It's Showtime! September 2023 Exercise Challenge

Our next musical was never meant to be on Broadway. Instead it was merely being considered for professional and amateur licensing for regional, community, and educational performances. However, it was so well received during its run at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ, where it opened in September of 2011, that Disney Theatrical changed its mind and decided to bring it to Broadway after all.

It then opened on Broadway at the Nederlander Theatre on March 29, 2012. Jeremy Jordan (of Broadway's Bonnie & Clyde, Supergirl (tv), Smash (tv), and an upcoming new production of Gatsby which will premiere at the Paper Mill Playhouse next month and in which he will costar with one of our most favorite Broadway leading ladies, Samantha Pauly - we love Sam - one of CarolineBowmanFan37's 2 vocal instructors! Had to throw her name out there, too, for Gatsby) starred in this show about a real life strike that occurred in 1899. You can also watch this musical on Disney +. Can you guess what this next musical is?

It's Newsies The Musical!

Did you guess correctly? Stay tuned for more info!

Here's an article about Newsies when it was playing at the Paper Mill Playhouse. A photo slideshow is partway down the article.

Newsies Trailer:
I'm exhausted just watching the trailer! What a physically demanding show this must be!

Newsies recently spent time on London's West End (opened in Nov 22, closed this past July), and here's an article featuring fun facts that came out as part of the show's promotion:

I have never seen Newsies, but isn't there a version on Disney+?
Yes, the proshot of the musical is available on Disney+. I wish they would do this with all of their musicals in order to make theatre more accessible to a wider audience. It can't replace live theatre, of course, but making the proshots available might inspire more people to give live theatre a try. And for those that find the ticket prices too costly, at least they'd have an alternative.
