UK DIS Meet - who would be interested?

Hey everyone

I've been on the boards for a while now but don't post too often, instead just like looking at people's ideas and photos from trips really but watch the DISunplugged every week and when they have their meets I'm always so jealous that they're not in the UK so I thought, who'd be up for having one?

I'm not sure if anyone has done anything like it before and if it went well? I wasn't thinking of a charity event but maybe if there was enough of us we could hire a function room for an evening, have dinner and perhaps a disco and meet some new friends.

I work at a place that has a great function room and if we could get 100 people (don't know if that's a bit ambitious, I'd hope not) we could probably have a 3 course meal and disco for £25 per person and if we had it where I work depending on the time of year I could probably get a good discount on rooms to maybe £70 B&B (out of season of course). If successful we could make it an annual thing and move around the country if people would be up for it.

So, what do you think? Be great to gage the interest before looking at it further...

It's a lovely idea but I think you are being a little optimistic with numbers.

There have been some UK DIS meets over the years. The most recent one was earlier this year.

I think they have all been in the south of England although I have a feeling there was one further north.

These boards have become fairly quiet - I don't know why. But the meets have usually attracted in the region of 25 people.

I would love to go to a UK DIS Meet.

I guess it would be a case of setting a date, good amount of time ahead so it gives time to get more people involved.

I missed the last get together but would love to put faces to names so to speak.

(guessing this might have been forgotten about being as it was posted last year now)

Tony very kindly usually organises an annual meet - it used to be held at Kingston (south London) but last summer was held at Bristol.

Whereabouts in the UK are you? A few years ago someone was trying to organise a meet up north (think it was Manchester?) but I don't think it ever took off ..... don't know why, whether it was lack of interest, or just logistics. If you search you should be able to find the posts.

I tried this and it was a little bit of both. It was just incredibly hard to find any date that more than a couple of people could make.

We had one in Sheffield years ago - think about 20 people turned up.......

I'd definitely be interested in a Newcastle Dis Meet!

I know this thread has kind of died a little, but one up north (e.g. Newcastle) sounds fab!

I would love to meet as many of your lovely faces as possible. Alas, I will only be visiting for a few weeks in October. Please keep us posted if you have anything planned for then?

I'd be very interested in a UK dis meet up for sure!

I live about 25 minutes from London in Reading.

I'm another "yes" for London (although of the others mentioned Brighton could also be a possible).

Hi! :wave2:

UK would be the closest DIS Meet for me. So yes I'm all in on that idea! party:

I'm going to be following this thread for sure! :thumbsup2

:tinker:

Hi Guys

This is an old thread from 2014, to be perfectly honest as much as I would love to think a meet could and would take place, I just dont think there is the traffic on here anymore to get it organised, so for now Im going to close this thread as its 18 months old and to save new posters thinking a meet is being organised.

Lets hope something can be organised for the future:goodvibes
