leaving magic kingdom right now. Buses & monorail down. Was told there was an accident on the monorail. Nothing coming in or out on this side. We all must take ferry over to ticket/ transportation and get buses from there. Don't know what type of accident but it sounds bad

Not yet. There is a rumor going around that there was a car accident also. I don't know about that. Cast members are saying monorail accident, but not saying what happened

According to the Orlando Sentinel , it was just a Monorail that was stuck .No accident .
Somewhere between the Contemporary Resort and Magic Kingdom . All guests had to be evacuated via ladder truck .

Emergency crews have responded to a monorail stuck at Walt Disney World Resort, according to Orange County Fire Rescue officials.

Fire officials were called to assist Reedy Creek Fire and Rescue around 5 p.m. Saturday for a monorail stuck between Disney's Contemporary Resort and Magic Kingdom. A ladder truck was dispatched at 5:02 to evacuate passengers.

No injuries have been reported and no one was in need of medical attention, according to Orange County Fire and Rescue.

Passengers and bystanders took to social media about the incident saying they were stuck for more than two hours.

It is not known at this time what caused the stoppage.

This is a breaking news story. Check back for updates.

I wonder when they're going to replace the Mark VI monorails. Haven't they been in service since 1989?

That's 26 years.

I wouldn't mind my DVC dues pitching in for this...

Another should be hot topic item that gets little attention...

Don't think this current regime has any attention whatsoever to touch those things beyond minimal maintenance.

I've also postulated in the past that I think the beams are coming down...or can see the strong possibility in the distant or not too distant future.

I agree that Disney has been trying to stretch the lifespan of the current monorails far too long, resulting in more breakdowns as time goes by.

I sure hope the beams never come down.

Well...the monorail is in now way a necessary system from a strict operational/cost perspective. The belchers could do the same...

There are modifications coming soon to the parking lot...I assume for poly DVC but it could be that or much more/less.

And we do know that it was studied and deemed to expensive to construct/expand almost 30 years ago...and that can't have gotten better...the thing covers a very small percentage of traffic in reality to the whole of the property.

So no guarantees

Monorail Yellow was the culprit .......... mechanical probs . Everything is reported to be back to normal now . Unfortunately , reports are indicating that guests were stuck on the downed monorail for 3 hours !

Ugghhh , why did it have to be Monorail Yellow in the spotlight (and not in a good way)! Thats my favorite Monorail , and also my favorite drink when relaxing at TOWL !!!

It does seem like they are having a lot of "issues" with the Monorail system, despite regular schedule adjustments for maintenance. Age?

If it wasn't such an iconic structure for WDW I suspect they might have phased it out already.

Transportation Systems are just like any other machines, cars, computers, etc...

You can replace every single part individually 10x over...but the machine will fail at some point...it's never as solid as when it's built as a whole...

So yeah...Disneyland is on set 4 in 60 years and the "ugly little brother" is on 2 nearing 45....

Can't reinvent physics, gravity, the weather, and electrical engineering

They did replace the monorails at Disneyland. One problem - no AC!

Definitely a problem...but not as much as it would be in Florida...

Doesn't validate their borderline wreckless overextension or at a minimum failure to modernization the swamp subway...

That second part would have been big about 6 years ago or so

Now I'm curious as to what time it actually broke down. The express was closed just before 4 today, but the resort was still running. If they didn't even call rescue until 5, that would have been a pretty miserable wait.

Edit://
Looks like they were evacuating at 4:10. I assume the resort line was down for the actual evac, so I must have gone by just before they closed that line as well

I think monorails are cool but ultimately they don't seem to stand up as practical transportation. I will completely understand if it is removed someday from WDW.

I am happy with WEDway in MK and I would be even happier if they built one in Epcot, or built a monorail in the style of IOA's Dr. Suess ride. WEDway might be a better solution overall because of the continuous loading. Having to roof it may seem like an extra expense, however it's weatherproof and always comfortably breezy, and it could fit into Future World architecturally - especially if the existing monorail were removed, it would fill a gap and restore the look of the architecture and the feeling of motion.

AK needs a sky tram in the style of Busch Gardens Tampa. It's a great people mover, it's reliable and simple technology, it provides a 100 times better view of the park and animals than AK's current one-sided steam train to (practically) nowhere, and it would be a much needed relief on the feet when crossing the park.

Wasn't an accident just a stalled monorail.
