Pop Century Room Renovations

I did the online check in and I called in with room requests. Arriving Feb 1. Will I also get a room confirmation? (I'm Canadian if that matters).
You should receive and email as Disney does not text to non-US phones.

You will want to stop at the front desk if you ordered new MagicBands as they will be waiting for you there.

What is the goon squad thing?

The goon squad is what their family is calling the people that enter their room for the additional security check.

My nickname for the “security” inspectors. Trying to find some humor in what is a sad situation. I’ve been inspected all three days, three different experiences.

We did pass on housekeeping to experience that so maybe why we got it. If I can avoid the intrusion by keeping the housekeeping that will be my choice next trip ... although next trip is actually booked offsite.

First off, we are all adults, we love to close the parks down and we sleep in late. We also are apparently very welcomed by the manager who had a note and chocolates sent to us. But still potential criminals so we got the look over.

Day one, DS2 went to run so we just happened to be up earlier than normal. I was making sandwiches to take to park and both kids were laying on bed. Knock. DS2 got up and cracked the door open. It was an elderly man in housekeeping clothes with a small smart thing in his hand. He started his spiel of "I am here to make sure everyone is safe, you have what you need and the room has no maintenance problems." As he was saying it I walked up and we opened the door wide so he could look in but we made no effort to move and he made no effort to come inside. He said thank you and moved on. This was about 9:30 am.

Day two, DS1 and I were returning early for him to rest/nap and as we approached our door a man walked up. He was difficult to understand and had I not known what was said day before or that this was going on I might have been really uncomfortable. I stepped back from the door (I did not unlock it for him, if he was who he said he could do it). I said fine. He threw the bolt so I could watch in through the crack, he literally walked around, turned on both bathroom lights and looked around, then came out. He pulled door shut, as he shouldn't assume it was my room so that was good. It was absolutely pointless. No good bad guy leaves anything out. We keep our stuff put away, our suitcases closed and nothing in their view. It was about 3:30 pm.

Day three, 9 am the knock at the door. DS2 was in shower so I looked out peep. It was a lady this time, I couldn't see her uniform for a coat. I cracked the door open and she asked me if everything was being maintained okay and did I need anything. I did not open the door wide. I said we were fine, thank you and shut the door. Now we were gone the rest of the day until now so they may have returned.

So 9 am, 9:30 am - both times we are usually in room and 3:30 pm which is prime rest time. None convenient for us. This has zero point whatsoever. I had more comfort since DS2 was with me but often he is not. I don't like this, I feel much more unsafe and not sure what impact it will have on future trips. Following along to see how this plays out.

Wow! I just booked for me and my youngest, spring break. He needs a lot of sleep (catching up on it as he's in college now), and has medical issues. If we're sleeping in (or he is), I plan on putting a sticky note on the door and window saying DO NOT disturb sleeping handicapped person! If we make it a late night, we sleep in (he mostly does) and don't get going until noon the next day.

Is it possible to get the room number for those rooms? TP lists the accessible ones and maybe we can tell that way?

The map at the top of this thread shows what should be all the King rooms regular and King and D/D Accessible rooms. I went back and looked at these rooms and only one is listed as a current Accessible room so am guessing they are simply adding more.

The rooms closest to the bridge are 5103, 5104, 5203, 5204. It is only two rooms on first two floors that have changed. 03 was already a King room but listed as regular king.

The rooms closest to the food court are 5169, 5170 in which 70 was already a King accessible room.

As I said before these flat front rooms are not new, we have talked about them before, so looks like they just added more.

These pictures might be a bit closer, and the last one is building 10 which has flat fronts on all 4 floors.

So the rooms in BLG 5 on the backside closest to lake (not the ones facing the lake) appear to be getting bathroom closets and mattresses delivered. Closets were lined on the sidewalk and saw the guys dragging mattresses along the upper walkways. Seems weird to me as I would want the mattress to go in after the construction is done and rooms cleaned. They are wrapped in plastic but still ... SO they are getting closer.

PS So since I now saw closets fully built before going in will guess all those white pieces I saw other day are the shelves and cubbies around sink area.

Thanks very much HopperFan!

Have a preferred pool view booked in two weeks. Can anyone say if those rooms in either building 4 or 5 are being worked on? Thanks!

Check out post #2 for the most up to date information. As in 2 days ago. :thumbsup2
I am aware of that post. Was hoping for more specific info, possibly from someone staying now, so I have an idea of what to expect for my room location.

The updates in that post ARE from someone who is there right now. :confused3

I am here now and post #2 is mine as is all the posts with photos the last few days.

Building 5 Preferred Pool rooms are close to done but none open yet. I posted pictures of these.

Building 4 Preferred Pool rooms have not been started.

So half not done and half close to done. At this moment that category has no available renovated rooms.

If you can't find the information you're looking for in post 2 then the best we can offer here is to take the time and read back through the last pages of this thread. @HopperFan and I are doing our best to keep post 2 updated but we can't supply every single detail there.

A lot of information and pictures have been posted by HopperFan in the past few days. Please take the time to read back @jenpan and hopefully you will find the answers you're looking for.

Requested refurbished room, 70s lake view. Just got a confirmation of a room in building 2, 50s section Not getting there until 9:00/9:30. Hopefully I will have some luck going to the front desk to ask for a refurbished room. Was really hoping to avoid the front desk and go straight to my room with my sleepy toddler.
Interested to find out how you made out requesting different room upon arrival - hoping for th best
