Am I losing it, or is Disney? Cancelled Reservation missing funds help

I'll try to make this quick and to the point! I made a reservation back in February for a September vacation, paid in full. $3887
Then free dining was released. Tried to add it to reservation, and could not. So I made a new reservation. The total was $3800 and I put down $200. Bringing my new balance to $3600.
I called Disney and asked to cancel the original reservation and put that money towards the new one.
Yesterday I checked my account and I had a credit from Disney for $87. I'm puzzled...shouldn't it be $287? Am I losing it?

3887+200= 4087
4087-3800= 287

What am I missing. I'm more than 100 days out from my trip, so I should still be able to get a refund, right?

Also, all payments were made on the same card. If that makes a difference.

Did you pay in installments? If so, they might be refunding one installment at a time.

You said "paid in full 3887" but then listed is as 4087. which one is it? If you paid in full at 3887 then the refund of the difference is only 87.

It seems the OP paid $3,887 first, then put a $200 on the second reservation so a total payment of $4,087 for a $3,800 reservation.

3887+200= 4087
4087-3800= 287

You are correct - it should be $287. Maybe they will refund the $200 separately. I would call.

did the $200 second deposit post yet? They can't refund it if the charge didn't post to your card.

Since you applied the $200 deposit for the second booking to the top line here, the $3800 on the bottom line should be only $3600. You're double-dipping the deposit for the second booking.

Hmmm..I'm not following what you mean by double dipping. $4087 is the total amount of money I've given to Disney. $3800 is the cost of my package.

I didn't think/realize they would transfer the money from one reservation over to a new one. I thought they would only refund and then you'd have to repay?

I will, thank you! I tried about an hour ago and the wait time was 30 min. So I thought I would try here first.

I also was under the impression they refund back and didn't move it to a new reservation . Have you checked your credit cards to see if it got refunded there?

That's what I thought too! But when I called the cast member suggested I just transfer funds..so I did. No I'm thinking I probably should have just done it the other way.

Yeah, I'm not sure if they changed some policy or what, but they did it for me. The cast member suggested it.
I paid for everything with one card/account, nothing there other than the $87.

Disney can transfer funds from a package to a package or from a "room only" to a "room only". If you are converting from a "room only" to a package, your funds must be refunded back to your original form of payment and a new payment applied to the new reservation.

Refunds are processed as they are originally paid. Did you pay the $3887 in one payment? If you paid the $200 deposit separately, it will refund that exact amount back to your card. The official policy is "It can take up to 1-2 paper billing cycles to see the refund on your paper statement."

If you don't see your credit by the end of the week you may want to call Research & Billing directly at 407-828-5630 option 3. The cast members at the Disney Reservation Center don't have access to view the exact status of your refund. Research & billing does. Good luck!

I once had Disney double charge the 200$ initial deposit about a week after I paid my reservation in full... Took 6 weeks for them to finally refund the $ and 3-4 phone calls.

Thanks everyone for all your help and advice! Spoke with a cast member this morning. She couldn't see my original/cancelled reservation at all. So I really got nowhere there! Frustrating.
Probably should've checked here first and called billing like someone suggested. I never knew there was a separate dept I could call!

But I just checked my account and the $200 was finally deposited this afternoon. I guess I just need to work on being a little more patient!

They can transfer money if it's the same type of reservation. Package to a package...room only to room only.

Money is returned in reverse. For example, balance one day, then deposit the next.
