Travels With Teens: Take Two “I Can Organize This Trip in My Sleep!”BC Dee in DC Roti & Fini p. 40

Interesting. I didn't know that, and I eat at Liberty Inn almost every trip.
Then again, I usually go straight for the kosher menu and don't pay much attention to the regular menu...

I think they have had the steak for a couple of years.

The chaperone who had it said it was ok. Not great, but fine.

:)

Hmm ... I'd guess Haunted Mansion ... because there are 999 happy haunts.

That may be the ride where the most people try to scatter the ashes of their departed loved ones. I can't remember if it is Haunted or Pirates, but some people are weird!

I wonder what was going on ... but I guess it wasn't too big of a deal if you never found out what it was. I hope nobody was hurt or anything!

The ride started up again pretty quickly, so I don't think it was anything too serious.

:thumbsup2

That's some pretty fast walking!

Yup!

:rotfl2:

That's a little surprising ... the army stuff doesn't interest boys? Who knew...

The exhibit doesn't go fast enough to interest the boys. Well, maybe that one who wouldn't ride anything...

:sad2:

Well that's just not fair. Chaperones need treats too!

One of the rules for the chaperones on the trip is no alcohol.

:headache:

Interesting. I wouldn't have guessed that, but unfortunately, it makes sense. Drownings are a pretty big cause of death in many places, unfortunately.

It makes for a good question/story, now if I could just verify the info.

:rolleyes1

Wednesday June 10, 6 pm-ish

It was drizzly when we arrived at Hollywood Studios.

Look, Ma, no hat!

With a group of boys and no Fast Passes, the smart move was to start at Star Tours. There was not much of a wait.

DSCF7286.jpg

When we got to the place where we needed to say how many in our group (17) we were placed at the very last loading bay and eventually others were added to our line.

As we waited, I prepped our group about increasing our odds at being picked for “Rebel Spy”

The first tip- be part of a group- Check!

Next, when you sit down, look straight ahead. Do not put on your 3-D glasses right away.

We were seated in the theatre and there was some sort of issue with where one of our boys (the son of my friend L. ) was told to sit. I think he was near where the handicapped seating was, and he was asked to move to a seat at the back of the theatre, away from our group. He did so politely and without fuss.

I didn’t take notes during our time at HS, so I didn’t write down and I don’t remember what sequences we got during the show.

I also said that I wouldn’t show pictures of the kids from the trip, but here is my friend’s son, M. as Rebel Spy.

DSCF7288.jpg

I think his anonymity is safe!

After Star Tours, we went to check on the wait time for Toy Story Mania. I can’t remember what it was, but it was more than an hour and the boys didn’t want to wait.

So we did this instead:

DSCF7294.jpg

Which might seem like a strange thing for a group of teenaged boys, but I think half of the boys in our walking group are involved in theatre, both at school and/or in community theatre.

DSCF7297.jpg

DSCF7298.jpg

Action! Let’s roll!

DSCF7301.jpg

Once again, since I was on the trip without my other half, I was able to take pictures without receiving the evil eye of scrutiny.

We are coming up to the mean streets of New York. Will we blow right through the set, head into the Wild West and get the Cowboy scene???

Nope!

I love the Indiana Jones scenes but my pictures are always blurry.

We were now entering familiar territory to me, Ben, my friend L. and her son. The Wizard of Oz was Ben’s first play (he and Nate were flying monkeys). My friend’s son was a munchkin.

It was raining when we got out of the Great Movie Ride. I had everyone stay under cover and I ran over to check the wait time on TSM again. It was still something like 70 minutes.

This is where I think I made a mistake. We should have waited in line for the ride. I knew we probably wouldn’t have another opportunity on the trip. We were coming back to HS the next afternoon, our last day, but we didn’t have a FP. Ben was still pretty upset that we waited over an hour the previous night for Soarin’. But the queue for TSM is so much better! Plus, it was out of the rain. And I have a feeling that the wait time was actually somewhat inflated.

But we decided not to do it.

At this point our group split up. Some were heading back to the resort and some wanted to go on Tower of Terror.

I opted to stay with the two guy chaperones. My friends L. and S. went back with the kids who didn’t want to stay. Ben was in the group who went back (and got stuck in the rain walking to and waiting for the buses). L’s son, who really had not been on many thrill rides, opted to stay with us. We didn’t know how he would do.

DSCF7352.jpg

The ride was a lot of fun, and the wait was not very long, so we went again.

L’s son did fine and had a huge smile on his face in the pictures. I couldn’t wait to share the news with my friend about her son who was now getting his thrill-on. (Or was he?)

We exited, but not before saying goodbye to Bo.

DSCF7368.jpg

It had stopped raining when we were getting to the bus stop.

When we arrived back at the resort, I made a pit stop at the food court and treated myself to this little beauty.

WP_20150610_091.jpg

Got back to the room, chatted with L. for a bit, this is when we took the recreation “I can organize the trip in my sleep” photos and we got ready for the next morning.

It was our last day, and it was going to be an early one. In fact, I wanted to be at Animal Kingdom when it opened, but breakfast the next day would not be served early enough for us to make rope drop.

So I offered to buy our boys breakfast in the food court so that we could get out of there in time.

Answer to the trivia question: "Ding Dong, The Witch is Dead"

Next up: I paid for that food, I’m gonna take pictures!

It's a shame you hit so much rain. Not much you can do about it.

Regarding the rebel spy, is the reason to not put your glasses on right away because your picture is taken? I've wondered about that.

I love the theming at Tower of Terror. TSM and ToT are my two favorite queues in all of WDW.

Mickey Bar!!!

Could you have arranged to have your group eat earlier and not eat in the food court?

Great update and loving the next ones title even more lol

Do you sense some food porn coming on?

::yes::

Florida-June-rain. Not unexpected. And I have had worse on trips. The group I stayed with at the parks actually remained drier than the group that left because we were inside ToT.

Yes- they want a good picture so they look for someone who is facing forward, without the glasses. Here is a link to the article about it.

http://disneyinyourday.com/2014/03/03/how-to-be-picked-as-the-rebel-spy-on-star-tours/

I agree- TSM and ToT do have the best queues and theming. But I think Forbidden Journey in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is my favorite attraction line anywhere.

That may have been my first and only Mickey Bar of the trip.

I can't remember what time the school was setting out the breakfast buffet offerings the next morning, but it was after 8 am, maybe even 8:30 and I thought it was too late for us to be able to grab breakfast and get to Animal Kingdom close to opening.

We didn't have Fast Passes and had a pretty tight schedule if we wanted to get in the major attractions in AK, then make it to HS for early afternoon for our scheduled FPs.

As it turns out, a mistake at EE ended up messing up a well-thought-out plan!

:sad2:

We are going back to WDW with lots of family, including three grandsons, from June 4th - 8th. How was the weather and the crowds when you were there last June? It occurred to me that your YES trip was just about the same time as our upcoming free dining bounce back family extravaganza.

Arrival Day, Monday June 8- We didn't get there until 7:30 or so, but I don't think it rained that day. Hot

Tues June 9- Hot. It started raining while we were at EPCOT in the evening, maybe started at 7, 7:30? We were in line at Soarin'

That was the morning I was solo at MK. Standby for Mine Train, about an hour. Same for Peter Pan. Little Mermaid and Dumbo were about 5 minutes. We had FP for Space, Splash and BTM in the afternoon and I didn't pay attention to wait times. Small World, 10 min. We got a FP for Buzz about 30 minutes out.

We hopped over to EPCOT and only did Spaceship Earth, Soarin and Dinner.

Wed June 10- Hot, started raining around 2 or so, on and off but not heavy. Rain after dark while we were at HS (7 ish)- on and off, heavy at times.
We had class in the morning and then FP for the afternoon. I don't think it seemed too crowded while we were at EPCOT. We weren't over by the Land, so I don't know what Soarin' looked like that day. After 7 at HS, it was about 10-15 minutes for Star Tours, about 20 min for Great Movie Ride, TSM was posted as more than an hour all night and ToT was about 15 min.

Thurs June 11- Hot. I don't think it rained this day. We went to AK, HS and then stayed at MK until 12:30.

Wait times for EE- walkon at rope drop. Safari, 1 hour at 9:30/10, dinosaur was about 20 min. We had FP for HS. We got to MK around 7 I think, was open to 1 am. Crowded, with it getting less so throughout the night. We did TTA, Buzz, dinner, Haunted, BTM, Splash, Space that night.

:goodvibes:

So it looks like we can expect hot weather with periods of rain. I hope we survive. :faint: I just wish we were at the BC instead of POR. But the free dining bounce back really only makes sense for us if we stay at a moderate resort and have pre-teen boys on the trip. Otherwise, we avoid the dining plan.

Thanks. :)

I love that you guys had a rebel spy in your group! If I ever do Star Tours (not likely, but anything can happen), I'm definitely using your tips (and anything else I can find online) to try to become the rebel spy!

Awesome to hear that your ToT first time did okay! But I'm guessing we just got a spoiler alert and he won't be enjoying other thrill rides...

Mickey Ice Cream is definitely the best dessert after a long, rainy day!

I never knew there were tricks to become the rebel spy. I am going to have to read that and share it.

Looks like your hints at becoming the Rebel Spy worked out.

TSMM always hass uch a crazy wait, I don't blame you for deciding to skip it, but I'm sorry to hear the following day didn't bring much luck with the attraction, either.

Your reasons for staying at POR make sense. I'm sure it will be a great trip.

Woohooo!!!

Not a fan of the hat?

I'll take your word for it.

It is too bad that I wasn't better prepared to take the picture in Star Tours. I don't like having my camera out in attractions like that, but my friend would have loved to have a better picture than that of her son.

Did you expect anything less?? :faint:

I really wish I had pushed a little more for our group to wait for TSM. But my credibility was shot from the night before at EPCOT when the wait time was reported as 70 minutes and I assured our group that it wouldn't be that long. It was.

:sad2:

Great treat to end the day with!

Love :mickeybar

The boys were pretty excited that they were going to have a real breakfast the next morning!

*Spoiler Alert*- we rode Star Tours on our final day and one of our boys was the Rebel Spy again. Of course, I think we took up half of the theatre so the odds were good anyway, but I'm sure following the tips can't hurt.

So you picked up on that not-so-subtle clue? Here's another- the title of that chapter is Yeti & Yak

Mickey Bars are AWESOME!!!

:dogdance:

:thumbsup2Lol yes totally expecting food porn next to keep me entertained

Coming up!

I really wish we could have done this attraction, especially since it is one that EVERYONE in our group would ride willingly.

Not a fan of the hat?
Yes... and no.

I don't mind the hat. I actually kind of like it.

But I remember when DHS... or rather MGM was built. I liked the sightlines of the park and the theater being front and center. I wasn't a fan of having a hat and a huge stage essentially planted permanently in front of it so that you can't really see it. If the placement of the hat was better I'd have been fine with it.

But now that it is gone, I'm sure we'll be blocking the theater with a Death Star or something after the Star Wars construction.

I think I feel the same way about the hat. My first visit(s) to MGM were B.H. (Before Hat) and it was nice to see the theatre as you walked in. I also thought the Earful Tower was a great icon to the park before it got back-lotted.

I hope they keep the entry way clear. There's plenty of room, apparently, to place the Death Star now that everything else is closing.

I paid for that food, I’m gonna take pictures!

Thursday June 11

I was awake early, as I always am, and I wandered the resort and took lots of pictures in the lobby, the arcade, the food court. I haven’t really posted resort pictures so far in the report or in the All Star Movies FAQ thread. I’m thinking maybe I’ll do that at the end of this report if anyone wants to see them, but I’ll include some of the food court ones in this post.

It was our last day. I wanted to be at Animal Kingdom when it opened at 9, because we didn’t have Fast Passes at AK. If we wanted to get in the E-ticket attractions there, we would have to follow a pretty strict plan for the timing to work out.

But breakfast was not going to be set out by the school until 8 that morning so I was afraid that we would not be able to wait for the food and make rope drop.

I offered to buy our boys breakfast in the food court so that we could get out of there in time for my plan to work.

Here is the message that I sent out to the chaperones in our group at 7:05 am (although I think I had communicated this message the night before)

“Morning team. Breakfast not until 8 from school. I’m willing to buy pastry for all the kids on the way out. OK or too pushy? Bring an extra pair of socks if you are riding Kali River Rapids”

We met over at the World Premier Food Court. I can’t remember if I got something to eat or not. I suspect that when I helped prep breakfast that morning, that I took some fruit and muffins before meeting everyone else.

Let’s see how all that worked out, shall we!

Next Up: Yeti & Yak

What a gracious chaperone you were to offer to buy breakfast for the guys who wanted to go to AK early! I'd have definitely taken you up on that offer because the food looks really good!

That was very kind of you to buy the kids' breakfasts. I would have thought more people would have wanted to get an early start like yourself. 8:00 seems quite late with the number of kids to go through the line. I take the attitude when I'm at Disney that I can sleep when I get home!

We've stayed at All Star Movies before. Even though we only ate at the food court a handful of times, never had any complaints. We had better bus service there than at POR (never again!) and my grandkids loved the giant characters in the Toy Story section. All in all, two very pleasant stays there.

I love that you took pictures of all the food! And I'm going to agree with everyone else - it was really great of you to offer to pay for the boys' food. I hope you guys did make it to rope drop at AK!
