What are the opinions on adult men wearing jorts (denim jean shorts) ?

I used to wear them, until partner convinced me not to. But I suppose they're still marginally OK. That is, if they're actual purchased jorts, not cut-offs. Something like this is acceptable.

But demin cut-offs? Not no way. Not no how. Totally unacceptable.

There was this 50ish guy wearing the most ridiculous cut-offs. It's obvious he cut them himself, because no woman could ever do such a hatchet job. One leg was about 4 inches above his knee and relatively straight. The other leg was about 3 inches higher, cut on an acute sloping angle. He was also sporting the same 1970s style haircut, long over the ears, that he wore as a teen. It's obvious he was single, because no woman (or male partner) would tolerate cut-offs and hair like he had.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

And what's with these guys in their late 50s, 60s, or above who are wearing the same short swim trunks they bought in the 1980s? I know swim trunks and shorts have been getting shorter in the past few years, but it's obvious these guys dig out the same vintage pair once a year to wear to the beach. No amount of nagging from their wives can convince them to update. I'm surprised the elastic around the waist still functions.

Well, I suppose they're not as bad as many of the current shorter bathing suit styles. Any male even considering wearing the majority of these new styles never had a Man Card to begin with.

And some men, regardless of age, who wear the proper knee length bathing suits, sometimes pull up the leg fabric while sitting or laying down in an futile attempt to get their thighs tanned. Instead, they end up looking like this Neapolitan Ice Cream Boy.

Asked DSO , can't print his actual comment but in DIS speak "WTHeck. Not if I was 90"

He only wears the khaki shorts in everyday life or board shorts at the beach

I guess I never thought about them. None of the guys in my life wear them, DS made everyone get rid of cargo shorts a few years ago, so I know he would have gotten rid of the jorts.

They are acceptable on my dad. He's 72 and rocks those jorts. On anyone else, not so much. BTW, I hate the fad of shorter shorts on men. I have nightmares about those corduroy shorts guys used to wear in the 80's, I think they were OP.

Not sure why I think it's okay for women to wear jean shorts. I even have some.

I can't even comment on the length because I can't get past how low they sit on the waist!

I cannot understand why the big deal about jean shorts on men. Men why jeans..why not jean shorts? And I happen to love the newer shorter swim trunks. Especially if a man has great legs. Those models above look wonderful. I don't get why any man would want to wear swim trunks down around their knees. That looks weird and seems like all that wet fabric would be very uncomfortable.

I don't mind the shorter swim trunks. Especially if the man has a body like those shown in the OPs post. :magnify: I'd watch that all day. And even if the guy can't see his feet because his six pack has morphed into a beer belly, he'd still look better in a pair of those than a speedo! :crazy2:

As for jorts, I'm not a fan, and while DH does have a ratty pair of cutoffs that he'll wear while working in the yard or washing the car, he'd never wear them in public, nor would he buy jorts. His are khaki or black and knee length(ish).

Well my DH wears them about 1/3 of the time,)the kind that have pockets like painters pants sort of?the rest he wears cargo's. Especially if working on the car/yard etc. Well thankyou DIS, for pointing out another flaw in my family lol. If it's comfy, it's acceptable to us.

No man under like 40, maybe even 45, wears jorts. I think my dad still wears them; since he's about 70 I give him a pass. I don't care for jorts on women either, although they are more widely accepted than on men.

I won't comment on short swim trunks because a lot of that is cultural, the things men wear in Europe and Asia are not worn here (including capris).

I like jorts, but Im old , and even with that im a bit sub conscious cause I know of all the hate for them
