We are considering heading to Mackinac this summer. We will be in a large tent and I am looking for campground recommendations. Online reviews are mixed. I would like to be within easy distance to the fort and ferry.

I am very excited to take DH there as my family was the first Europeans to assimlate into the indigenous peoples of the island. I went once 26 years ago, but was too young to appreciate the experience.

I guess there isn't anyone here that get's to northern Michigan. I was following along hoping somebody would jump in with some good advice since I've been considering making long trip to Mackinaw Island sometime.

I'm from Northern Ohio and have always heard good things about Mackinaw Island, but I have never been there myself or know of any good places to camp.

Mackinaw Mill Creek Campground is a nice campground. Although we have not stayed there, we do have camping friends who used it as their home base and drove to the ferry to the island. http://www.campmackinaw.com/ There is so much to see and do along Lake Michigan. One of our favorites is along the coast line of Lake MIchigan

Thank you for the responses. I camped up there in high school, but have no idea what the campground was called. I appreciate the help!

It looks like we won't need to camp now. My brother wants to come along, and we are excited. He has time share points and has offered to gift us lodging.

We have been to Mackinaw Mill Creek campgrounds many times over 35 years and we're going again this upcoming summer.
I would call the campground and get the rate , sometimes time new season listing is not always up to date.

We have been to both Mill Creek and the KOA. I prefer the KOA based on location, we like to ride our bikes into town and to the ferry vs. driving or using the shuttle.

Mill creek does have better views of the bridge.. Some of the sites are also very cramped, if you have a bridge view site you are only going to be able to put out your slide or your awning, not both.

If you are there you should check out Tahquamenon falls, a little drive but definitely worth it. Lot's of other options in the area, if you need suggestions let me know.
