I'll preface this by saying - this post is not Disney related! But you guys are a wealth of USA related travel information! Has anyone been to Nashville? My daughter is obsessed with the place and I'm wondering if there is enough there to warrant a week long trip over there from Down Under?

We went to Nashville in nov 2016 for an nfl game. We flew in and out the same day. The night previous we flew into Orlando and stayed at the hotel at the airport. The next morning we left our luggage in the room( we booked for 2 nights) and flew to Nashville. I found that Southwest Airlines were the cheapest for our family and we have used them a number of times to fly around the states. I liked Nashville it was very pretty and the people were very friendly and helpful. The reason we only stayed for the day was I didn't think our teenagers would be that interested considering they don't like country music and as a family we have no interest in it. I am sure there ate other things to do but for us there were other cities we were more interested in. We had a great time at the game and flew back to Orlando after it ready to leave the next day for a merry time Disney cruise.

I've been to Nashville twice now. Is your daughter interested in country music? That really is the main reason for going there.

The main attractions include:
Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum (allow a few hours)
The Ryman (I think the tour is about an hour)
The Opry
The Bluebird Cafe (you will need to line up for hours to get in)
Belle Meade plantation
The Hermitage
Frist art museum
The "honky tonks" on Broadway (obviously need to be 21+)
Music Row (note: this is not the same as Broadway)
Pancake Pantry (another one to line up for)
Loveless Cafe

If she's into country music, there are also a lot of music video locations that she might be interested in seeing.

I don't think you need a week there unless you're going to CMA fest, which is a 4 day music festival in June.

Would you literally just go to Nashville and no where else on your trip? Because I can't imagine that would be worth the cost. I would also look at going to Memphis at the very least, and if you're wanting to just stay in Tennessee you could also explore the Smoky Mountains and go to Dollywood.

Hi, thank you both for responding. It would just be a trip over to go to Nashville itself. Very quick 6-7 nights in total. My 12 year old daughter loves music of all types and is desperately wanting to go to some of the music venues there like Bluebird cafe etc (although I haven't checked the age limit on that!). I don't particularly want to go all that way but I have told her we will do a mother daughter trip together and that's where she wants to go I think we can get return flights for between $3800-4000 from Adelaide. Would be looking at going in January when I have more holidays and before she starts high school. It does seem like a long way to go. I wouldn't have a car either so might be tricky to get around. I have read that Nashville needs a car but I don't know how accurate that is.

It is a long way to go for just Nashville. BUT being a country music fan who is also currently obsessed by Nashville the tv show, I can still see the appeal. I'm not sure I'd go all the way to the east of The US for 6 days at all but if I was going to, then I'd be happy to do that in Nashville if that makes any sense. It's not Nashville itself that would put me off, it's the travel time etc.

Me too. There are so many cool places to visit that are related to music, we loooove that show too, but I would also add other components to extend the trip and make the travel time and airfare expense worthwhile.
I wouldn't go anywhere in the USA for just 6 days and turn around and go home, it would be exhausting.

I didn't have a car on my two trips but that is what has prevented me from visiting the Opry. I stayed near Vanderbilt both times and used a mix of public transport, uber and walking to get around. There's a lot you can see within walking distance once you're downtown but things like the Bluebird, Pancake Panty, Belle Meade and the Opry are all further out.

As far as I know there's no age restriction on getting into the Bluebird (seeing as Taylor Swift was discovered there at 15).

It's about a 3 hour drive from Nashville to Memphis (probably a bit longer using Megabus/Greyhound) but I would highly recommend it. If you're daughter loves music, she'll love a visit to Graceland!

For what it's worth...

A lazy 3-4 hour drive & 180 mile down the road from Nashville is Memphis.
Now there's a place that you could spend 3-4 days in if you are a music fan. And it's not just Elvis.
Rock'n'Soul Museum
Stax Studios
Sun Studios
Beale St
Of course... Graceland
Along with the National Civil Rights museum where Martin Luther King was assassinated...

It's well worth the detour.

Thanks for all the input. I wouldnt be driving and don't really want to so I think that would rule out any detours to other cities. There only seems to be a public bus too between Nashville and Memphis. Oh so tempting though.

I'm also now thinking that maybe I could sneak in a couple of days at Disneyland on the way home to give it a second chance! I was quite underwhelmed with DL in December but they may have been because I was feeling a bit stressed in the lead up to our Vegas wedding.... tempting

I have to confess that I went to London for a week in January 2016, which is including travel time so I'm not too fussed about the distance!
