Rejected Again--questions

Not one person here can answer this question unfortunatly. We can all guess, but really don't know. I've applied twice for the International program, got hired on the first time, and on the second got waitlisted and never got a position.

My daughter got in, but it was about 8 years ago. She was a college freshman, in her 2nd semester. I believe at that time they did not have as many interviews. I think she had the application and then a phone interview. She is a super bubbly, friendly, outgoing person so I am sure she aced the phone interview. I really think its just luck of the draw who gets to move on to the interviews, and who doesn't. Or maybe they had a huge amount of applications for that session and just stopped interviewing once they had enough CPs? I think she should just keep trying! It was a fabulous experience, and my daughter still talks about it all these years later!

I think there's a big misconception as to how this is done...

Unless there have been massive changes...it's about as random as you get.

Males tend to have better odds (fewer applicants)...larger schools with "networks" seem to get preference (always about sales)...and beyond that they seem to be somewhat "mad men" In their thinking...

I can only say it's random. That's no comfort...but it's no indictment of the individual kids either. I know that stinks.

Here's an anecdote:

One particular year...in a past glory era...I went to the old info session on campus. We were one of the largest recruiting stations anywhere...schools from all over the state sent kids there. Filled out the app for really no reason (wasn't interested then...just for curiosity)...got the interview...got the acceptance in the mailbox 2 days later. Post marked from the nittany lion inn (on campus)...they randomly selected in their hotel room that day.

Friend had worked as a C/T over the winter break for two years...great resume...knew all the right demeanor/disneyisms...

Rejected without thought.

This really isn't a higher ed experience. It's easy labor for them and it ends there. The kids have to find value/make something of it. It is what it is.
