What is the goon squad thing?
The goon squad is what their family is calling the people that enter their room for the additional security check.
My nickname for the “security” inspectors. Trying to find some humor in what is a sad situation. I’ve been inspected all three days, three different experiences.
We did pass on housekeeping to experience that so maybe why we got it. If I can avoid the intrusion by keeping the housekeeping that will be my choice next trip ... although next trip is actually booked offsite.
First off, we are all adults, we love to close the parks down and we sleep in late. We also are apparently very welcomed by the manager who had a note and chocolates sent to us. But still potential criminals so we got the look over.
Day one, DS2 went to run so we just happened to be up earlier than normal. I was making sandwiches to take to park and both kids were laying on bed. Knock. DS2 got up and cracked the door open. It was an elderly man in housekeeping clothes with a small smart thing in his hand. He started his spiel of "I am here to make sure everyone is safe, you have what you need and the room has no maintenance problems." As he was saying it I walked up and we opened the door wide so he could look in but we made no effort to move and he made no effort to come inside. He said thank you and moved on. This was about 9:30 am.
Day two, DS1 and I were returning early for him to rest/nap and as we approached our door a man walked up. He was difficult to understand and had I not known what was said day before or that this was going on I might have been really uncomfortable. I stepped back from the door (I did not unlock it for him, if he was who he said he could do it). I said fine. He threw the bolt so I could watch in through the crack, he literally walked around, turned on both bathroom lights and looked around, then came out. He pulled door shut, as he shouldn't assume it was my room so that was good. It was absolutely pointless. No good bad guy leaves anything out. We keep our stuff put away, our suitcases closed and nothing in their view. It was about 3:30 pm.
Day three, 9 am the knock at the door. DS2 was in shower so I looked out peep. It was a lady this time, I couldn't see her uniform for a coat. I cracked the door open and she asked me if everything was being maintained okay and did I need anything. I did not open the door wide. I said we were fine, thank you and shut the door. Now we were gone the rest of the day until now so they may have returned.
So 9 am, 9:30 am - both times we are usually in room and 3:30 pm which is prime rest time. None convenient for us. This has zero point whatsoever. I had more comfort since DS2 was with me but often he is not. I don't like this, I feel much more unsafe and not sure what impact it will have on future trips. Following along to see how this plays out.
