Hello

we usually stay on property but since there will be six of us this time, we're looking into a rental with a private pool. It doesn't have to be a big pool, we could make a splash pool work too. I've been pouring over VRBO but I'm not sure where to book.

If you're looking for a private pool, then it's not going to be at one of the condo resort places, it's likely going to be at a single family home or townhome community.

We always stay off property, but typically stay at places that are set up like a condo (or even townhome, but the pool is a community one). Best advice I'd give is to find a rental on VRBO with a lot of recent reviews, and the unit is privately owned (often by snow birds). As for area to stay, I always recommend the same area(s). Rt. 192 runs east/west along the south side of WDW (if you're looking at a map, it goes "under" WDW). There is a pocket of rental communities to the southeast of WDW and one to the southwest side. We prefer the southeast side, as it has more of the grocery stores, shops, etc...that we're looking for, but we've stayed on the southwest side too and it's great.

So when you do a VRBO search, check for ones right along, or just off of, Rt 192. It's an easy drive to WDW from there...10 minutes or so.

We rented a home off of VRBO--it was in the Legacy Park development off of Rts. 192/27. It was four bedrooms, three baths, a game room, and a private pool. The home was amazing, as was the owner, and the price was way cheaper than what we would have spent at a resort. It was also very convenient to shopping, restaurants, and the parks. If you're interested, PM me and I'll try and dig up the listing. But while looking, I saw that there were several for rent in that community with similar features so you shouldn't have a hard time finding one in that community.

Did you feel that it was too far? Is the community call Legacy Dunes?

Lake Berkley is a lovely gated community that we have stayed in a few times - there is a combination of townhomes without their own private pools and villas that most often do have a private screened-in pool. There is also a community pool and small "splash-pad", as well as a lovely walking trail, basketball court, etc.

Here is a link to VRBO - 3-4 bedrooms with pool: https://www.vrbo.com/vacation-renta...Amenities=pool&sort+by=ReviewCount/Descending

We really like the area for its proximity to shopping, restaurants and other "non-theme park" activities.

I also have a number of friends who regularly stay in Windsor Hills but I have not stayed there myself.

Windsor Hills is about 2 miles away if not closer. They have some very large houses and even smaller townhomes that fit the requirements.

I've been looking at those. I like places that have garages that the owners have made into game rooms. I think it would give the 25-27 years olds something to do.

Try IPG Florida Vacation Homes

There are many communities along Hwy 27 ( Just off the end of Hwy 192 West )

As Mentioned Legacy Park ...... Hampton Lakes ....... All these have private pools & range from 3 bed to 7 bed.

Windsor Hills is perfect location with the larger homes ( I know 4 bedroom ones do, not sure about 3 bedroom) having backyard pools.

Windsor Hills is awesome, but Windsor Palms is also great. It is a few years older than WH, and rentals tend to run a bit cheaper there. We have stayed at both and are happy to go back to either. As our grandsons get older, they really enjoy having a games room and also like heading to the clubhouse for a swim in the bigger pools, using higher quality pool & ping pong tables, etc.

The resorts are wonderful places for runners, too, who want to clock some miles before walking all day. Can you imagine??? That's a special kind of crazy in my mind... but I admire the heck out of them when they come home.

We have booked our second stay in a lovely 4 bedroom home in WP which has a real hot tub instead of the spa attached to the pool. Everyone enjoyed that. We don't look for granite countertops and upscale furnishings, although they are definitely available in both resorts. We have never been disappointed with the cleanliness and upkeep of our rentals, nor the upkeep of the resort facilities.

We recently stayed at reunion we love the resort. We were able to take our dogs and having a private pool was great. We stay onsite most of the time I will have to say I didn't miss it.

Don't be afraid to look for 4 or 5 BR, too - even though you don't need that much space. It wasn't until I bought my own vacation home that I realized that 3BR homes/condos were frequently cheaper than 2BR.

I wouldn't be surprised if 3BR with a pool might be more expensive or even the same price as 4-5 BR with a pool. SO don't limit your search.

Good luck!

Agreed, the rental market is not very efficient and there are lots of pricing anomalies.

If you don't mind a short (20 minute) drive, take a look at the Davenport area. TONS of houses for rent, most in the 3-4 bedroom range, nearly all with private pools. Have stayed in this town the past two years in a row and plan to do so again this year.
