okay so I just bought my first cricut. I want to make my daughters some felt Disney princesses. Has anyone made the Disney characters with the cricut? How did you do the outfits?

Sorry I was away this weekend; so just getting back to this area of the boards.

First for most of the characters (Fab 5) you can cut them really at any size and they go together fairly easy. From several years of experience please note to cut for all pieces the base for all of them so that putting the layers on will be much easier for placement. (The base layer has the definition area (cuts and highlights) to show placement -- it will be just push the button for the character and hit cut --- no other key pushed down). Then you will cut each additional layer based on the various keys. Now some selections will have 2 things so you may have to cut 2 different colors of the same key (for instance the Mickey and Minnie together on page 93 of the Mickey and Friends cart has Mickey's shorts and Minnie's dress on the one button.... so you will have to cut that button twice in 2 different colors).... I have cut the Mickey and Friends characters as small as 3" but bigger is better!

However, with the Princess Carts (Happily Ever After and Dreams Come True) - cut BIGGER and remember the base piece!!! Do not even attempt smaller ones.. they are difficult when they are smaller; I've tried and finally just through it out and started over w/ a bigger size. The eyes are awful too... I have had to make my own eyes with pens as there are times the eyes look "evil" and not Princess like.

I have not cut with felt or fabric but I do know from some research that you will need to put some sort of stabilizer on it like heat n' bond or the like that you can iron on.. Here is an article I found on it: http://sisterssuitcaseblog.com/2015/04/how-to-cut-felt-with-the-cricut-explore.html

This talks about Design space (the computer software you can use with the Cricut Explore) the same principles would apply though to utilize the stabilizer and just the use of the cartridge.

I also found this video that might help too..

I hope that helps.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

As for the outfits - they are done based on the different buttons on the cartridge keys.

Which cricut do you have? I can help more based on which model you have. I have had the baby bug, create, Expression, and currently the E2. I still have access to all but the baby bug. I do have several friends with the new Explore so I can get help with that too.

I also have a silhouette cameo that I dearly love... I can cut svg files and make some really cool this (which can also be done with the cricut explore).

I have the new explore air. So there are no buttons or keyboards used. It is all done in cricut design space. Do you think if I bought iron on transfer material I could use that on top of the felt to cut? I know the iron on works on felt since I've done that before. I suppose I would just cut the base character. I haven't used a cricut to cut it the felt/iron on. It's one of the main reasons I finally bought a cricut. Cutting by hand is taking a long time. And I do a lot of cutting.

Have you ever tried using the everyday paper doll cartridge to cut princess outfits?
