Tower of Terror - Alone?

Hi, everyone!

My niece will not stop talking about going on Tower of Terror (she's never been, this is her first trip). Here's the problem: her mother will not ride it with her and I can't because of a medical condition.

She is eight years old. Is there any way she could possibly ride it by herself if her mother and I wait in line and then go through the chicken exit and wait for her at the end?

If so, how can I reassure her mother that she isn't going to be kidnapped?

I'd hate for my niece to miss out on a ride she's super-excited about. She saw the movie and would love to experience it.

If it's not possible, do you have any tips for how to let her down gently?

She can ride it. Especially if you are waiting in line with her. It would be nearly impossible to be kidnapped on the ride, Where could she go? You will be waiting when she gets out of the elevator car. Strike up a conversation with a family in line near you, maybe she can ride with them. Nothing wrong with that, I'd take a kid on a ride for the parents if I'm already in line to ride it anyway. It isn't limited to just a couple people per ride so she could fit in with any small group.

You're not serious about the kidnapping, right? Just exaggerating, I hope? You can wait in line with her, watch her get on, then wait for her at the exit. She'll be fine.

I have to ask. What movie are you talking about?

The Tower of Terror movie. I've never seen it, but I heard that it's pretty bad. She also loves the Haunted Mansion movie, so I guess your mileage may vary.

Nope. She the mother very nervous. :confused3 I understand being anxious, but I hope I can reassure her that we'll be right there at the end to get her daughter.

I almost forgot to thank you both! Thank you for the info!

Who's nervous? Your granddaughter or her mother? For some reason, I'm confused.

I'll edit for clarity, sorry about that. My cousin, the mother, gets nervous. I'd be reassuring her that we'll be right there at the end to collect her daughter.

I'm going with my cousin and her daughter... who's technically also my cousin. But, I call her my niece since I'm an only child and I want to be the best aunt ever. :goodvibes

Tell her that no child has ever been kidnapped from a Disney-owned theme park and it's highly unlikely her daughter will be the first.

How is she going to be kidnapped? If you take the chicken exit for ToT, you are taken to where the people exit the ride. The only way out is to walk right past you, and only one "elevator" (the ride car) exits at a time, so there isn't a big crowd of people. Otherwise, I think if her mother is that afraid of a kidnapping, she needs to just ride with her daughter.

As far as age cut-off she's fine to ride alone. I don't like to ride with my kids so I stay with them through the queue and meet them at the end.

ETA thanks for the heads about TOT movie - I'd never heard of it and now my kids want to watch :)

I didn't know there was a movie, I'll have to look it up.

The movie was done as a Disney channel original movie before they were called that. It aired in 1999 I think it was. It was based off the old twilight zone episode about the Hollywood tower hotel. They turned it into a movie, and from there developed the ride.

As others have said, stand in line with her, you make it tell them she's going on the ride and your exiting and you'll be at the exit.. I'm thinking relaxing mom that her baby is old enough to ride a ride she won't do alone is going to be more of the challenge. don't rush to tot and all rides before that is practice for how to act on a ride before she rides alone is my best thought..

I'm kind of at the point my size impacts my ability to do more thrilling rides but I learned if I did it first, I could get my daughter on without going alone.

She will be fine and will be thankful that she was allowed to do it. Please tell mom she should be encouraging this independence. I have teens...let me tell you that a lot of their friends lack this and it is quite scary that they will be off to college soon!

If the mother is super nervous you could even go as far as having her go straight to the exit and then you wait in line with the child - taking the chicken exit out while she gets on the ride. Then at no point would there not be someone at both exits watching for her.

If it helps reassure you at all I would have totally allowed my kids to do this at that age (12 and a newly turned 9).

Not true. The ride debuted in 1994; the movie is from 1997. The opening scene is edited from a Twilight Zone episode called "It's a Good Life" that has a totally different plot from the backstory of ToT.

TOT movie per Wiki
Tower of Terror is a 1997 made-for-TV supernatural thriller directed by D. J. MacHale. It is based on the theme parkattraction, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, at Disney's Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida and was originally a presentation of The Wonderful World of Disney. It is also Disney's first film based on an attraction at one of its theme parks, though it's also the only adaptation to be made for television rather than being made as a theatrical film.[2][3][4]

Unlike the theme park ride, the film has no connection to any incarnation of The Twilight Zone.[4]

Much of the film was shot at the actual attraction at Disney-MGM Studios. The rest was filmed on a closed stage in Hollywood, California.

Honestly, I would be more concerned about your 8-year old niece riding alone ToT and the trauma that it may cause her! ToT its pretty intense!
