Here now new lounge chair policy

The new policy went into effect yesterday. No chairs can be reserved before 8am. Anything left on chairs before that time will be removed. It has been strictly enforced
I am a DVC member as well as a Marriott Vacation Club member owning at the Surf Club in Aruba for Platinum Plus President's week in February. They have the same policy. People are actually out on pool chairs with their pillows and blankets before the sun rises to reserve their spots. I believe the rule is you cannot leave things until after 7:00. After 7:00 people go back to their rooms and have spots for the day...it is crazy. I usually just pay for a palapa on the beach rather than get up before the sun to reserve a spot... I hope this doesn't happen here!

We always only got 2 seats for the 4 of us as the kids rarely stayed at the chairs. I am sure that many families get one per person though.
We're a family of three and usually just get one. Usually to hold our stuff or for one of us to sit with DD on.

I have been going Aulani for 2-3 times a year, the past several years and the chair situation has been getting worse. Actually got into argument with another persons because we only had 1 chair and needed another. No one was using this chair for over an hour, it had only used pool towels on it. I put the towels in the towel bin and used the chair. The couple returns and starts grumbling and complaining that I took their chair. Well, I guess I did but they broke the rules. Longer than an hour! They said they were swimming! But they were dry and dressed like they just came from lunch at a restraunt. Liars!
People are just to greedy and want and take so much from everywhere. That is why the Hawaiian people get tired of "tourists" expecting to have their cake and eat it too. I have seen hordes of people take more than enough chairs for their party and not even use half of them. Greedy, plain and simple. Everybody pays to stay at the resort. Show some aloha, after all you are in Hawaii.
But hard to expect that from "visitors." Haole means foreigner FYI.
If the resort made lockers, that would help so much as we don't always need a chair and just want some place to store a few things.

I agree it's greedy, but no need to put down "tourists". I'm guessing the Hawaiian visitors to the resort do the same things in regards to saving chairs...

Forgot to note, last visit there was past February, and most chairs were "reserved" before 8:00 am. I found couple of chairs for my family of 4, kids don't need it. People started to return around 9:30ish. Ridiculous. Obvious they were eating breakfast.
Hope this new policy works! Or at least helps some.

I have personally never seen locals "reserve" too many chairs. But I am not there everyday.

Whoever it is, it's still greedy.

My point was, just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. No need to put people down just because they're tourists. If it wasn't for tourism, many Hawaiians wouldn't even have jobs, as is the case in any destination that thrives off of tourism.

Anyone know how they are enforcing the no chair reserving before 8am rule? If someone puts their stuff down at 7:45 to reserve a chair, will they be told they can't leave it there? Should we expect a line or crowd of people waiting at 8am to be let in to reserve their chairs? Will it be a mad dash to the best chairs at 8am? LOL - half joking but really wondering the logistics of it all.

We are here now and they do appear to be enforcing that rule. Looking out before 8 am I see no chairs reserved although there are people actually using some of the chairs.

After 8am, if there enforcement? If someone leaves for 2 hours to go off site for lunch, and try to keep their "reserved spot", will someone be checking to let others use the chairs?

Yes, we have seen them enforcing it after 8 am.

I think its a continuous process so that they can cover the entire pool area as part of their normal duties. The sign says one hour.

So what's the availability of tables/chairs (or at least regular chairs vs. lounge chairs)? We are coming in June with my elderly, limited mobility parents.....pool lounge chairs are just not something they can sit in--they need regular chairs and prefer to sit at a table. We usually find these ok at other DVC resorts without too much of an issue if I can there early.

Its mostly lounge chairs. However, over by the Adult pool there are a few more regular-type chairs and a few tables. Please note that this is the adult pool. If you've got minors in your party as well, this won't be an option for you.

At the main pool there are tables and chairs at the Off the Hook pool bar. We were there in January during a slower time and don't recall them being spoken for except around meal times. Not sure how busier times will be.

Thats a great rule, We were there last summer I am a early riser usually out walking at 630am..... would routinely walk to beach and just enjoy the surrounding by 715am... Could not believe how many people would come down throw a few towels and bags down and just leave.... not really fair to most people

We are here now and are happy to report they are enforcing the policy. A cm is continually walking through the area, if chairs aren't occupied for 30 mins he comes by and folds the towel and places it on the back of the chair. 30 mins later he comes back and removes the towels.

Thanks for the report Alicia. That's what we saw last week too. It seems to be working.
