Jorts For Men?? Are They Ever Acceptable?

my wife threw my jorts out some years ago. whenever I bring the subject up, she tunes me out. my daughters laugh when I say I might get another pair. but in truth, I think they are horrified that I actually would. I personally liked mine and would wear them again. the women in my life will make sure that doesn't happen.

I have some Jean shorts I still wear occasionally. They were in style when DW bought them for me & they still fit. I'm 48, so I could give 2 flips about fashion.

I'm also glad for shorter shorts making a comeback. I won't wear them super short (like I did in the 80's & 90's), but it's nice being able to find shorts & trunks that aren't essentially capris. IMO, right at the knee while standing, knee fully exposed while sitting is "just right".

I probably wouldn't care about fashion either but my wife does...and if I'm out with her (or even alone and people know me/her/us)...yeah, she helps to dress me, or at least makes sure I have modern styles to wear.

I'm with you on the length too. Anything that sits AT my mid thigh is too short, for me. I like my shorts (both swim and regular) to sit at just above my knee.

I would hang on to your jean shorts whatever you think of them now. Just like anything they will be back in fashion eventually.

My wife is normally very up on fashion & she recently tried to buy me some Jean shorts. I guess she likes how they look on me. The shorts I'm wearing these days are lighter & more comfortable in addition to apparently being more in fashion LOL

My son loves jean shorts, he's 12, and dresses nicer than my daughter, they aren't cutoffs, and they aren't short shorts, but lots of kids at school wear them.

Sadly, my husband has several pairs of jorts. He's firmly stuck in the 90's. They are getting ratty and I'm NOT buying any more so hopefully they'll be gone soon. :yay:

I like jorts, but Im old , and even with that im a bit sub conscious cause I know of all the hate for them

Well I'm even older  and I'm as far away as a fashion plate as you can get, but jorts don't look right to me. I had some in the 80s, maybe even the 90s, but somewhere along the line I decided they weren't for me any longer. Then over the past couple of years I started seeing more of them and thinking nobody wears those any more:confused3 So guys made a conscious decision to start wearing them again? That's like wearing black dress socks with shorts. The only guys who do that just don't know any better.

The whole jorts thing is a big deal in Florida; it ties into intercollegiate football rivalry. They were so popular in the area around Gainesville that students at other Florida schools started making a thing out of Florida fans being jorts-wearers. Now people who go to other Florida schools won't be caught dead in them. (My DS is still a firm fan of cargo shorts, but he would never live down a pair of jorts.)

When you think about it, jorts ARE kind of an oxymoron, especially in a very warm state like Florida. Denim is a pretty heavy fabric, so just cutting them shorter doesn't do much to cool you off.

I cannot understand why the big deal about jean shorts on men. Men why jeans..why not jean shorts? And I happen to love the newer shorter swim trunks. Especially if a man has great legs. Those models above look wonderful. I don't get why any man would want to wear swim trunks down around their knees. That looks weird and seems like all that wet fabric would be very uncomfortable.

Nope, the wet fabric is very comfortable. Not bothersome at all.

I'm still trying to get past anyone calling denim shorts "jorts"

I didn't invent the word. In fact, I picked it up from this very forum. I think it was Mr. Low Key who mentioned the term.

Where do you people live that denim isn't acceptable?

Why, in civilized areas, of course. ;) Long denim jeans, acceptable. Jorts, sort of acceptable in certain situations. Cut off denim shorts, never acceptable.
