Complimentary Night only for Wishes?

I just noticed that the DFTW site now lists a complimentary night under the Wishes wedding category, and that it now only requires a 10-night stay to earn it, rather than 25. However, there's nothing like that listed under the Escape category. Is this perk only available to Wishes couples now? Maybe you can answer this, @lurkyloo?

DFTW reduced the number of nights required to get a free night a couple years ago. Anybody who sets up a room block and fills 10 nights receives a free night—it doesn't matter what type of wedding you have. But since Escape has its own 4-night minimum stay requirement, DFTW doesn't really talk about the room block with Escape couples. But you can totally set one up as long as you'll have at least 10 nights.

We discussed this with our wedding coordinator who checked with our sales consultant, and she told us that in order to set up the reservations as a room block that we and our guests would all need to cancel all of our current reservations and re-book them under the room block, rather than being able to just apply the already-booked reservations to a room block. This seemed like too much of a hassle, especially since all the reservations were already booked under various discounts including the summer room discounts and passholder deals, so we won't be doing it. It's no loss to us since we hadn't planned for it anyway, but too bad we won't be able to take advantage of the complimentary night!

That doesn't seem right. You should be able to set up a room block even if no one books the rooms included in the actual block. They don't even need to be staying at the hotels you block. Once it's set up, you should be able to send all the confirmation numbers people already have booked. We set up a room block but only 2 or 3 rooms were actually booked through it. Every single other reservation was DVC or booked under another discount and I sent in reservation numbers and they were manually added.

@lurkyloo tagging Carrie who is the expert and would know if something has changed. My wedding was last October.

I haven't heard of any policy change. It could be because yours are Escape coordinators they aren't as familiar with the way room blocks work.

I may keep looking into it then. I knew I'd heard of brides being able to send in the reservation numbers and have them applied to their room blocks.

I'm an Escape bride in 2015 who had a room block and had exactly 0 rooms booked through the block but got the free night. Hubby and I alone stayed 24 nights total booked with our AP discount, plus my in-laws for 8 nights through DVC and my sister for 7(?) nights booked with a summer discount. Hopefully the rules haven't changed but it was definitely how we did ours back then. I'd hate to think they'd change that too.
