I just recently got engaged at Cinderellas Royal table.. which was the absolute best day of my life! Now its time to plan our wedding!!

I have dreams of getting married at Disney (not sure on a location just Disney in general), and then enjoying the parks with all our close friends and family after, but so many family members are already disagreeing :(

Many are suggesting doing a classy disney themed wedding at home, and then just taking off on our own to the parks after.

To those of you that have been married at Disney... was this an awesome choice? Should I get my family and friends to come down for this, or have a cute wedding at home (toronto) with a Disney theme. I know the final decision is up to my fiance and I... but some insight from those that have done it would be awesome!

Thanks everyone! (my fiance also got it all on tape, so I posted it on youtube, and the link it below if anyone is wanting to share in my Disney fairy tale love) <3

In 10 years, I have never seen anyone regret having a Disney wedding vs. one at home, but I have seen plenty of brides regret being pressured into a home wedding when what they really wanted was a Disney wedding. That said, many people compromise and get married at home if it's the only way to have certain guests (like elderly grandparents) attend. And if they're OK with that, then they don't regret it.

Another idea is to elope at Disney and then have a big reception at home. Or just a casual get-together where you show your Disney wedding video and photos.

I've sort of had both experiences, so maybe I can be off assistance:

I had a Disney Cruise Line Wedding, and I couldn't have been happier that I did. Don't worry about what anyone thinks but yourself. I agree with what @lurkyloo said- I know several friends who wanted to do Disney weddings and were pressured by friends and family to just do a Disney themed wedding at home and regretted it. I think if a Disney wedding is what you want then do it. Otherwise, I fear you'll always be wondering "What if?" I had my wedding with the Cruise Line and then a large at-home Disney themed reception. While my reception was wonderful, I think if that was all I'd done I would have regretted it horribly. A lot of people raised their eyebrows when I basically told my family "We're getting married on a Disney cruise- with or without you!" The people who could/ wanted to come came and the others were ready to welcome us at our at the home reception a few weeks later. Lurkyloo doesn't have a bad idea about eloping either- you could do a small Memories wedding at Disney World or do a Cruise Line wedding onboard or at Castaway Cay, then have a reception at home. People will raise eyebrows no matter WHAT you choose for your wedding so do what YOU want- only you have to live with the results! Happy planning!

We had a Disneyland wedding. While a Disney wedding was a completely unsurprising choice to our family, there was a bit of pushback about the "inconvenience" for some guests to attend since it was a destination wedding for about half of our guest list. That being said, I would do it all over again with Disney, even if our entire guest list was protesting and complaining. It is what we had our hearts set on and it was such a dream come true. We plan on having a VR through Disney in the future we loved it so much.

Wedding planning is stressful, it is expensive, and it is impossible to please everyone. Don't let others pressure you into giving up what you and your fiancé want because it is more convenient for them. Plan the wedding you want to have and the people who really want to share in your joy will find a way to celebrate with you.

Ya, the worst thing would be to regret something on your wedding day... I know our family would kill us if we eloped hahaha. Reading the Disney wedding pages definitely has been wanting to do it there even more! :)

Ya, you cant really please everyone... We are having a big Chinese banquet dinner at home for sure, so our idea is anyone that cant come to the real thing in florida could come to this. My dad had the "brilliant" idea of going camping for our wedding haha not very Disney at all!! I will totally look into the cruise line as well! :) Thank you!

Your wedding is a celebration of your love for eachother. And the best way for you to celebrate is doing a Disney wedding. I, too am planning a Disney wedding. Many of my friends are excited for me and tell me they wish they had done a Disney wedding and some of them had very elaborate NYC weddings! But I am also getting a lot of pressure from family to do something else. We have to stay strong!

Oh that is so awesome. We got engaged in front of the castle on 12/18/15 then had reservations to dinner at Cinderella's Royal Table to celebrate. He wanted to propose during dinner but he didn't plan it in time so he had to do it before dinner. Now we are getting married on 10/31/16 at WP and doing the MNSSHP with everyone that evening. We are doing the Escape package. My parents are not Disney people so I hear about having the wedding there all the time. But I told them in the end it is our wedding and this is where we want it. We are paying for it so we decided that is what we are doing. We love Disney. We have been premium passholders for 4 years now we go all the time. His family is flying in from Texas and New Mexico. Good luck. I hope all goes well with the planning.

I agree. I have gotten pressure from my family they think I should have it on the beach or something. But we have stayed strong and it is set for Disney for Halloween. The fall it will be beautiful at MK. We are so excited and everything is falling into place. We are doing the Escape package at the wedding pavilion. When we were dating and on the monorail I would always tell him that is where I am getting married if I ever get married and he held me to that with all the pressure my parents keep putting on me we don't sway. You can do this and have a Disney wedding.

ahhh!! Amazing!! I really hope you post pictures! Id love to see! I think we may have decided what to do... I think we are going to do a ceremony on a beach in the Tampa area...then all go to Dinner at Disney. The Following day we are going to do pictures at Magic Kingdom (just the 2 of us in the AM), then have alll that want to join as for a day in the parks! This way we can do a pretty beach ceremony with Disney touches.. and get our dinner at a Disney restaurant! We are thinking Ohana or California Grill so we can all watch the Fire works... But this wont be till 03/17/2018.. so we have time! haha So lucky you have been a pass holder for so long! Im stuck in Canada hahah <3

My fiance and I had a similar issue. The turning point for us however was imaging our families at WDW. They wouldn't want to tour the way we do and may want to do things off property. Plus we would probably pay a portion for them to come. So we decided we'd rather tour alone and have the wedding at home then be stressed at the Happiest Place (at least for me) on Earth.

It is YOUR wedding; not your family's but YOURS. I decided to have a "destination" wedding despite some push back from my family and I loved every minute of it. The people who really care will show up wherever you have it so plan the day of your own dreams, not someone else's.

I went back and forth on doing a wedding at home or in Florida. The families preferred doing a typical home wedding. But you have to do what you want, when we really thought about it we didn't think we would be happy with a wedding back home. I also always wanted to go to Disney with my family, mine has never been, and this gives me the opportunity to share with my family.

The way I see it, don't be upset if they can't come. Don't expect anyone to come and be happy for those who can. Once we went over the logistics with both our parents they are now on board.
