Seems like that would be enough space to build another hotel.SMH 1.5 acres for this at DLR, where space is at a premium as it is? Disney, please don't. Just don't.

1.5 acres would not be enough for a new hotel unless you built a very skinny and very tall tower.Seems like that would be enough space to build another hotel.

It would have to be a fairly small hotel. I can't imagine Disney building a hotel on 1.5 acres. Disney doesn't do roadside hotels.I'm not talking sprawling Disney resort, but most roadside hotels are built on less space.
I'm not saying they wouldn't be useful or used. In fact, I've said that I would be one to shell out the cash for one of these. Just in my mind, 1.5 acres seems like A LOT of land for this purpose.Capsule and Pod hotels are cropping up at airports and Times Square etc. One with Disney flair inside theme parks isn't much of a stretch IMO.
Threads have made on where to rest or break at the parks. Some because of families with little ones, crabby dad's that hate crowds and some touring with elderly relatives.

Disneyland is already building a new luxury hotel and it ain't on 1.5 acres.Times they are a changin'
Considering DL has like 4 dark rides between the castle and the carousel, and managed to squeeze in a great Indy ride between (a better) Pirates and Jungle Cruise.. (among other examples) I'll cut DL some slack when it comes to their amazing space utilization. When they're using space, like the alleged 1.5 acres they're saving at Disneyland, to install these rather than much-needed attractions, I care very much. Indirect effects are just as valid of criticism as direct ones.

It wouldn't suit my particular needs in MK, but if I were traveling with a family reunion (a market Disney has been stressing more and more) and had elderly/mobility-challenged parents or grandparents or a new baby in the group, I'd see the benefit in having everyone chip in for a cabana. For folks who can't be out in the FL heat all day but DO want to experience Disney, fireworks, parades, etc. at their own pace, this could be a game-changer.
I think it has more to do with Disney going after the elite and not doing things for everyone. Its all about extra expense add ons now rather than things everyone can enjoy for that price of admission. The concept that Disney is 'money grabbing' is kind of funny to me. Isn't the whole place a money grab?
Heck, at least with Vegas, you have chance to get some of your money back.
This isn't a required fee.

The cabana themselves isn't the problem it's the pricing.Agreed, put up 20,000 cabanas, problem solved.
I agree...especially in a place like DLR where space is already at a premium.Just in my mind, 1.5 acres seems like A LOT of land for this purpose.

I disagree. The cabanas are the problem. Seeing one of these things definitely takes away from the show. The idea of these chintzy things around the park makes me think of a flea market setting. I think it's an awful idea from beginning to end. If they truly want to give people the option to book a private space for whatever reason, do it inside a building with air conditioning and a window overlooking the park. I have no personal knowledge of behind the scenes spaces but converting one of those with several smaller rooms with these perks would be a better idea in my opinion. The cabana themselves isn't the problem it's the pricing.
