Tent Camping in June

Soooooo I was thinking about tent camping the beginning of June 2018 for 6 nights. It would be myself, my husband, 4 kids ages 7-12 at the time, and my mom.

Last time we went to Disney (also in June) we stayed at Fort Wilderness in a rented RV. We were honestly barely there except to sleep and shower.

We are big on camping and have camped plenty of times in the middle of summer here in Texas. We were thinking of bringing an ac to put in the tent (our tent has a spot for one on each end).

Is this doable? Any experience/tips from people that have done it? I know it'll be hot but it didn't seem too bad two years ago when we went.

We'll be driving so will have plenty of room to store all our stuff.

Thanks!

With the A/C, doable.

You already know what to expect for weather. Especially if you are spending most of the time in the parks.

Not sure about Texas, but I know the humidity can get quite high in Orlando Fl area. Just a thought to consider.

Hot - crowded in parks - :goodvibes

No way for us to sleep at night hot and muggy - and forget daytime in the tent (without AC).

So it seems like it's totally doable as long as we have AC.

Do the sites flood with the rain? When we were there in June 2015 it only rained once during our 8 day trip.

Do you lock up your stuff in the tents or just leave it be? Does anybody mess with it?

We did a split trip with 5 days in a two bed room at Bay Lake Towers followed by 3 days in a tent in June. Should have done the trip the opposite way.

Had wonderful weather for the first part of the trip. Rained day and night for the second part. The AC in the tent is the only thing that made it somewhat bearable.

You could see a line about 4 inches up on the tent where the flood reached.

Lock up valuables for sure, in your vehicle. Camping gear is USUALLY ok left out.

Always plan on things getting "Wet". So if you want it dry, make sure to put it in a "Bin" or bag to ensure it stays dry.

When it comes to your "Stuff" use what you feel safe with. Some folks feel comfortable with leaving stuff in their tents, others in their car, still others will take (small) valuables to the front desk for securing in their lock boxes. I think as a general rule, most campers are honest and will leave your stuff alone, That said, it's always better to NOT leave valuables out in the open (whether it's visible through a Tent window or sitting on the picnic table).

I routinely put a tent on the tent pad behind my motor home but i have never had my site flood. The tent pad mostly consists of crushed shell and sand. It is very firm, firm enough I can put my rear tires on it and my leveling jacks, and they will go down an inch or so. The pad drains well.
