Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

After seeing the announcement that Halloween time starts on September 11 this year I'm really hoping we start to see some of the Halloween decor go up during the race weekend. I love Halloween time at Disneyland!

I'm not a fan of Halloween. I'd rather not have any Halloween décor to detract from the 60th. However, I wouldn't be surprised if we start to see bits and pieces by the Monday. We were there in lead up to and beginning of Halloween time last year, and they started decorating a few days before the official start.

Well week#11 done! Did my 4 miler this morning wind off the water in gusts this morning, it was like hitting a wall every so often. Started out cold with that west wind but warmed up quick. Really good resistance training on a push run! Mother nature challenged me this morning fighting that wind going out, but wind pushed us home but that's when heat kicked in. Stopped and got my Starbucks after run my celebrating coffee. Popped up stairs to shower then off to spin class. My instructor is going to be away for 2 weeks she is going to BMX Worlds in Belgium. She is representing Canada but she is racing against the 30 year olds she is 50. Only if we could such some energy out of those youngsters! So I really wanted to go to her last class. She pushed me hard speed with resistance , oh boy ! She taught her class and was jumping on her plane to France. She said she what'd to make herself tried so she could sleep on her flight. I am in the lazy boy feet up I'm done! Pooped! Legs are like Jelly! Tomorrow will be better just taking the running group out for light easy run 4 x 10 and 1's nice visit and that reward coffee. Hope everyone's training is going well and you are wearing a smile for the mile.

I'm totally geeking out over my new used (from ebay) Garmin 620 watch. Had my first outside run with it in Houston - at 5:30pm!!! In 93 degrees!!! I only did 4 miles today and my time kind of sucked at 33:00 minutes, but the watch rocks. I only did the 4 miles because the trail was that short, but even if it was longer I don't think I would have made it - I was laboring at that pace in the heat. I'm hoping the early morning Disney runs won't be as hot because I can't imagine reaching any good times if it is.

So, for anyone that has this watch - what can I do to bring down my vertical oscillations? I'm too bouncy, bouncy!!! My cadence is good at 171 per minute, ground contact at 180ms and VO2 Max is average at 46 - I think some of it was the heat so I'll have to run early in the morning in the next couple of weeks to see how much it is different. Usually 4 miles is no problem but today it was tiring (though I did have about 4 days off between runs so that could be it too).

How's training going?

Have waited to respond to this one hoping I would have something to report. No running since July 1st.
Sadly I can only report that I am under strict doctor orders to R-E-S-T and not run.
But I will make it DL and run those races, whatever shape I might be in.

Hopefully everyone else is faring better.

Dislike that you have to rest but LIKE that you're still determined to get to those races!!

Yep, Goofy 10 spinner this year! :)

I'm finally back home for a good two weeks, so it's time to get serious and finish up my costumes!

I bought this fabric today to layer over black confetti dot knit for my World of Color skirt. What do y'all think?

Me too! It's slow at work and I keep refreshing the Disney parks blog and twitter hoping for pics and new stories.

Rest is sometimes good, so don't worry! You still have August to get back out there and DL and the medals will be waiting! :goodvibes

@Keels I think that looks great!!

I'm getting crafty over here too for my outfit...I'm pretty sure my husband thinks I've lost my mind. :teeth: I'll post pics when I'm done!

Can't wait to see it! I love being crafty - my husband hates it because it means our dining room is in a perpetual state of "messy" while I'm working on projects, but it's just so fun to me.

Once my last shipment of HTV gets here, I can start cutting out the iron-ons for my shirts and then I'm done!

Well, at least for Disneyland. I bought stuff for W&D today as well, so I'll probably knock that out this weekend too.

Okay...here's where I'm at with my outfit for the half.

Excuse the awful lighting/quality of these pics. My project for today was tryig to find something for the "belt." I'm not bothering with the blue around the neck and shoulders, and the stones around the neck area. Just the belt. I dragged Mr. Ariel484 around Michael's for about 20 minutes today (he was a good sport), and this is what I came out with: blue tulle, a white piece of crafting foam and some stick-on rhinestones. I was hoping to spend about $10 and this came out to $13. I ran out of the smaller-sized rhinestones so I'll have to go back for another sheet, so it'll be about $15 when all is said and done.

Traced around the foam with a coffee cup, cut that out and colored it with a silver Sharpie...

Glued on stones with Gorilla Super Glue, ran out of stones, tried not to pass out from fumes...shall we take bets on how many stones are actually left on this thing after 13.1 miles?! :teeth:

This is where I'm at right now. Still not sure how to actually attach the stone/foam part to the tulle "belt." And I'm sure that won't be a pain to run with at all... *sarcasm.* Thinking that I'll attach it to the shirt either with safety pins, or I'll hand-stitch it on. The belt will NOT be getting attached to the skirt, because the skirt was way more money than the shirt and I don't want to ruin in. The colors look totally whacked out because the lighting made it overly yellow and I tried to correct it in my phone, and it went poorly...but you get the idea. Visor is from Sparkle Athletic, shirt is from Under Armor, and the skirt is SparkleSkirts (natch) in ShockingRed. The shirt and skirt actually match pretty well.

I just realized I have this sparkly red bow left over from the one pair of Minnie ears that I own...trying to think of a way to attach it to the visor without actually ruining the visor and I can't come up with anything. I may just skip it and go with the visor itself.

So this is where I'm at right now! I'm sort of proud of myself...this is the most effort I've ever put into a race outfit. :)

And assuming USPS tracking is correct, I should have an update for my 5K outfit tomorrow. Which I am putting way less effort into. :)

@Ariel484 -- looking GREAT!

As for the bow-on-visor dilemma ... maybe attach the bow to a flat-back safety pin like this:

And then pin it to the visor?

Nah I'm good. I haven't seen any of the pictures yet, but it would be so crowded today. I'd rather wait and enjoy race weekend!

Sorry to hear that. I agree though that rest can really be good for you sometimes. And your determination will get you through :thumbsup2

I did this for a couple of things last year. In fact, I pretty much had exactly the same thing as you - except it was a black bow on a blue Sparkle Athletic visor. I also used it to attach Dad's rabbit ears to his hat. It worked perfectly for both! It could also work for your 'belt buckle'.

To attach the clips to the bow, I glued it, then 'sewed' it (basically just wound the cotton around the clip and through the holes so that it was stable), then glued it again lol! I wanted it to be attached nice and securely.

What are your W&D outfits Keels?

I've just thought up for the half right now (that's the only race we're doing that weekend), and I'm deciding to style my race outfit after my favorite EPCOT activity - Drinking Around the World!

I'm going to go with a silver sequin running skirt and then a white top - on the front, I just finished making these images of all the flags of the countries and arrange them in a circle representative of the World Showcase.

Screen shot 2015-07-17 at 6.40.44 PM.png

On the back, it will say either "World Showcase Drinking Team" or "Wine & Dine Drinking Team" and then the number 15 (like a baseball/sports jersey), and I'll have a C for captain on the sleeve.

We're doing the Christmas Party on the night after the half, so I'd like for us to wear all three medals and get our picture with Santa Mickey for our Christmas card this year, but I'll have to find a way to "dress" my husband so the picture doesn't look too busy. He's not going to be real thrilled with that, but I've got time to work on it.

My sister and her kids are there so I've gotten some photos texted all day which is cool, kind of like being there without the crazy crowds. Seeing stuff though has made me more excited for Race weekend and only my 2nd visit to Disneyland (last time was 8 years ago).
