Beauty and the Beast Movie Review

Saw it tonight and I absolutely loved it! I was beginning to get a bit wary with the critic reviews coming out, even though I tend to disagree with them often on most films ;-) However, I'm so happy that I was NOT disappointed at all and it was overall a very very good remake of the beloved original.

**Maybe a spoiler, read at your own risk ;-)**

Only a few minor things I would change, personally, the biggest one being Emma Watson's reaction during the "Be Our Guest" sequence. She's obviously no stranger to acting with things that aren't actually on the screen thanks to a decade of Harry Potter, so her courtesy half smile (like she was watching a co-worker's child's piano recital) during most of the number seemed out of place. I know there are a lot of critical opinions about her in the role out there, and I disagree with most but I did think she could've done better with that scene. Though it was hardly a bring down the film moment, just one I noticed enough to comment on ;-)

I've been listening to the soundtrack all week and have been curious to see how it would all come together in the movie, since the songs seemed to lack some of the punch from the versions in the original - but they work well in the movie and now listening to the soundtrack after I'm enjoying it much more having the visuals from the film in my head to go along with it.

Already trying to figure out if I can squeeze in a showing during the afternoons all of my kiddos are in school to see it again. I don't want to wait until it's out on video!

I saw it last nite and thought it was very good . We will be seeing it again because of
all the detail and it moves along quickly so we felt we missed a few good parts.

My family loved everything about it.

the one thing that I did not care for was I felt the character who played Gaston
was to old for Belle

Go see it , you won't be disappointed

I saw it last night. I thought the film was brilliant. Disney has definitely stepped up their game with their animated movies being turned into live-action films. I hope Disney can keep up the momentum on the 20+ live-action films that are currently being planned. I want to see this movie again.

I saw it last night and absolutely loved it! I thought it was perfectly cast - I actually loved Gaston. I thought he played the role perfectly. A few minor, minor things I wasn't fond of, but nothing significant enough to take away from the movie. I have been listening to the soundtrack all morning and can't wait to see it again!

We saw it last night and LOVED it. The costumes and scenes were so beautiful. There was so much to look at I want to see it again because I know I missed things.

My own review, with no real spoilers.

I think that as a stand-alone movie it's very, very good. Of course, it's not a stand-alone movie and so will always be compared to the animated version. I think it holds its own. I would certainly recommend it to any Disney fan or fan of the original, unless you're someone who has just absolutely decided you just hate these remakes.

Emma Watson is positively charming, though several steps backward from animated Belle both in looks and singing voice. My wife said she noticed heavy auto-tuning, though I did not.

Gaston is more nuanced and complex, and seemingly less bad. But then he takes a dark turn. LeFou is less, well, cartoonish, pardon the pun.

There is a funny nod to the fact the in the animated version, Mrs. Potts sure seems more like Chip's grandma.

There's an added scene near the end that is extremely poignant and heavy and a positive addition.

The "gay thing" is pretty quick and subtle, set up by a less-subtle moment earlier in the movie, that doesn't even involve LeFou.

The seeming timeline discrepancy in the animated version is resolved.

"Be Our Guest" doesn't disappoint, though I agree with @momtohms that you'd think Belle would give a bigger reaction than she does. I blame the director on that.

Biggest disappointment: the blonde trio - who are collectively perhaps the best product Disney animation ever created :-) - have been made into less nubile brunettes.

We went last night, and it was OK...Very sad to say I think I hyped it to be so much more..I went with five other girls and out of the six of us 4 thought it was just okay and the other two loved it..I purchased tickets before I seen it for my family to go tonight to see it and sorry to say I am kinda regretting to have to see it again...

I just watched the film, and must say that I absolutely loved it! Some critics mentioned Emma Watson's "wooden" performance - I found her absolutely enchanting. Some voiced concern for how the enchanted objects were portrayed, but I am unsure how you could ever make a "normal looking", yet fully mobile/verbal/animated candelabra, clock, etc. that didn't stand out as a bit .. hmm .. odd? Abnormal? I'd say they did a fabulous job with that challenging charge. The beast was definitely CGI as well, but once I got used to his appearance, his appearance also did not bother me. Emma Thompson's accent could've been better, but overall the casting was 100% spot on, the music was lovely, and the script- wonderful. Yes, it's very similar to the animated film. Do I care? Not one bit. :) Then again, I've seen the animated film innumerable times, the Broadway production twice, a high school production of the musical twice, own all the soundtracks ... each is essentially the exact same story line with almost all the same character mannerisms, scenes, design, punchlines, charms -- but the nuances are what make each unique- and I adore them each in their own way. I loved this film and plan to see it again at least once while it is still in theaters!

Aaaaaah- totally made my weekend. :goodvibes

I saw it Saturday as an early birthday celebration with my family and absolutely adored it! I have to admit that I did cry a couple of times. I will definitely be seeing it again (for sure on my actual birthday!)
Since the 1991 film was my first movie in theaters and has always been my absolute favorite Disney movie, I had very high expectations. This completely fulfilled them for me, if not surpassed them. The only thing I hoped would happen that didn't was the addition of some of my favorite songs from the Broadway production, but I did catch some musical references even though the songs were not included. I loved the casting, and the depth added to the story. It was well worth the wait in my eyes!

exactly my husband didn't even notice it! When I mentioned it he was like "what? really I didn't see that!"
"Not that there's anything wrong with it"

Ha ha I've been planning the same thing. I don't remember there ever being a movie where I heard so many people wanting to see it again so soon!

Loved the explanation of a King and Castle a couple miles away (and the snow) nobody knew about. "I keep forgetting something, but not sure what" Oh yea my wife and kid never came home from working at the castle. Big hole filled.

The animated version has always been my favorite Disney movie. I saw this one this weekend and absolutely LOVED it! I thought the entire movie was beautiful. I cried a few times which I really didn't expect to. I went with three other friends and plan on going back with my daughter (and maybe again if any other friend wants to go, lol). After seeing it, I ordered the soundtrack on Amazon. It should come in just in time for our trip to Ft Wilderness this weekend. :)

I saw the movie too and I loved it. Some songs from the cartoon were skipped though like the "Being Human Again" song. But the two additional songs were great. The best part about the movie was that they made it just like the cartoon with just slight differences. It was like watching the cartoon come alive. :)

This movie turned out to be a real surprise to many. I don't think people expected it to be quite that good. Maybe because some were going in comparing it to the animated movie, but overall, the reactions were very positive.

Only a few minor things I would change, personally, the biggest one being Emma Watson's reaction...

You could end the sentence right there and I'd agree wholeheartedly. That's about the only issue I had with the movie. She seemed so....stiff.

I finally saw the movie last night and i absolutely loved it. I went in hesitant because the 1991 disney version is my favorite Disney movie, but I was won over in the first 10 minutes.

Now, I'm scheming on when I can go to see it again!

I saw the movie this afternoon and thought it was absolutely wonderful. The casting is perfect. Emma Watson was charming, but seemed less "dreamy" and a little tougher than the animated version, but in a good way. Loved Gaston and LeFou. Bad guys but with layers (does that make sense?) Songs, costumes, and settings are great. I don't often go to see a movie a second time in the theater, but I might with this one. Will definitely be buying DVD when it comes out.
Advice for those with small children: some parts are darker/scarier/more serious than the animated version. There was an approx two year old girl in the audience and her father had to take her out several times. Movie is probably best for kids over 5, maybe older depending on the child.

Well, I finally saw it. It was okay, well done certainly, but like Cinderella, it's just too similar to the animated version and I wonder why would I ever watch this version over the original? It's redundant to me, and unexciting. I feel they may have overcomplicated the plot, though I did like some of the additions like the magical nature of the castle's eternal winter and such. THe new songs didn't excite me either, and honestly, the singing was fine, but not amazing. Josh Gad was a highlight as LeFou. So, I mean, I'm glad I saw it, but I guess I wish they had really taken some chances and made some changes. As it stands it's jsut the same movie, the not-as-good version, as the original.
