in a studio!

Nor is it fair that VWL owners have their resort under construction for 2 years so DVC can have more to sell without having to invest in building a completely new resort. :sad2:

Where did you get this information from? A reno crew is not the same as a "build from scratch crew". All DVC rooms cannot be renovated at the same time. When I checked out the BCV last week I saw that they had completed work in the lobby area. And we all survived for years with studios that slept 4.

I have discovered that cast members are not always the best source of information....likewise for some of the things you see on these boards. Last year when staying at BWV I asked the person when I checked in (my room wasn't ready) is she could see if my room was in the Crest 'o the Wave section (because I specificially asked NOT to be in that section) and she had no idea what I was talking about.

I didn't get a renovated room at BWV in May....no biggie, I'll get one next time. Major sections of BWV have been closed off during many of our stays because of painting and repairs to the outside.

I would imagine that if BCV work is delayed it is quite possible that it is because BWV work is taking longer than anticipated. Probably the same crew will be used.

I don't recall if CM has actually indicated the BCV is pushed back due to VWL although one might have. It's the anecdotal evidence that some of us are using to draw tha conclusion and that is not due to the thought that it's the same building crew though a couple CMs Did say that was one delay due to BC taking longer than expected. However not too far in advance of the start date for VWL being announced was when all the BCV rooms appeared on the availability tool - ie, the delay of the renovation. And several people have been told that BCV was being used to move displaced VWL people to. There is going to be a finite number of rooms that DVC can pull out of inventory at one time and that's what leads to the idea that BCV is delayed b/c of DVC building at VWL.

Regarding renovation schedules, remember that BWV had a renovation in 2009/2010. BCV has never had anything more than soft goods.

True, but BWV is 5 or 6 years older than BCV. And it wasn't a major reno....lots of the original stuff is still there. The flat top electric ranges were recently installed at BWV and are not being replaced and I already see people complaining about that. Or the fridge is not brand new. People are also complaining because some tiles in the kitchen are not being changed.....there is nothing wrong with them to begin with. Personally, I can't see replacing major appliances if they are working okay....I am interested in keeping my dues low. However....I think I may be unhappy with the new showers in the one bedrooms...no more little shelf to put stuff on. But little things like that I can live with....I am just happy to be there (but won't stand for any cr@p either).

We stayed at BCV in May and it really needs a refurb. I was pretty surprised how run down it appeared.

Just out of curiosity, what other DVC's have you stayed in recently to compare? I just had my first stay at Jambo & Kindani and thought they looked great, until I took DD for a tour of the VGF rooms that are so bright and sparkly. Went back to Kidani and noticed every blemish on the counter, every scratch on the furniture, spots on the rug.

By "run down", do you mean worn out carpets and broken furniture? Stains on the furniture? I've seen people posting about the worn out rooms at BWV (which is undergoing refurb right now) and we stayed there in May (non-refurbed room) and it looked just fine. Although my expectations are not high because of the volume of people in and out of those rooms.

Polynesian villas, GFV and SSR. BCV, carpets and furniture were worn and dirty, way beyond what they should be. The hall carpet as well, very dirty, and very worn. I've been a DVC member for over 11 years, staying at DVC resorts several times a year. This was the worst, ever.

Have to agree. BCV our home resort and this is worst I've ever seen it.

Completely agree. We stayed in June and it was surprisingly bad. Worn carpet, couches etc.
It didn't help that we had the bad luck to get a room that smelled like the prior guests had cooked pounds of bacon and it wasn't properly cleaned.

But I guess thay's why it is getting refurbed, right?

Well I'm sure the people that end up moving from VWL to BCV will be absolutely delighted - not!

Not only will they no longer be staying in their first choice of accomodation, but they will find themselves in units that, by many accounts, are in definite need of a refurbishment.

I don't really understand why the delay in the first place tbh. The BCV refurb was originally supposed to start at the end of March (I think), and DVC didn't need to worry about guests wanting to move from VWL until the end of Oct when the work really starts there. Surely they could have got a good numbers of BCV rooms sorted in seven months?

Probably not. DVC has a schedule for refurbishment that is about every 15 years. BCV is only about 13 years old at this point.

What I thought was rather ironic was that I just received a, supposedly current, newsletter from another website which says that the BCV renovation is projected to be FINISHED by December, 2015. One strike against their "most current" info.

We're staying at BCV in about 3 weeks mostly for the F&W convenience. It's a shame that the units seem to be in disrepair. I've been talking up DVC to the extent that my cousin who is coming with me is considering buying a membership. If the unit is not up to par, she won't consider it. There was nothing available except at OKW or SSR and we wanted walking distance. Maybe I could bring her to see the BWV model room.

We stayed in a BCV 2 bedroom 2 weeks ago. Not renovated, but looked really great in my opinion..of course, right before our vacation I was on a work trip to Cincinnati, staying at a crappy Embassy Suites, where I was afraid to walk in my bare feet. So my perspective may be off. :)

Thanks so much for your post! I was afraid the villa might look like a beat up Motel 6 room.

this is making me not want to pick BC for April! We currently have a reservation at WLV and tuesday is our 7 month mark and we were going to ask to move to BC. Now I dont know where to move to!!!!!

Can I ask what room number you were in? We are heading to BCV in about a month and I am so nervous about getting a lousy room.
