What does everyone think of Disney's casting choice for the live-action Mary Poppins?

Not that I am aware of. I believe the last work was the 60's movie. Although, I am sure there was some kind of sing-along at some point.

It is a sequel as well so not a remake. They are only saying live-action because it isn't animated and since Disney is more associated with animation they usually put live-action in front of anything that isn't animation.

They only state "live-action" when it's a remake/reboot of an existing animated movie. It's not a sequel, Emily Blunt IS Mary Poppins in the remake.

Mary Poppins wasn't an animated movie though. It was all people except one scene. It happens 20 years after the original and is rumored to catch up with Michael Banks who now has his own children. Some call it a remake since the actors are changing but really if it follows the original story but years later that is more like a sequel and not a remake.

It is a sequel, which sounds like it should be a terrible idea...but with the talent at Disney right now, I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt here. We'll see.

I LOVE Emily Blunt so this is exciting to me!!!

What I am ticked about is another Dalmation project! Glenn Close was the best Cruella in the first movie... WHY DO WE NEED ANOTHER REMAKE?

I am also excited about Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins! She is fantastic - and since there were a few Mary Poppins books, I am not opposed to either sequel or remake.

I am so excited about Lin!! And the music is by Shaiman and Whitman so I have high hopes for it!

I hope it's better than their attempt at bringing it to Broadway. Dreadful!

The Broadway show was actually pretty successful. It got 7 Tony Award nominations and ran from 2006-2013 years. Those are pretty good numbers for a Broadway show when most struggle to even make it 6 months. It wasn't just the Disney name that carried it either because The Little Mermaid and Tarzan didn't make it nearly as long.

I know the show did well. I personally hated it and walked out at intermission. Tarzan was even worse!

I love Lin-Manuel Miranda and can't wait to see him.

Emily Blunt...I don't think the choice could be worse. They found someone British with brown hair and called it a day I guess.

I think that Emily Blunt looks too young, but that's probably just Hollywood trying to keep actresses looking like children. In fact, early 30's is probably perfect for Mary Poppins. Young enough to get down and have fun with the kids and old enough to be a practically perfect nanny with plenty of experience.
