Have you ever been rescued from an awkward situation by a total stranger?

My story is not the typical rescue story but I did feel rescued emotionally.

Overnight, DS16 turned from a normal healthy teenager into someone who developed an extremely rare disease. He spent weeks in the ICU and there was a night where he made a turn for the worse. I had held it together up to that point, but upon hearing that, I went out to the hallway and started crying like I had never cried before. I started hyperventilating.

A stranger came out of nowhere with a bottle of water and a sandwich and said "If you want to take care of your son, you need to take care of you" He had no idea that I didn't eat for days and didn't remember when was the last time I drank. Then he said "everything will be OK", something you can't really know in the ICU wing. He will never know the difference he made in my day. In the end, it took 18 months to recover but DS is doing great like nothing ever happened.

Edited to add : Sorry, just realized it asked rescued from an akward situation, mine is just from a situation

My husband was... but it was for me. I had just given birth to my second son. I had not been able to eat or drink all day. The baby and I were fine, I really wanted a chick-fil-a sandwich and a milkshake.

My husband walked up as they were lovking the doors, and told them his wife just had a baby and asked to please let him get my sandwich and shake. They were kind enough to fill the order.

No one rescued me in this situation but I do have a similar story. My twin sister was pregnant and we had gone to a family function, my aunt looks at me (thinking I was my twin sister of course) and said "You don't look THAT pregnant", and I said "um, because I'm not?" She was SO embarrassed, I still tease her about it.

I'm glad you shared your story, and I think it qualifies perfectly well!

I'm also very happy to hear that your son is doing great again. What a nightmare for you all!

just had surgery on my throat, all I could have was smoothies or milkshakes. Went to go get one. I first, had to apologize to the guy taking my order for why I was whispering, then ordered my drink, went to pay, realize I had no money and tried to cancel my order. He said too late, once it goes through and hits the payment screen it can't be cancelled. I looked so panicked and upset, that the guy said wait here let me talk to the manager, see what he wants to do. Got it on the house, with extra, and told to feel better. Basically was told it was going to be thrown out but they felt bad given that this was apparently what I wanted after coming out of surgery.
Didn't know you had surgery. I hope you feel better soon!

Years ago I had 2 kids under the age of 3 and needed milk one night. DH was bowling. The little store in town always had questionable guys hanging around but I had to go with the kids. Got my milk, both kids in my arms and I locked the keys in the car. I figured one of those guys could get my keys out for $5 and sure enough, not even 30 seconds later my car was open. (this was the old days before buttons and all). The guy told me to keep the $5 as he would hope one of his friends would do it for his mom.

A friend of mine was really good at the coat hanger trick even though he was a really straight laced guy. We always sent him to help customers who'd locked their keys in their cars. He once helped a guy at the ballpark and the guy handed him a joint. My friend thought he was going to be arrested on the spot LOL
