10 NIGHTS RPR...MARDI GRAS & COCKTAILS....MARCH 2018 TRIP

Oh, and I have to tell you, once one of my friends, who is a hypochondriac, made me take her to the hospital in the middle of the night. I told her what it was. Then, the hospital did. She argued and argued. But, they can hurt SO badly. I've only had them twice, but I wanted to go psycho (back to the T-shirt!) when it happened!

Your pictures are great and Sapphire Falls is a beautiful resort. We did manage to stay for 3 nights last March in combination with staying at RPR. It was a last minute trip and RPR didn't have enough space for our entire week so we did a split stay. It was really nice, from the rooms to the restaurants to the staff and loved the pool area. We were lucky to have our express passes from RPR overlap to our first day of check in at Sapphire. Then we had two days without express. We knew we would be without express, so enjoyed the resort and lounged around a bit more. We do get spoiled at RPR.

I spelled it wrong: Charley Horse. https://www.healthline.com/health/charley-horse Also known as dead leg... have you heard that term?

Have heard of dead leg........but we call that something different........just can’t think of the name!

She went to the hospital with that.......... you are a good friend!!! I’m a total hypochondriac but painful as it is, would never dream of going to hospital........oh yeah, agony!!

That’s what we plan to do Holly, is do not very much!!

We really do like Sapphire Falls........and glad you had such a good trip there too........

Hopefully travel day will be up tomorrow, or Sunday at the latest..........:wave2:

Muscle cramps aka Charley Horse hurt something terrible!! They are usually caused caused by dehydration or a lack of potassium. I have told many a former athlete or student to drink plenty of water and eat bananas to help with them. It's definitely no fun to wake up with one in the middle of the night!! :crutches:

Yep, I can’t eat bananas, but I do eat sweet potatoes by the ton as they are better for potassium than bananas.......but being on holiday we eat different (code for unhealthy ::yes::)........

But yes, they are painful........:scared1:

Carole,

I just LOVE your trip reports. You are such a positive, wonderful person and I love reading about all the fun that you, Tom, and Kyle get up to. I especially love how you write about Kyle. You are a great mom! As the mom of one boy, you are an inspiration! Keep up the good work. I'll be reading in May. Can't wait to see what you think of Sapphire Falls!

Hey squirlz.......

They haven’t announced what’s going in there yet, but they do know what it is :thumbsup2

It’ll be nice to see that area in use again, seems sad to see it so empty.

Hmmm that’s rather cryptic lol. Looking forward to the reveal. Would love to see a nice chop/steak house, nothing too trendy, but not going to hold my breath since the Palms is already in place at HRH.

I’m so glad you enjoyed reading along and yes, we are already fond of Sapphire.......so looking forward to staying there a lot.........

Again, thanks for the lovely comments.......:wave2:

As a seafood fan, I would love to see a decent seafood place open........would fit in with the South Pacific feel of the hotel........but of course I have no clue what it will be.......

Yes, I think the Palm would be hard to beat for steaks on-site :thumbsup2

Theming is strong for the various onsite resorts’ dining options, will be interesting to see if they go with a brand but they need a draw/strong TS to round out their options.

SATURDAY MARCH 24TH.........

So the final day had come around again.

We awoke early as always and very slowly began the day today........it`s funny, we do look forward to getting home to see Kyle, that is the fun part of going home, but we do feel incredible sadness just leaving this beautiful place. It is never fun to do that.

We went up for breakfast after we had showered and got ready, and it was so busy this morning......every table seemed to be busy, but there is always space on the sofas if need be. But, a few were leaving as we went in so we did get a table easy enough. We took our time and enjoyed our food here........had some fruit as it looked so lovely.......and it was. There really is a good selection for breakfast......surely there really is something for everyone.......

We had said goodbye to some of the gang, but one wasn't coming in till later this morning, so we said we would pop back up once we were all packed up as we wanted to see him.

We went back down and began the slow pack......we really were in no rush this morning........I checked my emails and we had one form our frined who we hadn't seen yet this trip, and he sadly said he was going to be busy when we checked out, he usually tried to be there at that time. We said, of course we understood as he is incredibly busy, and we would be in Jake`s around midday if he was passing. So, we hoped we would see him as he is a very special person.

So, packing was actually easier than I thought......and we gave them a weigh with the portable scale we had (thanks macraven) and we seemed to be under the 32kg weight allowance for each case.......just!!! And I didn't think we had bought as much this time......we hadn't bought our usual 8 bottles of Aussie shampoo and conditioner to start with as I had some unopened at home still......but, the cases were certainly full.

At that point we went back up to the lounge. We are very lucky we always have our Club time automatically extended as late as we need it. Some visits we leave the hotel around 4pm at the latest, depends on who our flight is with, but today we were leaving at 2pm. But, we are grateful they always extend us this courtesy.

We walked in and we were very happy to see Andy back at work and looking so much better than he had done the last day we saw him.......it was a real pleasure to see him and I was glad we got to see him before we leave........after a hug I said I wanted to hand this in to them.......he mistakenly thought I had found something and wanted it taken to lost and found.......it was a big bag full of chocolate and goodies for the team to enjoy.........lol.....he was delighted.......as were the entire team as they love British chocolate........and just an extra little thank you.

I love seeing the evolving Aventura Resort and of course Sapphire with it`s pretty colours......

i-H87bZTQ-XL.jpg

i-7QrKBq8-XL.jpg

And you can even see the balloon at Downtown Disney.........it was a little misty today, but you can see it quite clearly usually.......

The building to the right of the picture is Drury Inn and Suites which sits on the junction of Sand Lake Road and Turkey Lake Road.......this is how close it is for anyone considering staying there......it consistently gets excellent reviews for quality and service. And is very close to Universal Orlando, very handy.

i-qnVvHmm-XL.jpg

We had a good little chat and enjoyed a coffee before we were heading down for lunch.........we do say goodbye to Andy now as although we can come back up, he may not be here today......so we have a hug and tell him to look after himself........and to enjoy plenty of chocolates.......again, for knowing him such a short space of time, we have got attached to him and many of the others too. They are a lovely team.

We go to Jakes and it`s almost 12.........

i-WXZxmPD-XL.jpg

There are a few tables already filled but it`s fairly quiet .......we order strawberry lemonades as they are so good here. It`s about now we realise we haven't ordered a non alcoholic strawberry daiquiri in Kyle`s honour this trip........nor did Tom have Linda`s Chocolate Fudge cake either...........we would have to rectify that next trip.........

i-4zcTK2W-XL.jpg

We actually have no clue what we want today........travel day is not very exciting, so it`s hard to muster any enthusiasm for food.......but, we do manage.......lol.......the food in Jake`s is always excellent........and although we know the menu inside out and back to front, we still have to decide........

Tom goes for the Reuben sandwich, and I rather strangely opt for the Bomber Burger, no cheese and no onion and with a side of jalapenos.........I also choose sweet potato fries.........after we order we chat and muse about our trip and upcoming journey home........and very soon the food appears.........

i-2Z9BV3w-XL.jpg

i-hB8HPzG-XL.jpg

I politely ask for sweet potato fries.......I wasn't sure he had heard me at the time, so I should have checked.........anyway, few moments later he brought out a sizzling hot plate of sweet potato fries.......I`m always surprised Tom doesn't really like these........

i-dtP3Gtf-XL.jpg

Everything was beautiful. I had thought my burger had been overcooked, but it was medium and very juicy........I don't eat the bun usually, but I did enjoy a little of this one..........and Tom`s sandwich was perfect.......he had never had one of these before, but really enjoyed it and unsurprisingly cleared his plate, except for a few fries and a little bread left.

We had thoroughly enjoyed our lunch........

So, we paid the check and headed back up to lounge where we sat for a while and saw a couple of other TM who immediately thanked us for the chocolate!!! No problems........

But, eventually it was time to go. Our flight was due to take off at around 8pm tonight, but we had to get the rental car back before 3pm. We could always pass time at the airport anyway..........we like Orlando Airport.......I know some don't, but we find it quite a fun place to be despite the reason we are there today.........

We pick up our suitcases and head out and see our lovely housekeeper.......we wish her well and she hopes to see us again soon, she is a nice lady.

We have a wander around Orchids area as there is no one here which is rather unusual..........it is so peaceful during the day, you can usually see someone either working at a laptop, or just sprawling around relaxing waiting to leave........

i-rXwkfx2-XL.jpg

i-DgHtHhP-XL.jpg

i-GwvJRcN-XL.jpg

i-8JJRnQp-XL.jpg

Through to checkout, looked for our guy Bryson who used to work Club Lounge had asked to make sure he checked us out.......another lovely young man who will do well in the future........so we made sure it was indeed him.........we do always go to the desk to check out.......you don't have to though.......but we do like to say goodbye. We ask him to pass a message on to our friend when he returned that we were so sorry to have missed him, but I`d email him when we got home.......he said he would. So another round of goodbyes and we sadly made the walk of shame out those doors.........and rather annoyingly.......it was boiling hot!!!!! We did laugh at how much we loved this weather and it had to appear on our final day.........we really couldn't complain as it had been lovely.......just not 95F every day!!!

We load the car easily and set off on the drive of shame and seemingly going the wrong way..........we head down to Universal Boulevard past the Orlando Eye and it doesn't take long to get to the airport from here. There are no issues with traffic and we are there in no time at all, sadly...........

There is no line to the car return area, and we drive in easily.......Alamo are waiting and do the usual scan......and give us a receipt for zero.......that's what we like to see........unlike our escapades with Dollar a few years back. Won`t use them again........

We amble our way over to the terminal trying to elongate this journey too a little.......

Straight up the Virgin Atlantic check in desks.......we are a little early, but they are open.......and as we approach a guy who has worked there for years tells us to go right ahead........we have booked Premium Economy coming home, but I believe we are downstairs........the guy checking us in asks us if we would prefer the bubble upstairs......I had just been about to ask if any seats were available up there to swap them.......so we were delighted........and by a good twist of fate, we had the same seats we had enjoyed on the way out........so we were very happy........Our bags were fine weight wise too, so we had no extra to pay, although I do believe Virgin can be a little lenient if you are just a little over. The staff here are incredibly nice.......they are always so cheerful and very friendly........

So, we go to head through to the food court area.......not that we are hungry, but we like to sit there and pass the time, visit a few shops and have a cold drink........I stopped and sat on a bench to check if Kyle had emailed or left a Skype message.......so once wifi was connected......I got a message from our friend at the hotel asking if we had already gone through security........I replied no we wouldn't be going through till 5.30........and I was gobsmacked when he said he wanted to drive out to the airport to say Goodbye to us!!!! Honestly......I was stunned that this guy was going to do that for us...........without going into the whole thing, he did indeed drive out and met us at the food court. He brought his lovely assistant with him too, she is just the nicest lady too.........but I was still blown away how special this man makes us feel.......he is just the nicest man on earth and always makes us feel like we are the most important people on the planet.......I almost hugged the life out of him though......how special did we feel today............someone asked me who he is and what he does, but out of respect for him I won`t mention it.

We did sit till around 5.30 and chatted and laughed and I got to tell him the story of meeting the CEO.......he knows him and said he would have loved I didn't know have a clue who he was........I did reiterate how embarrassed I was to not know who he was and to complain Voodoo wasn`t open......lol......I think the guy has a definite sense of humour though.

So, finally we said our goodbyes to who can only be described as the nicest man on earth........we thanked him profusely for everything he does for us again and again........and I was still stunned he was here..........I think we spoke about nothing else for hours!!! And weeks afterwards........

But, we left and headed to security checks.........we had TSA precheck, so no taking our shoes off or laptops out......this is much quicker......

We get on the monorail and make the last sad journey down to the hub that we would depart from........it wasn't overly busy today........when we got off we saw that a Bahama Breeze is going to be opening here.......they already have an Outback Steakhouse, which I believe serves a limited menu, but this was another addition.........

We nip into duty free and pick up a few rums we like and then go down to wait......although as we had enjoyed such a nice chat with our friend, we were happy we had practically no time to wait.........I skyped a message to Kyle that we couldn't wait to see him tomorrow.......then before we knew it, we were boarding.........as we were Premium we are on first, but we do notice the plane doesn't look overly busy.....which is unusual as we are used to seeing planes filled to the brim with people.

Tom collects the duty free and we head on to the plane, straight upstairs and down to the front of the plane again.........

Tom loads the stuff into the overhead bins and I load some stuff into the storage bins to the side of me.......this is ideal for keeping things handy you will need during the flight........I had my pillow, noise cancelling headphones and so much more........

We are handed a glass of bubbly each as we sit down..........and again I admire the leg room we have here........

i-J62GMqX-XL.jpg

i-j8XvtHr-XL.jpg

This smaller cabin is nice.......it can be quieter if you have quiet folks in it of course........we see two younger children with parents but for the most part, its folks our age and older than us........

i-P5vTqW2-XL.jpg

After the bubbly we get our seatbelts on and before we can blink we are starting to push back.........this was 7.45, so we would make good time.......for the first time there were hardly any planes taking off before us or around us.......usually we are in a queue.....but, we enjoyed a very nice and smooth take off once again........the engines on the jumbo are a sound to hear.......you can feel the power as you are propelled along the runway and then the smoothest of take offs is always something to appreciate.........I am always terrified on take off but love it at the same time........

And we glance out the window to see Orlando disappear below us for this trip........

Cabin Crew are round with drinks and snacks almost immediately........I opt for my usual white wine.......

i-qGH6Hmg-XL.jpg

I think Tom chose a beer.......and we settled down into our very comfortable seats and awaited food service.........I didn't bother with the tv screen this journey as I had no intention of watching anything, so I looked out the window while Tom put the skymap to see our journey.....it looked like we were heading straight across the Atlantic tonight........we usually hugged the Eastern seaboard but for whatever reason the path could change.......usually avoiding weather.

We went directly over Kennedy before hitting the long and dark journey across the Atlantic ocean........and it was already getting dark........and next thing they are asking what food we would like........

I had glanced at the menu and forgot what the choices were, so she very nicely reminded us........I went for the pulled pork in bbq sauce with mustard mash, sweetcorn and roasted pepper and Tom opted for chicken in a pesto cream sauce with red potato, brocollini and cherry tomatoes..........there`s a bread roll too and with cheese and crackers, a nice salad to start with too.......followed by a chocolate chip pecan tart........and you do get a bottle of wine with your meal, the smaller size, not a full bottle.........and Tom gave me his wine as he was driving in the morning........and I have to say the food is really nice......

i-L92BWxQ-XL.jpg

i-4LVwSTC-XL.jpg

Tom`s meal is a little blurry as we had hit a little turbulence again........so it was interesting to try and eat while rumbling around.......but, we managed......it lasted around 40 minutes, but turbulence doesn't bother us at all.........

And it really was all very nice.......and I did enjoy the extra wine as I hoped it would help me sleep all the way across.........we both turned down the after dinner liqueur........but I just wanted to sleep now.......they are very generous with the alcohol I have to say, and thankfully in all our flights we have never encountered any bad behavior due to alcohol at all...........

So, I looked behind me and the couple behind us had fully reclined their seats, so I would happily recline mine now.......I got out my pillow, headphones and the blanket they give you and wrapped myself up in it........and eye mask too.......then I realized I hadn't visited the bathroom........doh........so got unwrapped from my cocoon and went........came back and got myself into the same position just as they dimmed the cabin lights........perfect..........

The cabin was very quiet.......the occasional cry from one of the children disturbed us a few times, but basically we slept like logs for hours......although I did wake up and felt like I was on fire........it was boiling hot, so I didn't need the blanket cocooned around me like I had done.........but having the legroom and being able to put feet up the side area was good too as you could get really comfy........

I awoke once and looked out and marveled at how clear the sky was at 40,000 feet.......Kyle would have loved seeing all these constellations you could see ultra clear.........I did try to remember some to tell him, but I was half asleep.........

Eventually around 90 minutes from landing at Manchester Airport, the cabin lights came up and I emerged from my slumber to Tom smiling I had slept well.......he had slept too, but more on and off.........

Now they were coming round with breakfast.......usually we buy a muffin and have that, but this looked ok......it was an almond croissant and fresh fruit, with yoghurt and tea or coffee........again the picture is very blurry.........but it was nice and edible.

And watching the sunrise was very pretty.......but not so much when the Captain announced how cold it was on the ground........it was in the minus so we knew we were going to be cold.

i-mH5WSBd-XL.jpg

Seeing Ireland as we passed over it was another sign we were close to land.

i-2LF9xn4-XL.jpg

We were settling down to the final 15 or 20 minutes or so and we saw on the land below we were coming in from a very unusual angle.......and then we saw we were circling the city.......we had never done that before........it was different........but we could also see there was a huge amount of fog around the airport and it looked very frosty.

We then saw we were coming in the opposite way......we usually landed with the Radisson to our left......this morning it was to our right.....we did wonder why.

We did however land a very nice landing......anytime you land safe is a good one though.........and we had that fantastic feeling of those tremendous brakes going on and your body trying to move the wrong way..........

We then had to sit for over 20 minutes before we could get to the terminal........it turns out due to heavy fog, one runway had been closed, so everyone was waiting patiently for a plane to take off carefully before our plane and all others that had landed could safely make it across the runway to go to it`s stand.

But, we made it........and once engines are off and seatbelt sign is off we get our things together and get ready to get off........we thank Cabin Crew for taking such good care of us........and head down to passport control again.........this doesn't take long.......and we head through to wait on our luggage.........one of the CC had mentioned the plane was less than half full......so hopefully that meant not too long a wait for luggage.

You would think.

5 suitcases came through almost immediately and one very happy man claimed them all as his families and left with the biggest smile.......how lucky.......and then we waited some more, and then some more........a few did come out then it stopped again........another wait till eventually we saw both of ours emerge. Retrieved them and then headed out to the elevator to then walk across the skywalk to the Radisson where we were planning on having breakfast and then get the car.

Breakfast was lovely........there is a full buffet selection with hot and cold dishes.......we really only fancied toast and bacon......but with a massive pot of British Tea.........one of the few things we miss from the UK......and it was all delicious.......there was smoked salmon, cooked salmon and some continental meat, cheese, cereals and all the usual cooked items.......we were only interested in toast and bacon here.....so we did take rather a bundle of slices to enjoy with toast..........

We also text Kyle to let him know we were safe and well and would be leaving the airport hotel within about 10 minutes........he said he was waiting to hear from us before going out......so we said we`d call when we were close and to have the kettle on........

We paid and went through to the desk to retrieve our keys from the hotel........this is so easy........the car is always waiting for us and this morning of course it was in the furthest area of the car park away from the hotel exit........and it was cold........freezing!!!!

Our hoodies were pulled up around us and we walked the relatively short walk, it just felt longer.........and the car was there.

Got it loaded up and set off.........as it was Sunday the roads were fairly quiet around the city, but there was still a lot more traffic than we thought there would be. But, almost 3 hours later we were home......and the sun was shining all the way.........

Kyle came out as soon as he saw the car come up the driveway.........I almost propelled myself towards him for a giant hug........this is the best bit of us returning ever........we do miss him when he`s not with us........and I`m not ashamed to admit I always fill up when I see him......and he was glad to see us too..........and again, the house was immaculate when we got in........albeit maybe a little dusting was needing doing lol..............but he had done great as always........

We dropped the bags in utility room and went through and enjoyed another cup of tea Kyle made and a good chat........although we Skyped a lot, we still had things to catch up on........and we really did........till eventually our eyes were going together........we always have a couple of hours sleep when we get home......force ourselves to get up around 4 or 5pm and try to stay awake till 10.30-11pm.......that way we get back to normal quicker and avoid awful jetlag.......

We did manage to do that, and enjoyed Chinese Takeout for dinner............

But we were home............

FINAL THOUGHTS........(short)

What a sensational trip.

We had enjoyed so many lovely experiences this trip.....our night before at the Radisson, our lovely upgraded flight and of course the RPR..........

We truly are blessed here and are made to feel so special........as are all guests of course.......the staff here are wonderful and knowing so many of them is extra special when you get that recognition.

Hotel is always immaculate and beautifully kept, so it`s a real pleasure just to be there.

Parks were so much fun!!!! Mardi Gras was quite low key.....but the parade was a huge amount of fun and we can`t wait to do it again next year........there were higher crowds than we are used to, but again with EP this wasn't an issue.

Restaurants were lovely......the ones we went to we so enjoyed.......

So, our trip was everything we hoped it would be.........

We do plan next year to go back to Mardi Gras again around the same time.........although the weather wasn't the usual 95F plus we are used to, it was lovely and we quite enjoyed the cooer days.......not so much early morning though!!!

So, thank you all once again for reading along and I appreciate each and every one of your comments........it is so nice to not be talking to myself.........I do try and finish it fairly quickly which can be difficult as I have been known to ramble on a bit......quite a bit actually.......

I do hope you enjoyed reading it and hope to see you all again sometime soon..........

:wave2:

Theming is strong for the various onsite resorts’ dining options, will be interesting to see if they go with a brand but they need a draw/strong TS to round out their options.

Yes, they do need to do that........

Here`s hoping it`s a good addition........

I'm sad to see another fabulous report end! I know I have said it before, but your trip reports are so enjoyable to read. I love hearing all the special surprises you encounter along the way. Looking forward to the next one.

It’s always sad for me when the trip reports end
It is a thread I go to first to read in the morning

But there always is another trip
in the making for you, so I know a new trip report will be posted sooner or later

Such a joy with your style of writing when you share your and Tom’s lives with us

Great trip Carole! I don't get (too) sad anymore at the end of a trip- I have too much to do to plan the next one!!

Not long now for your next one!

Thanks Patty........

We have so many friends there though and folks we have known for many years, so we do miss them.....but it is better knowing it’s not just once a year........

I’m glad you enjoyed it though, thanks for the lovely comments.........
