January 2024 W.I.S.H. Thread - Happy and Healthy New Year!!!

Woohoo... after at least eight false starts (I stopped counting) I have a combination of yarns, colors and needle size that I like well enough that I know I'll finish my knit-along-hat. I may even take it to knit-night at the local yarn store Thursday evening, and work on it there.

Woohoo... food choices are slightly better so far this week, with a bit less sugar. I really need to up my protein intake tho. Nothing new there.

Not woo hooing today. DH has been sick since Sunday. Negative strep. I told him to get tested for Covid, but he insisted that he didn’t have it…really?! Anyway last night he was coughing without covering his mouth…so inconsiderate regardless of what is wrong with him…so I asked him to cover his mouth as if he was one of my students. He said, “I’m trying.” I said, “Well you’re not very successful.”

GUESS WHO TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID THIS MORNING?!!!!!!!!!
🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Now, you all know that a simple cold will incapacitate me and I will require prednisone and other powerful medications to recover. I have been exposed to Covid by my idiot husband.

Please pray for me.

Tomorrow, Jan 25, the full Moon will be in Leo. I've been hearing a lot about how powerful this full Moon will be so wanted to share. All full Moons signal the end of a cycle, this one will also light up the shadows and illuminate what is hidden. It will call us to do heart based soul work, and to shed what no longer serves us and what dulls our inner spark.

This is an ideal time to do a burning ritual, where you write down habits, fears and limitations and then burn them. Releasing them will help to make room for new beginnings and personal growth.

I'm working on my list of things to release to get ready!

@Summer2018 I am so sorry!! Covid is a strange virus-I got it from sitting in a room with someone who tested positive days later…but didn’t get it after sharing food with someone who tested positive- so hopefully you will not catch it 🙏🏼 I will pray for you.

Whooohooooo mom had another positive 24 hours of progress!!! Ate eggs and a milk shake today (fed herself) using the restroom (huge step), PT was amazing…I am off in the afternoon tomorrow and will be spending it with her. Excited to experience her progress first hand!

Whoooohoooooo my foster gets neutered tomorrow then off to his adoptive family….my sister in law!!! Ahhhhhh so excited for them-their first dog!!! He adores their children and is going to have the best life! We never had a foster adopted by a family member or friend so it’s super exciting to us that we get to dog sit!!

Off to teach Awana this evening! Happy Wednesday!!

I’m thankful that I woke up symptom free!!!

I am happy to go to school today. Honestly I DO NOT want to be home with my baby DH and all of his cooties. 🦠🦠🦠👶🏼🦠🦠🦠My principal thanked me for my commitment, which I find funny. I am just trying to find a place to be that isn’t my house!

Math standardized assessments begin today, so another developmentally inappropriate day in kindergarten…☹️ but still better than being home.

Please pray that DD and I are somehow spared from getting Covid this time around.

Have a great day!

Tuesday one of our business partners asked a question about a project I've been working on and it came to light that they thought they were getting something that was not captured as a requirement. Old-me would have panicked and assumed responsibility for the miss, even tho gathering requirements is not part of my job, but I am thankful that current-me has learned not to do that. I was able to think it thru without an emotional response and be grateful that she brought it up now, when we might be able to add it to scope without impacting the timeline.

I am also thankful for a couple new people I've added to my IG feed, that are both bringing forth information, like the power of today's full Moon, that will be very useful.

I have missed the last few days. Work has been keeping me busy lately plus I had a few doctor appointments. Nothing seemed to be easy this week. Elizabeth had a neurology appointment on Tuesday. We waited 2 months to get in for her migraines. They called Monday and canceled because they scheduled her with a doctor that only sees patients with epilepsy. They now can't get her in until May. So I need to see if I can find a doctor that is with a different hospital system.

Wednesday I had a dentist appointment. Just a routine cleaning that turned into 2 more appointments. I have a cavity and then pain when I chew food that they can't find why so going to a more specialized doctor for.

Thursday was going good until after 8:30. Elizabeth had her baton lesson and hurt her ankle. It is either sprained or broken. She thinks it is broke because the pain is more pinpointed then general (the way it felt with other sprained she has had). We are off the the open clinic this afternoon to get it checked. Thankfully we saved all the boots she has had over the years so she is wearing that at school to help her until we get into the clinic this afternoon. She still has her broken thumb and we have an appointment for that next Friday.

I had my yearly OB/GYN appointment this morning and will have surgery in March to get my tubes tied. Also in March I will be getting a fast MRI since I have dense tissue and they want to be cautious and do a better check since I had some spots show up on the mammogram a few years ago. They ended up being nothing and just kind of went way. They are not even sure what it was.

So lots of things going on here. Nick also got some scholarships done that were due this week and we are getting everything done for Elizabeth to take college classes again next year. I feel like the rest of this year and next year will be so busy with the kids and getting all the college stuff together. But it is an exciting time.

Tomorrow I think we will be going to the Science Center with our friends and the twins so that will be fun. Other then that we are just going to chill for the weekend.

My accomplishments this week... slightly better eating, getting more of the pruning clippings picked up and actually doing my burning release full moon ritual last night.

Big plans for the weekend... none, just little ones. I do really want to get out for lunch and a movie, so that'll be the highlight. For about a month I've been congested and I usually think something like this is food related but now I'm thinking might be the mohair yarn I've been knitting with. So over the weekend I'm doing an experiment to not touch any of it. I'll be sad if it turns out the mohair is the culprit because I love the way it knits up, but also relieved if the stuffiness clears up.

Today is my MILs 84th birthday, so we're all going out to dinner tonight. Her driver's license was expiring today and I know she was nervous about having to take the test (I'm not sure why she waited until the last day to take her test, but that's a whole other story lol). I hope she passed, but I guess we'll find out tonight.

Sunday is oldest DDs birthday - she's coming tonight to dinner, but I'm not sure when our little family will go out to treat her for her special day. She has plans with her boyfriend / friends on Sunday, so it will probably have to be next week sometime.

Otherwise, not much going on - we'll probably go see a movie on Saturday evening unless something else comes up. It's really one of my favorite things to do!

This weekend is a Lodge installation & dinner on Saturday and probably helping DS with some stuff on Sunday. I also need to get to the rest of the "down for Christmas" stuff that got packed in boxes when the holiday decorations went up. (I never just put it back out, but kind of go slow and try to declutter a bit.)

It's been a week and was such a weird day at work glad it's the weekend.
Last night the weather wasn't awful during scouts so once DH showed up I was able to get in an almost 2 mile walk. Was a bit chilly to start but was fine once I got moving. And the meeting went late for the older kids so I was able to finish the latest episode of madigan's pubcast while I waited for DS11 and one of his friends.
Finished watching "the bear" during my lunch break today. While I enjoyed it would not call it a comedy!
Speaking of comedies...anyone else looking forward to the possibility of Ryan Gosling singing at the oscars?
Tomorrow MIL, one of my aunts, one of my cousins and I are all going to see "Ain't too Proud." I've already seen it but looking forward to a little girls afternoon.

SOCIAL SATURDAY

I'm not sure if any of you follow Living By Disney, but earlier this week she posted about a topic that's been going around TikTok - third places.

The idea is that we all need three places: home, work and a place to go to socialize, like the neighborhood church or pub. There's been a decline in third places in American society for decades and social media in particular has accelerated that decline. There's a thought that the recent increase in depression in the American population is linked to so many people not having third places to go to make social connections with neighbors and to build community.

Had you heard of the importance of third places? Do you have a third place that you go to regularly to fill the emotional need for community and connection?

The concept of third places really hit home for me. Like many, I really only have one place because I work from home. I've thought and talked a lot about finding my people since moving here, and I think place was informally attached to that, but I hadn't thought purely about finding a place.

One of the coffee shops I go to is at the Commons at the Fort, and outside the shop there is a sitting area with a fireplace where I see people gathering and chatting and I think I'm going to start going for my chai one of the weekend days, instead of to-go on a work morning, and maybe sit and take a book.

After I get back from vacation I'm going to start pottery classes, so the studio where they are held will hopefully become a regular place I go to where I can connect with a pottery community. And the local yarn shop has knit night on Thursdays, but I always talk myself out of going partly because it's a work day and by the evening I'm done. But they have an open crafting get-together Sunday afternoons and I'm going to try that tomorrow.

Fingers crossed something will pan out to become my place... and then maybe I'll find my people there.

Tested negative again today! No symptoms!

It’s been a very challenging week with DH having Covid and all that goes with it. The furnace kept cutting out, and we’re still dealing with flooding. In the midst of the at home chaos, I had to prepare for a substitute every day in case I got Covid, give a standardized math exam to 24 kindergartners on iPads, and do report cards. I had a scary situation with my asthma medication that is no longer covered by insurance and costs $1000. The pharmacy and doctor’s office had a serious communication problem leaving me with two doses and no new medication. The nurse I spoke with was RUDE and blamed me for waiting until the last minute even though I had not done that since the doctor renewed the prescription on Monday and this information about insurance was not made available until Thursday. It was bad. I started a new medication today after 10 years on the previous one. Hopefully it works.

Anyway, I woke up this morning wanting to leave this week behind. Fortunately I had an appointment for a mani pedi and massage…just what I needed to recover from this disaster of a week.
