News Round Up 2016

I think the problem/insecurity many have...including me...is that disney appears to be actively pushing people to their economic breaking point and they are ok with it.

You can never shake the thought. That's on this money grubbing management regime.

I'm not close/there yet...but also have no illusions that they may get me there one day. It crosses my mind every time I book something and I do think about those that have been left behind.

You wanna talk about "ruining the magic"?...then that is it.

And this isn't a "dad lost his job" type thing...this is sprinting past hard working people at a price increase policy faster than they can fight through the marathon of the modern world.

The part that gets me slightly irritated, is that on the front end you have Disney cutting characters (for example the dog doesn't meet with the UP kid anymore, princes no longer meet with princesses, etc.) because the normal ticket price can no longer "sustain" the extra $9/hr, and then on the back end you have Disney quickly repackaging things like this that were taken away and selling them as an "extra" to those who can help "sustain" the $9/hr Prince Naveen on the Steamboat.

As pointed out, it's the Wall Street mentality. Better show YOY growth or everyone loses their mind.

There is already an Edison in Los Angeles (the one at Disney Springs is supposed to be quite similar to it) so many they figured that was close enough - so rather than duplicate they did the Splitsville

Really? I didn't know they already had one over there. Should've done my research :scratchin

That's why I don't really feel a lot of "outrage" about any of this - as long as it doesn't really affect MY vacation, then who cares. It's no different than the dessert parties or a fireworks cruise or whatever - they're all upsells. You buy them or you don't. In fact, it's preferrable that they make this extra money off others, so they don't have to worry about making as much off of ME.

In my view - the worst offender of ALL of these things is the MNSSHP/MVMCP, because those DO adversely affect my vacation. (Having 4 nights a week with MK closed to the public.) But they are beloved by hundreds of thousands even having raised prices 200 % in the last 10 years.

We've even made a game of it. At dinner we play "Guess the price". I tell her about a new event or perk at Disney, and she has to guess the price. She has gotten much better at the starting price, but the MK Cabanas threw her off - she started at $250 and it took her quite a while to get up to $650 dollars. I haven't told her about the Highway in the Sky Dine Around because I'm afraid she might want to do it.

I agree with your general point. I would be a lot less bothered if somehow these up charges subsidized the rest of the operation and kept cost down. However I'm sure any gains are viewed as bottom-line enhancements.

Regarding the 2017 News thread: don't change a thing! Make it as easy on yourself to maintain as you can. Calling out News posts is a nice touch, but indexing them in the OP would be tons of work and not really needed. Great job!

Regarding riding Haunted Mansion with the lights on: noooooooooooo!! I already wish I could un-see the backstage area on my favorite ride. I regret reading about how they did many of the effects. Riding with the lights on would destroy my soul. :crazy2:

If that's the case then here's a small tip, don't ride PeopleMover when Space Mountain is down ;)

Stop, stop, just stop! I can handle only so much good news at one time!

Does anyone else think it's interesting that so many Muppet brand things have been popping up, even with the failure of the TV show? Did they already do all this work thinking the TV show would be a hit, and now they've gone too far and can't pull the plug on anything? Personally I don't mind. I just think it's interesting from a business point of view.

I felt the 2011 Muppets movie was pretty decent. I still haven't seen Muppets Most Wanted because, to be frank, the trailers did not make it seem like a Muppets movie to me. I watched the first couple episodes of the TV show and was disappointed. I felt it lacked the "family friendly" wit that usually comes with The Muppets. The kid parts were too goofy and the adult parts were too adult. Perhaps it warrants a re-watch.

In regards to the Android app update, I updated this morning and I have to say, I really like the new design. For me, it's easier to navigate, and more intuitive. Good job team!

I love The Muppets and their recent inclusion in the parks. I think (and this is a very far stretch.) we are getting something big in the parks that is Muppet related. Maybe replacing Star Tours?
