JULY 2nd- Heading Down Main Street USA

We are heading through the LEFT SIDE entrance into the front part of Main Street.

We're going to pass City Hall, and make a quick stop at the Firehouse.

Welcome to the next stop on the tour.... The Disneyland Fire Dept.

The Disneyland Fire Dept. is very famous because while it looks like an old fire station on the bottom
it's actually Walt Disney's private in-park residence. Yep. Walt had this special building constructed
so that he could just rest and watch activity from the window.

Walt's apartment boasts one cool feature - a lamp that is lit to remind the Cast Members he's watching them.
Since his passing, the lamp has remained on - so next time you're in the park, look up and see his presence.

Question of the Day - July 2nd
Walt's lamp is a reminder to cast members that he's watching - and they are on stage.
What are the reminders you have to stay on track with your personal goals?
Do you log food? Do you set a timer to stretch your legs? Something else?

Bonus question: Have you ever been inside Walt's apartment during the Disneyland tour?
(they don't offer this anymore since it's not ADA Compliant :( )

I need to get my Fitbit thing plugged into my computer and then I'll add you as a friend. Thanks! I am right near Frisco/Plano. It looks like I'm about 45 minutes from your brother.
Yes, not that far at all. When I as there in April I had dinner in Frisco with a group of women from my trailer/glamping club and I think the drive was about 40 minutes. I'm going back to Texas in October but will be on a tour down in San Antonio and out to Big Bend.

Hmmm not too many reminders yet - using MFP to track food, this thread, oh and I leave my recipe books from the eating plan I am trying to follow in the lounge room on the couch so they are handy when I want to plan meals.

No :sad1:

Today is the day to vote in the federal election to elect the party who will govern for the next few years the leader of that party becomes our Prime Minister - anyway the reason for me brining this up is that voting is at a local school and I decided to walk there and back!!! yeah for me - I had to take a detour on the way back to make sure I got my 30 minutes in and there were some pretty steep hills.

I am now on my couch and have been watching my Disneyland photo movies that I made of our trip with a silly grin on my face :P - I really have to go and make some soup and colour my hair. Tomorrow we are driving to Brisbane just over an hour away to celebrate my great nephew's first birthday .... his birthday is actually July 4th so I will be celebrating with you all in the US this weekend but for a little bit different reason but with a BBQ and family time. Hmmm just realised I won't have a lot of control of what BBQ food we get at the party so I had better plan for that with my breakfast and dinner options tomorrow.

1 BMI point is very doable. You've done such great work so far and you'll definitely continue the momentum. Welcome back to another month - let me know how I can best cheerlead you! :)

I am not sure how as my motivation is down and I will need more support this month! It was raining and cold yesterday. I thought the worse of going on holiday in October is the short days and cold, but it appears going in June you can still come back to cold and rain!

I miss feeling super motivated, closer to the goal, less unhappy with current weight, harder to get myself motivated.

I think preparation will be key for me for next week

Here is a photo from that trip.................

And here is one from our 2011 WDW trip..... I was actually almost 6 pounds below goal the day we left for that trip. I felt on top of the world and DD and I loved every photo (well, nearly every photo.... I was having hair issues due to the humidity!).

So there you have it!................P

I log food on MFP. I have taken the approach to set my daily calories at maintenance level currently 1910. In my mind my upper limit is 1760 as that's what my goal weight maintenance will be. It's also linked to fitbit and it adds activities but I try not to eat those calories (unless vacation or special occasion). The logic is - if I can't be happy at 1760 calories per day, this is not the right weight goal for me.

Yesterday I went little over my plan
1910 (goal) - 1853(food) +562 (exercise) = 619 - remaining
I find that fitbit overestimates little so really I need to do better than this but honestly on scale of things it's not a bad day for a bad day!

I try to remind myself that whatever I do, or I don't do - time will pass. 5, 10, 20 years from now I can look back at my past and be content that I did my best, be at weight I am happy with, have a lifestyle I am happy with. Or not. And what I do today shapes up which one would be. I am surprised how much this visualisation is helping me not do crazy stuff - including eat too little or exercise too much, or eat too much and exercise too little. This is my main reminder. Do I want to be overweight, do I want to be on diet, do I want to be starting new challenge, do I want to feel down about myself, to feel that I didn't do my best and I let myself down, do I want to go up and down like a yo yo. And no, really, I don't want any of that.

The day I decided I will not overeat, holidays, vacations or special days or not I will not overeat, and under exercise anymore I found a cigarette filter under my desk. It's strange as nobody from my team smokes but I took it as sign, I picked it up and I put it ziplock and away. It's disgusting but it is a reminder that January 2004 I gave up smoking forever. April 2016 I gave up overeating

So reminders - MFP, Fitbit, 2 possible futures visualisations, and reminder that I have achieved permanent change before. Sorry for the long post!

Good Morning. This is a great idea about setting reminders. I use Sparkpeople on my phone and it reminds me to track my food after each meal.

No i did not get to go into Walt's apartment when we were there in 1978.

I was just getting ready to hop in the shower when I remembered that I hadn't done any type of exercise. I pulled out the weights and worked on arms, legs and core and then hopped in the shower. I need to iron my dress for today, wrap presents and maybe do my nails. Then off to my niece's shower.

Have a happy and healthy day.

Hmm . . . not a lot of real reminders. MFP reminds me to log my meals if I haven't done it after so many hours, and if I haven't walked 250 steps during each hour between 8:00am and 7:00pm, my fitbit reminds me to get up from my chair. My scale also keeps track of my weight on fitbit, which ports directly to MFP so my weight stares me right in the face from multiple places on my phone!

My new mantra is 10,000 by 10:00am - in an attempt to get at least half my steps/active minutes done before noon. I think I'll set an alarm on my phone for 10:00am each day and see where I'm at.

I've never been to Disneyland, so a big nope on Walt's apt!

Reminders... Well I'm one of those people who has to get on the scale every morning, so that's a big reminder. I'm addicted to my FitBit and that helps me keep track of movement. I signed up for MFP but haven't really gotten into it yet. And I'm doing WW online so I log my food there, or at least I've started to log there again. Then there's the mirror, yikes what a powerful reminder that is. My legs are pretty tone from all the walking and pilates... I'm carrying all my weight in my torso/belly. I think some one here described their body type as a marshmallow with sticks poking out and that's exactly what I look like. Oh, and checking in here daily is a huge help!

Never been in Walts apartment. I've done Keys to the Kingdom and been in the Utilidoor though.

I'm going to try setting an alarm for every hour when I'm home to help remind myself to stop for 30 seconds and drink water. As for the 5K goal, I'm going to hang my medal holder next to my desk in my office this weekend. I've already received one medal for the Star Wars Virtual 5K I did in May, and I'm hoping my runDisney virtual medals and my OneOrlando virtual medal come in soon.

Bonus question: I've never even been to California, much less inside Walt's apartment, lol.

Nothing earth shattering- I weigh myself each morning to keep track of my progress. I log all my food in MFP and I wear a Fitbit Charge HR to track my steps. I haven't paid much attention to my steps lately, but once school starts up I'll ramp it up again... I want to avoid sitting at my desk as much as possible.

I also weigh myself most mornings. I did get a fitness journal and I have it on the table right by my laptop. I actually picked it up this morning so I could set my coffee where it was and discovered a gecko hiding under it! Thanks goodness my husband heard me shriek and was able to get it and take it outside. :)

We have a clock that plays a little tune each hour. If I'm sitting when it goes off, I try to get up and walk around for a few minutes.

Oh, and I haven't been to Disneyland since college, 20 years ago or so. I didn't know about the apartment until we watched a Walt Disney documentary a few weeks ago. Too bad it can't be toured anymore.

I do not have any specific reminders to help me meet my goal. I also step on the scale every day but it doesn't do anything for me except make me sad
:( I don't know what reminders I could have to keep from eating sweets, if anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated, But I have to say getting alerts from this thread today was a great reminder to keep on track and that I'm not alone :) I did a little better with eating sweets, it is really hard right now because I'm visiting my parents and they have sooooo much junk food. I also ran 3 miles on their treadmill.

I have never been to Walt's apartment, I knew it was there but I didn't know it ever had tours. Now you have me intrigued!!!

Reminders to stay on track are pretty much just my food/exercise journal. It sits in the same place as it has for about 8 years now. I don't ever put it away (unless I am having company). My Fitbit also reminds me to KEEP MOVING!! Not sure how many steps I got today, but it buzzed at about 2 pm to tell me I hit my goal (Fitbit goal is set for 12,500) and I continued to work outside for about 5 more hours.... then I came inside and worked (laundry, dinner, packing for the weekend), so I'm guessing I got about 16,000 steps today without any "real" exercise.

Bonus: I knew the story about the light in the apartment window when we went to DL in 2005 and I made a SPECIAL POINT to stop for a moment and think of Walt when I entered DL for the first time. I also went back at night to take a photo (I was going to share it, but I am not on my own computer at the moment). It really choked me up..... both about how BEYOND EXCITED I was to actually be there (I never really dreamed we would get there) and to think that I was walking where Walt walked.... in the ORIGINAL park. YIKES! Getting goosebumps just thinking about it!

you look like a different person

Thanks.... there are days when I believe that I am a different person.... but really I am still me.... but just a much better version. I am still opinionated and stubborn (do NOT tell my DH I am admitting that!), full of useless knowledge and trivia, committed to my family, etc.... but now I am also FULL of energy, much more confident (but still shy with strangers), and much more willing to try something new.

******************************8

Hey friends..... sorry I wasn't on earlier. I started to type a response and then I wanted to do it on the family desktop so that I could share my photo of the light in Walt's apartment.... but I never got to it. So before I crash for the night I figured I'd at least pop on with an answer and a hello!

Car is partially loaded for the trip to Cape Cod.... overnight bags are in the kitchen, and alarm clock is set for 3:30 am.... we want to get an early start to try and beat the worst of the traffic. I'll drive and let DH and DS sleep in the car a bit. The plan is to be on the road by 4 am with a thermos of coffee and stop for breakfast sandwiches about 6 am (depending on where we are and what the traffic is like). Normally I would have made breakfast to bring along, but I just ran out of time today! I was only going to work outside with DH for a few hours and that turned into the entire afternoon and into the evening.... then I still had to fold and put away a mountain of laundry, feed everyone dinner, pack overnight bags, load the car with beach chairs and towels and cooler, etc. My original goal had been to be showered and relaxing on the sofa by 9 pm with a beer in hand.... but alas, the "relaxing" part never happened but I did enjoy a light beer after my shower... at 10:30 pm! Gotta get to sleep.... 3:30 alarm is coming soon! I'll try to pop on from my iPad over the weekend, but the DSIL that we are staying with doesn't have wi-fi at her cottage, so I'll have to do it from DBIL's beach house!

Happy July 4th my USA friends!.....................P

It should be a good time to go - Disneyland is gorgeous at Christmas and you can see Haunted Mansion Holiday (when Nightmare before Christmas gets overlayed on the Haunted Mansion) and the Small World Christmas.

I'm going to second this - Disneyland at Christmas is pretty great. The decorations are incredible, and we really loved seeing Cars Land all decorated for Christmas.
I will say that I actually hated It's a Smal World "Holiday" (which is what they called it when I was there) becuase I thought it was offensive to people who don't celebrate Christmas, but if you do celebrate Christmas, it's probably pretty nice.

What are the reminders you have to stay on track with your personal goals?
Do you log food? Do you set a timer to stretch your legs? Something else?

Theoretically, I track all of my food. In practice ... I need to work on that.
I also should probably start working on reminders to get up and walk around every so often ... although that's not so important because the ADD tends to get me out of the chair randomly just because I'm so antsy. My sister gets very aggravated at my constant pacing around.
I'm trying out using a "life journal" to help keep me on tracking - I think knowing that I'll be writing down what I do somewhere will help keep me focused.

Bonus question: Have you ever been inside Walt's apartment during the Disneyland tour?

Nope :( I wish!

I love the idea of hanging your medal holder next to your desk - it's a combination of a great motivator and a reminder of the progress you've made!

Yay for walking to the voting place! That's a great way to get in some exercise and stay involved in what's going on around you!

As for the 5K goal, I'm going to hang my medal holder next to my desk in my office this weekend. I've already received one medal for the Star Wars Virtual 5K I did in May, and I'm hoping my runDisney virtual medals and my OneOrlando virtual medal come in soon.

Well, already failed for the month. Only got to around 11,000 before I started throwing up and other fun things.

Am I allowed to make up steps later?

You are allowed to do whatever works for you!
And I hope you feel better soon!

I'm already a day late, but I"ll try to catch up!

My name is Becky and I'm at 45 year old wife and mom of 3. The oldest 2 are going to be a college freshman and sophomore this fall and youngest is entering his freshman year in HS. I've basically always felt overweight even though I probably technically wasn't until after I got married. I was just never the little size 2 or 4 like some of my friends, so I thought I was fat. Anyway, since youngest DS was born, I had basically stayed at the same weight (way overweight) until last summer when I gained about 10 pounds while on vacation. It never went away and I finally decided enough was enough. I was sick of being the fattest mom, the fattest wife, always winded and tired, etc. So, on February 16th and logged into MFP (again), started logging my food and found this group! Since then, I had lost 30 pounds until I went on vacation June 16th. When we got back, I stepped on the scale the next morning and had gained 6 pounds. I thought that was livable, but today I got on again (as I do every day) and I was down to a 3 pound gain, so I can definitely live with that!

My goal for this month is to lose 2 pounds a week for a total of 8 pounds for the month. I'm going to wait another day or 2 to make sure that I don't lose anymore of my vacation weight before getting my official start weight for the month. To accomplish this, I'm going to start logging my food again (which I had slacked off on even before vacation) and increase my activity, hopefully by walking with my sister most evenings after work.

My reminders are stepping on the scale each morning (or the fear of it during the day), my iwatch which vibrates if I haven't walked around at all during an hour, feeling how my clothes fit and logging on here each day. Thanks for all the motivation! You guys are all great!

I'm very excited about the walk through Disneyland. I had never been to California until 2 summers ago when we flew to San Francisco for a few days and drove down the coast to Disneyland. It was a great trip and we saw so many beautiful places including Disneyland. I'm still am not overly familiar with it, so I know I will learn lots of new things about your special place! Thanks for sharing!

I am not sure how as my motivation is down and I will need more support this month!

Here's some cheerleaders for you: :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

I'm going to try setting an alarm for every hour when I'm home to help remind myself to stop for 30 seconds and drink water

You could easily get the 8 glasses of water for this in just a regular day. And lots of bathroom breaks :D

Nothing earth shattering- I weigh myself each morning to keep track of my progress. I log all my food in MFP and I wear a Fitbit Charge HR to track my steps.

Same! The fitbit and MFP are excellent tools to really see where you're at.

Oh, and I haven't been to Disneyland since college, 20 years ago or so. I didn't know about the apartment until we watched a Walt Disney documentary a few weeks ago. Too bad it can't be toured anymore.

I have never been to Walt's apartment, I knew it was there but I didn't know it ever had tours. Now you have me intrigued!!!

I put your response together since you said similar things ;)

It was part of the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour- which now includes the Dream Suite and used to take you into the lobby of Club 33 and Walt's Apartment. Sadly it's one thing I never got to do due to cost :(

So true... The mirror is bad but photos are worst!

Dude. Photos are what inspired me to lose weight. They're harsh.

Well, already failed for the month. Only got to around 11,000 before I started throwing up and other fun things.

Am I allowed to make up steps later?

I think your goal was 70,000 for the week, right? So as long as you make the 70,000 each week I think you should be okay :P

I knew the story about the light in the apartment window when we went to DL in 2005 and I made a SPECIAL POINT to stop for a moment and think of Walt when I entered DL for the first time.

:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc

We do the same thing every time we pass the firehouse! Hubs and I wave goodbye to Walt when we leave.

I'm already a day late, but I"ll try to catch up!

Welcome! I got you added to the list.
