2016 Gay Days at WDW - 26th Anniversary!

Thanks so much for your time and thoughtful response FarCityGuy.

Some of our families were concerned that there'd be so many people in red, it'd be harder to find their children in the Magic Kingdom. (Perhaps we're over-estimating the volume of red shirts in MK?) We only have one day (sat in MK) where all our families are wearing the same reunion t-shirt. I think our families are excited to be in MK for GayDays, and we're looking at additional ways to be visibly supportive such as rainbow pins, necklaces, etc.

Also, I'm surprised to read about the negative criticism, but perhaps I'm in a bubble of naive inclusiveness. Hearing that other parks may not enjoy as much "red support" on the other days, I'll plan to bring something red to wear. Love is love.

Thanks again, very much for your insights. We're quite excited to celebrate with you. :)
You will see a LOT of red shirts in the MK on Saturday, June 4th. But, I honestly cannot tell you whether or not that will make a huge difference in being able to find your children. Maybe somebody planning to attend with children will see your post and be able to offer you some advice. Thanks for your support! Come prepared to have a fun time!

Just finished paying for our group. We have six attending, staying at the Contemporary (three in the Atrium Club, three in the Garden Wing), from the 29th to the 5th.
Cool deal! Get ready to have a fun time! Be sure to check out the details above concerning the monorail crawl on Wednesday, June 1st! dano4 has done a great job of organizing what is sure to become an annual event highlight!

Just 30 more days until check-in! :yay:
The anticipation of gay days getting here is so much fun! It's kind of like being a kid and having to wait to unwrap the presents. The saddest part is when it is all over, and you realize that you have to wait an entire year for it to come around again.

Hey everyone! I'm so thrilled that our visit happens to coincide with Gay Days! I'm coordinating a group of about 6 families with young children, and some may not know about gay days. After reading the gaydays website, I hope you might fill me in on a few planning tidbits:

1) Is wearing a red shirt are just for LGBTQ persons? Are allies of all ages are invited to wear red or perhaps a differently supportive color? I'm just ignorant about the color designations.
2) Does everyone wear red to the designated gay day parks, or is red just for Saturday at the Magic Kingdom?
3) I want to share with my families what it might be like for gays days in the Disney parks. I'm assuming lots of welcome cheeriness, but I've never been to know. Is there anything I should tell my families? I have a few families with young children in the autistic spectrum, is there anything that would be startling if they wore red (ie; a sudden big hug), or were simply sharing magical fun at the parks?

I hope everyone has a wonderful time in community and celebration!

Just to add to what Far City Guy has said, last year I attended with a group of 16 people. I was the only gay person in the bunch. The group included a newborn, three 6 year olds (2 girls 1 boy), and two teen males. Everyone had a wonderful time. There were no "gay issues" as such. Everyone chatted with people in ride queues and it was like any other day in the Magic Kingdom, and the same was true of the other parks, which we also hit on their designated days. As long you realize you will likely see the same behavior from some gay people that your see from some straight people in the parks, everything should be just fine.

Itinerary for the June 01, 2016 Monorail Crawl

I hope that you can join us and please pass this on to your friends that aren't part of the DIS. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here or find me on facebook. https://www.facebook.com/danielphawleyjr
This post appears on page #4. I thought it may be a good idea to copy and paste it again in case somebody doesn't take the time to read through all of the pages. The monorail crawl not only provides a chance for good food and drink, but also a great time to meet up with some old friends or to make some new ones!

We just booked last week - kind of at the last minute. Haven't been to WDW since 2013. We are staying at Coronado Springs. It's the only moderate I haven't stayed at, so looking forward to the resort. We're doing Riptide @ Typhoon Lagoon and are considering the Main Event @ Hollywood Studios, though it sounds like only two of the attractions will be open and the rest of the evening be a big street party. Anyone else considering going to the Main Event @ HS?

Also looking forward to Drinking Around the World @ Epcot on that Sunday. We always start at noon with a group in Mexico and travel through the countries, stopping for Pizza in Italy. Such a blast!

I have my ticket for the Main Event at HS and Deep at Epcot. On the fence about Riptide.

For those who won't be in town for the monorail crawl on Wednesday night, some of us have been talking about trying to get some of our disboard friends together at the MK on Saturday, June 4th. Maybe a "gay cruise" on the jungle river cruise ride? LOL! Corny, I know. But, at least there is kind of a theme connected with it. Thinking either around 11am or after the afternoon parade finishes.

Thanks y'all! Our large group decided to do both red and green shirts, since some parents were concerned they might lose sight of their wee ones in the sea of red and some really wanted a "mardi gras" color scheme. (We're a NOLA-based reunion group.) We're also planning on rainbow leis to be festively supportive. Of course, with little kids I don't know how long leis will actually stay on before being thrown around or at a sibling. Maybe rainbow stickers would be better.

Saturday I'll be in a red shirt with our Obnoxious Group Design "Fleur-de-Vader," a rainbow lei and a "Rumors of Light" Lounge DISThread button. Maybe an R2D2 backpack too, pending weather. I'm super excited that I have a red shirt planned for Hollywood Studios/ Star Wars day; it already has a stormtrooper on it! Still working on a themed red shirt for Animal Kingdom.

Please feel very welcome to say hi if you see us while in line, chill in' out, etc. much love, support and joyful wishes to all!

We will be there in the afternoon, keep me posted!

Sounds like a plan maybe we should get fast passes for jungle cruise, or if not the standby could be fun with a group of us anyway

Oh, I don't think I would use a fast pass on the jungle river cruise. LOL! My experience has been that the wait time for it is usually not all that long. Of all of the attractions that have been at the MK since I was a kid, it kind of surprises me that this one has survived for so many years. That's probably why I still ride it, though, because I can still remember riding it when I was just a kid. And, the Country Bear Jamboree is still fun, especially when all of the bears get together and can even sing along with the cast.

I hear ya and agree on all points! I didn't realize it was a short wait though, seems sometimes old attractions have long wait times for some odd reason, yeah I went to wdw in the 70s a couple of times and remember all the old rides, haven't been on Jungle cruise in a very long time! I think a meet up would be fun! See you at 4:30, keep us posted! Todd & James.

That sounds like fun. I don't think I've ever seen the Country Bear Jamboree :P
