I'm sorry if this might be a dumb question.......but is magicband only for resort guests? What if I want a magic band for all purchases, etc at the park? Thank you!
 


If you receive them in advance. Can they be used for park admission and dinning prior to checking in at your resort?
 
He just turned 12 so he can't have his own account. I'm just worried that if we use his information under his moms account then we won't have access to change stuff for him or pay bills that he charges to the magic band ect. His mom and I don't exactly get along either. I'll prob just end up calling Disney about it but thank you for the reply.

Call Tech support to see IF the profiles for him could be merged somehow.

It's totally possible that "no" will be the answer.

If it's "no", then he just uses the MB for this trip for the trips he takes with you. And the ones from mom's trips with mom.

For package deals, Stop at guest relations if you did not get a room number yet and they can help activate any tickets and dining plan early. I'm not 100% certain if you can room charge prior to getting a room number so make sure you ask when getting your tickets activated. Guest relations is found outside of every park between security and the ticket "turnstyle".

If it's just tickets and they were purchased separate, they do not need to be activated.

If I'm flying in next friday @ 11pm, and taking ME to check into POP *hopefully* sometime before midnight, and I have a 1 day comp ticket waiting at Guest Services at MK the next morning (which is my birthday) , and I have a 1.4 year old MB, could guest services link my ticket and room to my band or should I skip it and just use my card for the room and paper comp ticket? AAAAAAAND, will I be able to make FP reservations with a 1 day comp ticket using MDE? TIA for any info!

nothing gets linked to a band. everything gets linked to a person and "people" are in your MDE. if you can put it into mde and link it to yourself then you can use it. Do you have a confirmation number for your ticket and/or stay? try linking it to mde..

Not yet. I booked my flight and am waiting for my friend to send me my confirmation email. About to book room and will check that. THANKS!
 
There is a special effect magic band (star wars themed) that is given free to resort guests who book a trip using the Awaken Summer Promotion. This is the first time an effects band has been made available like this. This promotion is the only way to get it.

"When you create a package by adding a minimum 2-Day Magic Your Way ticket, each member of your group will receive a special “Awaken Summer” MagicBand for use during your stay. Not only will you experience the convenience of a MagicBand, but for a limited time, this one-of-a-kind MagicBand will activate a surprise sound and lighting feature at select touch points throughout the Walt Disney World Resort."

This is so much great information. Thanks! But I still have a question. You use the Magic Bands for your FP+. Does the Magic Band have any sort of "display" where you see what time your FP reservation is at? From the pictures, it doesn't look like it. So how do you know when your FP+ reservations are for? Do you have to download the app?

Also, we are getting MBs with our on-site stay and they will come in the mail a few weeks before the trip. But what if I want a cute one that isn't just the standard pink or purple or whatever color? Like, what if I want a Marie from Aristocats one? Can I buy it in the park and then transfer everything from the old MB to the new one? I saw a website that had some MB covers that you put over your standard MB but it sounded like those are on the way out in favor of the MBs that have preprinted pictures on them. Is that true, or will I be able to find MB covers at the parks?

No. Think of it as a wearable ticket and room key. Very basic.

So how do you know when your FP+ reservations are for? Do you have to download the app?

You can use the app, stop by a kiosk (there's not many and they do close if they run out of fastpasses), the website, write them down. You can actually request more during the day so I recommend the app. You can also see all your adrs, make changes, etc etc. It's handy. There is free wifi in the resort and parks so you can use that to save on your data plan (and great for international travelers that don't want their phone enabled for cost reasons).

I think you mean the customization you can do on your own when you talk about covers. an example of this is the ones you can purchase from magicyourband.com and those are third party and not sold in the park. They are just high quality stickers you put onto a magic band that you have.

You'll see magic bands all over the place for sale and a couple spots where you can kind of design your own customized one. The cashier will help you link it to your account when you purchase it and everything will work from both bands. Sometimes park purchased bands do not work with resort doors or charging to your room. Just stop by the front desk if that happens. Lately it's been better and they work right away. The park features like tickets and fastpass will always work right away.

To be technically accurate, you don't actually transfer anything. All your plans, fastpasses, and everything is linked to you. The magic band also links to you and the disney system just looks up what you have when you use it. any bands you have will work even if it's 20 of them.

2. I'll admit that I haven't been to WDW since FP+ started, but I can't imagine how someone could use it in the parks without downloading the app.

3. Nothing is "on" a Magic Band - they're just keys to access what's in your MDE account. You can buy a specialty one at the parks (or from the online store or the Shop Disney Parks app), link it to your MDE account, and then that band as well as the one you get with your reservation will both access all the information in your MDE account.

4. I don't know if the covers are on their way out.

Prior to the changes a few weeks ago, you could just use the kiosk get your three and then you had to keep going back to the kiosk if you wanted more. Now that more can happen from the app without a kiosk I agree, you kind of need it. The kiosks are still there but I've seen them closed late at night so you can't rely on that option and the parks are too large to keep going to find someone to help, which is usually at guest relations.
 
I just read through your first page and saw the warning about internal batteries wearing out. Our bands are from our trip 2 years ago and I cancelled the free ones that were offered to me on this trip since we already had ours. Now I'm wondering if we are going to get our ride pics from Memory Maker. How quickly do the pics show up in your account after you ride? I'm guessing this will be the only way to tell if our batteries are still functioning. Two years ago you still had to stop at the photo stand after a ride to link your pic to your account. Are you still able to do that under the new ride pic system?

how close is your trip? you can change your mind and get the second set just in case. Also they are thinner now and more comfortable and you may just want to get them anyway for that reason... Just go back in and customize them again to re-enable getting them.. I would not trust them if the ride photos are important. everything else your good!

Most rides still have the screens to see your picture and you can tap them with your band to add to your account. it's the rides with video of you riding it and 7dmt where there is no screens. They show up in the app pretty quick, assuming the app is working because it can be flaky... They' already announced changes coming to the exit of some rides but they didn't say what that is.. I suspect after this year we'll see most of the screens gone..

We are staying at BLT and I'm wondering if they would have them in the shop at the Contemporary? We should be at the resort by noon, but aren't planning on heading into MK until around 5:00pm so that would give me some time to get them replaced.
