AP upgrade to Seasonal vs Powerpass question

Hello,
I need help sorting AP ticket pricing out. Here's a little background first. In 2015 I purchased tickets for Universal P2P through Undercover Tourist. It was buy 2 days get 1 free promotion (my tickets say 3 days park to park). All was well for a trip that was going to take place September 2015. This was supposed to be a special trip for my DD, DH and myself because she LOVES HP. Well, 48 hours before we were to leave, she made a bad decision and did something REALLY stupid and we had to pull the trip. It was maddening, heartbreaking and really a test of tough love parenting! Thank goodness for SW Airline very flexible change policy. We cancelled the trip to her horror and my sadness because of all the excitement and planning that went into that trip....

So here we are still sitting on almost $600 in park tickets~~ THANK goodness they are non expiring tickets.

I've been thinking of going the last week of April for 3-4 days (there are no AP blockouts then) and wanted to upgrade to Seasonal Passes while there. My understanding is that would be approximately $10.60 per ticket if done according to directions on DIS. We are also going to southern Florida in July. I wasn't planning to go to Orlando then but my DH keeps bringing it up. That would be a blockout timeframe.

Here's my question FINALLY! If I was to go in April, upgrade to Seasonal before my 3rd day is over, could I re-uprade to Power Passes in July? I may have answered my own question because you have to be IN the park 1st, right???

I'm guessing my plan won't work unless 1)I go in April upgrade to Seasonal and NOT go in July
2)Go in July and upgrade during our 3rd day to Seasonal and plan another trip next school year?

I hope this makes a little sense and you can help me sort this out in my brain!!!

Thank you so much!

Why not just upgrade to power right from the start, are you not sure you are going?

You can upgrade your seasonal pass outside the park at guest services to a power pass if the date is a blockout date.

Yes that's the problem...fear of commitment for July :sunny: I'm pretty certain we would be able to go again in the fall for a quick trip and that wouldn't require the power pass. I'm figuring it would be about $70 pp to upgrade to power pass from a 3 day p2p-- am I correct in that calculation or way off?

Yes, it is always just the difference between current gate price of the tickets and the price of the AP, as long as you use the ticket first.

Sorry if this isn't the pass you were inquiring about, but have you considered the pass that gives you basic parking privileges? With parking costs doing nothing but rise, perhaps the inclusion of that feature would help make the decision. Unless, you are staying on property, then kindly ignore :)

Hi,
Not sure about the next level of pass for us. I guess we could get one if parking is a big issue for DH. Probably not ...but never say never. We've not gone to IOA/US before (only when it was US) so I'm not sure yet. I'm hoping to stay onsite in April but haven't made reservations. Whatever trips we take will be short 3-4 day trips unfortunately. I guess I will try to go in April and see then what we think. We can decide if we want to go in July and upgrade accordingly.
Thanks!

Yes you can upgrade it again to the power pass. That is similar to what we did last year. Lol..on renewal we downgraded to Seasonal but considering upgrading later to power pass if we come back!

Regarding having to pay to upgrade your tickets to a seasonal pass, I posted this on another thread but we upgraded our buy 2, get 1 day free Undercover Tourist tickets to seasonal passes yesterday while in the parks and received money back. Yes, we received a refund of $10.21 per ticket. We bought the UT tickets a few months ago, before the Universal ticket price increase.

We are planning to use our passes during a non- block out period but if I wanted to go during a block out period, I was told we could upgrade our passes at guest services outside the park.

Hope that helps!

Wow! That's incredible news! Hopefully I can be so lucky :shamrock:. It's looking more and more like July trip to Universal isn't happening so I will probably do the base seasonal passes. Thanks for posting this great news.
