lathering sponges on vacation

I shower myself with a lathering sponge, which I dunno how common that is. I don't usually pack these when I go on trips because it seems messy (or I would have to pack in a ziploc bag) and I would have no place to hang dry it at the hotel and I'd prefer to have a clean dry one for trips but I feel it's a waste for a 3-4 trip.

For those of use who lather-bathe (I guess is the term) what kind of bathing sponge do you pack? Or what do you use when you don't pack your lathering sponge with you? I try using soap and a washcloth provided at the places I stay at but it never has the same effect. Should I pack my own shower gel?

I always bring a pouf (that's what I call them). I buy a new one and just throw it away at the end of the trip. They are like $3 each so I don't worry about bringing it back. I just hang it from the faucet of the tub. I use the shower gel at the hotel or bring a travel size one with me.

Yep, all this, and they even sell "travel" ones that are smaller and cheaper (I usually manage to find them for $1 in the sample/travel section at Target) so I don't feel as bad about chucking it.

I usually start using a new one at home a few days before each trip. Then let the old one dry and pack that. Then I'll throw it away after.

The good thing about the mesh poufs is they are very resistant to mold/bacteria with air drying. When traveling I just hang it on the faucet after each use -or- at BWV, it doesn't hang very well on their circle shower fixture nor is there a big enough ledge so we take a mesh over-the-door shower organizer and I store it in one of the organizer pockets. After my last shower, I shake it out very well and wrap it in a small hair towel that I always bring as well. Once home, I allow it to completely dry if it is still damp and put it back in my travel bag for next time.

In addition, these poufs make the most excellent dish and pot scrubbers ever.

I use a washcloth and soap with a hair tie to make a little soap bag scrubber.

Just put the small hotel soap on the washcloth and tie up with a thin hairband, so it sort of resembles a little satchel. When you shower/bathe just wet the bag and scrub away!

The great thing is you can use a clean one daily, no worry about drying anything out, and nothing to pack. :)

Bring a suction cup hook to hang in the shower or a clothes pin and use the drying string that's usually across the shower.

I hadn't thought about just throwing it away. My goodness, as much as we travel I would have to purchase a lot of new ones.
