Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE RESORT Information & Questions

When boarding POR buses with an ECV, is one bus stop preferable to the others? We will be staying in the Royal Rooms on the mansion side.

I have just booked a Royal Guest Room, with the military rate whoop, for Princess Half Marathon weekend. We are running three races that weekend. Is there a better location to request that would be closest to the bridge over to the main building and south depot as that's where race transportation will be? (And our legs will be rather tired by the end of the weekend!) TIA!

ETA: We have a Garden View Room as it was all that was available with the discount. Is it reasonable to request to be close to the bridge over to the main building/lobby?

Following up on a question from early August. I read information on another website indicating that Ol' Man Island and the main pool were going to be closed in January. We're now less than 4 months from a possible two month pool closure and it seems there is still nothing official being released. Shouldn't Disney be letting guests for that period know of such a major closure?

I still can't confirm or deny that any maintenance work will be occurring on the Ol' Man Island feature pool during January/February 2016, but I have recently been informed that Walt Disney World's official policy is now to hold back on any official announcements for this sort of work until no earlier than three months in advance, to ensure that all of their internal teams and external partners can provide accurate information for guests. (Yeah, I know...)

The blog post on the Touringplans site (http://blog.touringplans.com/2015/08/04/walt-disney-world-newsworthy-notes-august-4-2015/) was based on details provided via Disney's Travel Agent site, information that has apparently since been removed from the Disney site. This means that either the information was incorrect in the first place, or that it was correct but was prematurely released. Touringplans say the latter seems more likely, although I couldn't possibly comment of course.

Yep, if that's what you want then that would be the best way to request it. There are some Garden View Royal Rooms very conveniently located in that area.

Andre

Thank you! I kept looking at the maps trying to think of how to word it, and that was what I came up with. When the discount hoopla has died down I will add it to our reservation. I'm a little excited about the Royal Rooms!

Thanks, Andre. That's a real head-scratcher. LOL. Unfortunately, as much as we love PORS, I'm not willing to take a chance on booking there only to find out a month from now that the pool is going to be closed. We might rent Vacation Club points this year and stay in a Studio Villa.

Completely reasonable. That's what I did this year! There are some royal rooms pretty close to the bridge. There is a map on the portorleans.org website.

We will be arriving at POR in exactly one week. I have gotten so much valuable information from this thread , and for that I am grateful .

This is my first stay at this resort and I feel prepared thanks to all of you wonderful posters .

You are going to have an amazing time! POR is the best!

Thank you! I'm happy to hear you had a positive experience with it! The map on portorleans is what gave me the idea to ask for by the bridge! Fingers crossed the room assignment gods will have mercy on our legs and get us close to the bridge! ;)

Honestly, even if you're not, you still don't have to worry about being clear on the other side of the property. Neither building is very far from the bridge, but yes...I know what you mean. A few steps may as well be 10 miles when you're hurting!

It definitely can. Last year we were at French Quarter which was so nice and compact so I'm probably overthinking the walking at Riverside. Super excited though! First GSC and first stay in a Royal Room! (My three boys aren't that interested in a princess room sadly...although I might convince the younger ones with the headboards...)

As long as you're somewhere in the vicinity of the bridge, I wouldn't worry about it. As far as royal rooms go, they're honestly not that princess-y. They actually have a lot of cool details that boys will like too. The faucets look like the lamp from Aladdin and the magic carpet is on the floor. Plus, yes...the headboards are very cool. I turned mine on every night, and I had no kids with me. lol

I wish I could give you a definitive answer now, but I would say that if you're really concerned about the main pool (possibly) being closed while you visit, perhaps it might be better to err on the side of caution...

Do remember that there are five other very nice pools at POR too though, so it really wouldn't be the end of the world if the main one was closed (unless your whole vacation relies on the pool slide or hot tub, and kids' music parties :) ).
