News Round Up 2016

GotG characters appeared in Magic Kingdom last year for the IPW conference, so they are not restricted under the agreement.

As a note, Cap also made an appearance at the Contemporary last year for another conference. The US/Marvel agreement is limited to the parks, not the entire property

I don't especially count private conferences, due to it's incredible exclusivity and such.

For a day guest, they -likely- aren't going to see any of these Marvel characters at Walt Disney World in the near future.

I wonder if this will be another cost cutting move...if they can get enough people to sign up for a tour by giving away three FP+ that is a lot cheaper than staffing all the DVC info booths.

I'm sure they'll still staff the booths - I think this is just a way to entire -more- people into the tours. Maybe this is a replacement for the $50 gift card they used to do?

Those concerned that ToT in Orlando is getting the overlay as well - keep in mind the ride layout is very different. They can't just copy the overlay from DL and bring it to HS.

I'm not saying it is impossible and will never happen. Just that it's not as easy and rolling out the same overlay. Apart from the concept, the rest would have to be designed from the ground up to fit the ToT.

Add the fact they are in the middle of opening the new bar in the exit area, and that would suggest to me that they don't intend to modify the orlando ToT anytime soon.

But hey, who knows... a positive reception to the DL version could change things I suppose.

The rumors I have heard are that DHS could overlay TOT or RNR with Guardians of the Galaxy (GOTG) now, but would have to take it out in a few years. Supposedly at some point in Infinity Wars the GOTG characters will appear. As soon as that happens, then Universal's agreement would kick in as it includes all characters associated with the ones they currently have so at that point, the GOTG characters couldn't appear at the WDW parks any longer. Admittedly this is all rumor, but it may be a reason if we find DCA gets it and neither ride in DHS does.

I thought the Universal/Marvel deal only applied to the current characters they have: Spiderman, Hulk, Captain America (maybe other Avengers but not Ant Man), some/all of X Men, Transformers (is this Marvel?). I thought GOTG were owned by Disney and could be at any park. Universal doesn't have the right to any and all Marvel characters, just ones explicitly spelled out in the contracts.

That has been debunked here enough that I don't think we need a response.

I believe they are doing DL version because they want a quick move to get Marvel going, as they plan to expand more and more Marvel into DL. They are extremely limited with what if any Marvel content they can use in DHS or WDW, That and they $$$$ they have already committed to DHS for TSL and SWL tells me it won't happen at DHS.

This Kind of Sums Up the Joint Custody nicely

We essentially don't know what the contract stipulates for characters like GOTG, Antman, etc. And from the looks of it, those kind of characters seem still up in the air for the companies themselves, because neither side wants to do something that paints them in the wrong.

I really don't see Disney really moving to try and get any Marvel characters and attractions into the parks for the general public (Private parties and events are different) until Universal makes a decision to abandon their Marvel deal.

Cost savings (they don't have to pay to license The Twilight Zone anymore) and synergy by promoting their own products and selling their own merchandise in the gift shop.

I understand it makes sense to bean counters on a spreadsheet, but I still think it's a crappy thing to do to a great ride.

Transformers (is this Marvel?).

Transformers was a Marvel comic back in the day, but Marvel does not own the Transformers rights.

Soooo...is WDW ToT going down for refub in September until May 2017..??? Pete on Dis Daily Podcast said Micechat confirmed it for DHS but all I'm seeing on their page is DCA

We were at Disney Springs yesterday afternoon/early evening and some of the walls are beginning to come down. You can see the "springs" and new buildings that have been going up. It is really coming together nicely. The water features or "Springs" look great and have some cool lighting effects a well.

Really looking forward to seeing it when it all comes together.

Pete is incorrect that was only for DCA at this time. DHS may get the refurb but its less likely right now.

News

Disney has filed a permit for conservation easement of 252 acres of property.

Interesting... that's approximately 200 acres around Hollywood Studios and 75 acres between Epcot and Beach Club that they have filed to have the environment easements released. One would have presumed the area around Hollywood Studios, but what could be in the plans for that Epcot area?

The area around DHS was filed for a while ago I believe. Some of that will be parking, some staging for construction. The area in major question would be around Epcot and Beach Club, they possibly could be looking at another resort.
