My diet is a 180 degree opposite from what it used to be. I really didn't care what I ate before. If I was hungry (or if I wasn't hungry) and wanted it, I ate it. Now that I look at calories religiously I can see that the things I used to order usually were usually one of the two or three worst things on the menu. I also ate a lot of fast food before, where now my only drive through is Subway. I don't eat fried foods anymore. Now at a restaurant I pretty much order the most healthy thing on the menu, and while it might not be as good as the heavy butter and heavy cream things of the past, the new stuff is still pretty good and I still like it. It's a change I can live with.
Cooking at home has been totally different too. We use Blue Apron so everything is fresh and mostly healthy. I've learned how to cook healthier. Blue Apron has opened me up to trying a lot of different things, lots of greens with meals and lots of ingredients that we never used before (both my wife and I found out we really like meals with ginger). Gone are the days of just reheating chicken strips or processed meals that you just stick in the oven. My portions are much smaller now too.
My main hangup now is trying to incorporate little treats here and there and not feel totally guilty about having them. I'm learning that a small bowl of ice cream is ok once a week or splitting some popcorn at the movies won't be the end of the world. It's something that has been really tough for me, but now that I transition to more of a maintaining phase, it's getting better.
