Pardon me while I obsess We're heading down in Jan/Feb for our Maiden Snowbird and Maiden FW stay. We reserved a 500 loop site Feb 21-Mar 9. Would love pics, suggesting, and experiences of sites. We'll have a 38' 5er and our dually, myself and my DH, and our two fur campers, and a golf cart from Tee Time.

dizzy2,

The one good thing about 500 loop is that it's the closest Premium loop to the pet park.

Be aware that there are some sites which back up to the small canal (think big ditch) that loops back to the pond in front of the Bike Barn. 500 is on one side of it and 1400 is on the other side of it. It's a several foot drop from the site level down to the water. Up to you if that's a plus or a minus. Those sites in 500 are on the outside of the loop (right side as you circle around on the one-way road) starting about halfway and ending maybe three fourths of the way around. If you want to avoid them, tell the CM member checking you in. If it doesn't matter, don't bother.

I've never stayed in 500 although I've biked around it. When we've done Premium loops I have asked for 900 directly across from the entrance to the Meadow Trading Post.

Thanks Bama Ed! I chose 500 for the space; we have a 38' we th 4 slides, and the dog park; a jack Russel and a choc lab, and for proximity to main areas and marina. Dog park is not a huge must and I walk them many times a day. Hoping I chose wisely .

I like the idea of the canal on one hand because our dogs get wound up when people walk around the trailer much. We are darn strict about them, but truth is the lab is one big scardy cat. My only qualm about the canal is she is allllll lab and thinks every body of water was made for her. No way no how I want her in that canal.
We are just my husband and I this trip. Kids are grown and it's our first solo trip. No kiddies to worry about wandering .
I think I'll take a second look at maps and sites and consider 900 loop as well.

Thank you so much for your reply and look forward to anyone else's input!

I'll tell you another reason you might like 900.

If you can get an outside site from about 1/3 of the way around to 2/3 of the way around, those sites back up to a "dog walk" area which is a LONG (and sometimes wide) shaded open area that runs all the way from behind 900 down behind 800 and it funnels down to the other end of the dog walk entrance which is about 3 sites into the 700 loop. There is a sign (or used to be) just off the bridge between the 900 loop and the Creekside Meadow group campsite across the ditch. Anyway it's would be good for the dogs (close by and it's still leash on) but I used it as a short-cut to get down to the MK boat or Pioneer Hall when I was in 900. You can still use the dog park when you want to go leash off.

Rather than walk from the back of 900 out to the main road then down the sidewalk, I just went off the back of my site, hung a right, and came out into 700 (you cross the old wooden FWRR ties just before you hit the pavement). I think there is a dog walk sign down at that end too. Then hang a left and go down through the 700 loop on its road and come out down by PH. Rode my bike down through there too fast and easy.

Nearly all the Premium sites should handle your rig. And given how long you'll be at the Fort, it might be worth it to move midway through your stay to experience another loop. Would take some work but it might prove interesting.

That sounds so me! I'd only take advantage of the dog park when no one else is there. My Jack Russel thinks she's top dog regardless of her age and size.

Glad you won't let your dog go in canal, saw an alligator in there near the dog park when we were there in March.

We were there from 10/8/16 - 10/16/16. I had also requested the 500 loop but it was closed due to Hurricane Matthew, it did open back up later in the week. They put us in the 900 loop and I walked our Boston Terrier, Jasmine on the dog walk trail several times. Jazzy had fun chasing lizards and trying to catch squirrels. There was never any other dogs back there when we were. We were in site 910, which we liked very much. I did like being so close to the Trading Post. If in the 900 loop I think I would rather be on a site on the outside of the loop. I still think I would like to be closer to the dog park. We only made it over there twice and probably would have gone more had it been right across the street.
