Pete's Apple Rant

Mac for life. I don't need them coming up with a new toy every 6 months.

I'm STILL using the same Mac Mini I bought in 2010, and runs just great even on the latest OS *knock on wood*.

It's not that there aren't great Windows based machines, but I loathe Windows OS. I grew up on it. I know how to use it, but when I got my first iMac in 2005, it was like a breath of fresh air. The OS alone is what keeps me with Mac. I don't have the baggage that Windows people have to deal with.

I'm gonna soon finally get a new Mac, but it's gonna be the MacBook Pro released in 2015. I don't like that they got rid of all the ports on the latest machines, so I'm gonna stay with the previous generation.

/But that's just, like, my opinion.

I have a 2016 MacBook Pro and honestly I don't miss the ports at all.

Missed this Pete rant so will have to go listen in a bit. Right now I will say that I am not happy with my special needs 9 year old daughter's ipad. We got a new apple charger cord for it yesterday. It charged and worked fine for about 6 hours and then went dead. We tried to charge it last night but nothing. Hopefully her Papa ( aka my wonderful Father in Law) can clean out the electronic port with electronic contact cleaner so that it will start charging again. If it wasn't for the fact that Proloque2go which is the AAC app she uses to talk was only available for the ipad we would have gone with a much lower cost tablet especially since a child her age does not need the latest technology to drive me bonkers by watching a show on continuous replay.

I have a MacBook white 2010. I guess they don't make white computers anymore. I've been looking for a new Mac but they do not have cd/ dvd players in them. This is a feature I use all the time so I'm now delaying a new apple purchase. I know you can buy the dvd/ cd player as attachment but that is just another piece to cart around. Sigh!!
Hunter, do you know if the 2015 module has the dvd/cd built inside the computer. Where can you buy an older module that still has dvd/cd player built inside it?

He was completely right about the Apple Watch, that was a complete failure. Personally, I am not a fan of Apple, but only because Apple is not a fan of my budget.

I buy $50 cell phones, $400 PC's, and $300 laptops :)

The last MacBook to include the optical drive was the 2012 non retina MacBook Pro. They just discontinued it's sale when they released the new 2016 MacBook Pro. I would recommend looking at B&H Photo or Best Buy to see if they still have any inventory left of the old model or you might be able to buy a refurbished one from Apple.

I use a IPad daily and have Apple TV, which I use occasionally. I use Republic Wireless, which doesn't have IPhones, so I use a Galaxy 7s (but have a IPhone 4s that I use occasionally, particularly at Disneyworld). I would become a greater Apple user if they ever use fingerprints or eye retina to unlock devises. I have an iPad that is a brick because it can't be unlocked and I am running out of passwords to use because Apple requires a new, never used, password when you have to change the password.

iPhones and iPads use fingerprint scanners. Eye retina is rumored for their next iPhone.

I update my password all the time and have never rand into the issue that the password can never have been used before. It just can't be a password you've used in the last year. Easiest way to get around that is use a number at the end and change it up one every time you have to reset.

I am a tinkerer so I will never buy Apple products. They breed stupidity by not letting you do anything other than what they want you to do with their devices. I am paying for the device so it should be mine to tinker with and change how I see fit. I am a programmer now and I learned a lot of the problem solving skills I use each day by tinkering with pc's, android, linux, etc.

If you like Apple products, it's because of the innovations put in place in the Jobs era. Since he passed, Apple has done iterative improvements, but not much in the way of innovation.

Microsoft for years were seen as the unchanging mega company, but in recent years have become much for flexible and innovative in both their software and hardware.

In the end, it's a personal choice, whatever works best for you.
