No park trip?

Yes! I can't say they were super entertained but our DD5 and DS2 went, no problem

Thanks! My kids are older and enjoy "unique things" as far as food goes. I will add this to my list :) Any chance you remember any of the offerings?

We just got back from two weeks at Disney, 5 days st Bay Lake and the rest of the time st old key west. We didn't even consider going to parks. Pool time, movies at Disney springs, bowling st Disney springs, great dinners out while we were at bay lake and it was a little chilly. Saw the fireworks twice while there. Then at old key west, when my husband joined us, the weather was great. We played tennis every morning, shuffleboard, my two disabled adult girls love the community center and pool games every day. We ate in a couple of nights, drove over to wilderness to artist point for dinner and went to Disney springs several times for dinner. On our last day, which was the only rain we saw, we saw beauty and the beast and then went to la nouba. My husband went to a couple spring training baseball games in the area. I could never go to parks and would be happy but we usually do go at least once a year. Try to get three parks in a day when we do go so we only have to go one day.

Love this... was going to ask about things to do! We are going in Oct and doing 3 different resorts to use up points we needed for DVC ... and not doing parks ... we were all over in NOV and we all agreed it would be nice to relax and not rush to the park to feel like we used the ticket enough... swimming... relaxing... love the new ideas!

My DH and I are doing this in June for a couple only trip. We are staying at BC and going house hunting during the days. We have a few breakfast ADRs and dinner ADRs all at restaurants outside the parks at places we haven't eaten before, primarily restaurants at or around BC. My birthday is the last day of our trip and we are planning on going to Disney Springs, resort hopping to get a drink in a few of the monorail resorts, and then we have ADRs for Yachtsman's. It's great because we made breakfast ADRs for much later than we normally would if we were going to the parks so we can sleep in!!

We are also staying one night at POR in a Royal Guest Room with our 15 year old son son after we pick him up in Tampa after a summer ballet intensive the night before we fly home to Texas. We are doing dinner at Boma and breakfast at Chef Mickey.

I love some of these ideas! I have been trying to figure out what to do too. We just did our 1st Disney trip last October and while I absolutely loved it we were at the parks from before opening to close and we wore ourselves out. We are doing a cruise this June and I had a couple extra days before boarding. I was looking at hotels and found ASM for a decent price so I booked that for the two nights and figured we'd resort hop, do Disney springs and possibly even hit up city walk. As much as I want to spend a day at Magic Kingdom I am trying to keep the cost low for this vacation. So anything we can do that's free or relatively inexpensive is the best!

Yes! We've done it twice and it was the same both times. Soup and a zebra dome in Boma and the taste of Africa dips and breads at Jiko. I would suggest to bring something to drink.

We do non park trips all the time. We love the YC and the pool at the resort is amazing. I'm sure there are cheaper hotels in other areas that are just as nice and I'm sure less expensive. However, there are so many other things to do on Disney property that justify the price I pay for the hotel. I can park my car at the resort and I do not have to drive anywhere the entire week. We can rent boats, play mini golf, hang out at Disney Springs and relax. We can watch the fireworks at Epcot from the boardwalk. I personally don't feel purchasing a ticket to the parks is worth the price. We love Disney and the service they provide, in the 20 years we have been traveling there any issues we have are always taken care of.

I personally would not want to stay at a resort off site, even if comparable to the YC. It would require us to get in the car and battle traffic on I4 or I drive.

This is exactly what I'm proposing to my family for next year. We've been to WDW 3 of the past 4 years, we can only go at the start of March as both me and my wife work at a school. This year's crowds really got to me and I didn't enjoy the parks as much. But I did love being able to be in the Disney bubble and go eat at the Disney restaurants in the other resorts and at Disney Springs. I'm looking into renting DVC at AKL. We would then be able to use the Disney transportation, as I'm not willing to rent a car and drive. Will I miss Splash and Haunted Mansion, probably, but I think we'll still have a fun Disney trip without.

Exactly! We fly in and take the magical express so that we don't have to drive at all!! I looked at resorts offsite and yes, they are cheaper, but we like the convenience of not having to rent a car and worry about the car seats and booster seats. To our family it is a relaxing trip just being in the Disney bubble and exploring everything as a family! Our last no parks trip we even did a playground crawl since my kids are young and they had an absolute blast!! Visiting the different resorts and their playgrounds.....something we probably wouldn't do on a regular trip with park tickets. DH and I both do not like to drive anyway so staying onsite is worth it for us!

We do all the non theme park things listed here on our trips with the theme parks. Some days we just decide not to go into the theme parks, but we know that we can change our mind and go if we want.

However, we often only go to the theme park for an hour or two, or maybe to get lunch at BOG and then we're done. WE are NOT rope drop to close people. We often go to the theme parks and don't get on a single ride - just walk around - especially at the AK or in Epcot WS. We get AP's so we can go into whichever park we desire whenever we want. I never worry about getting my 'money's worth' out of a ticket. The ability to go or not is 'worth it' to me.
There also have been times that I have bought a 7-10 day ticket - even then sometimes I just used one of those days just to go into a park's gift shop or to do one FP+ ride. It is part of being in the "Disney Bubble' to me. I would hate to be in the theme parks all day - it would get old and tiring really quickly. Just way too busy for us. However, I would hate staying in the Poly, for example, and feeling that I can't go to the MK if I want to do so.

When on vacation I often stop to think "What would feel good right now?" If the answer is a coffee on my balcony, then I cancel any FP+ and head back to my resort to do just that. We really enjoy every moment.

To each their own, but we prefer to do a mixture of relaxing and fun and exciting on every trip. If I had to go on a no parks trip, I would undoubtedly stay offsite, but forced somehow onsite, it would have to AKL (where you at least aren't looking at the parks). I don't expect that it will ever happen, though.

I'm guessing that 'no parks this trip' people do rope drop to close on other trips, or at least rope drop to 'too tired to do the other stuff'. This trip, then, is the time to do and see all the other things that WDW offers. And there certainly is a lot to see, do and enjoy.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

When we went to the parks we would do rope drop a few times, we never spent all day at any of the parks. We have to travel in the summer due to school and work. It's hot, it's crowded and everyone tires easily. My boys would rather head back to the hotel and swim than wait in line for a ride the have done 20 times. So I started to feel like it was a waste to buy tickets.

I do agree with you, it's nice to have the option if you want to go to a park!

We haven't done a completely no parks trip yet, but we have one booked for December. We definitely don't like doing them every day, and we LOVE just wandering around the World. Last time we had one day hoppers and that worked well. If we add tickets to this trip that's probably what we'll do. There's no magic like Disney magic, and so much to do outside the parks. Offsite is just not the same.

My DH does not want to go to the parks next visit. He just likes sitting at the pool and enjoying the weather (we travel in Feb from VT). Of course I can't imagine being at Disney and not doing at least one day at the parks, and my DD (age 5) agrees. So we are staying 6 nights, 5 days, and I am trying to decide if I want to get a 2 day ticket for DD and myself (MK of course!)

I actually LOVE non park trips. I find them very relaxing, and we always find things to do to occupy our time when we aren't relaxing by the pool. We shop, dine at the fancier restaurants in Disney, play mini golf, see movies, explore the different resorts and do a lot of drinking...
