Solo Dining Reservations

If I want to make a few table reservations for little ol' me, do I need to make it for 2 people? I have read that trying to make reservations for 1 usually results in zero availability, but I don't know if that is correct.

I always check for one person first, and if it tells me there's nothing or only at bad times, I check again for two.

If you're reserving for things that require pre-payment (CRT, dinner shows, dessert parties) then you only want to search for one, otherwise you'll pay for two people.

Agreed. Start with 1 and see what's available . I think there may be some places harder to get for 1, but for the most part I've never had trouble getting a time for 1 I was happy with.

No pre-pays. I would not want to choose something where I might actually be taking up a spot somebody else can have. A table for two at restaurant would be my limit as I would get that same table regardless.

oh seriously, if you want to eat at a particular restaurant, just make the reservation and dont worry about any one else. Why should you feel guilty or think oh no Im only a solo diner I cant eat at that restaurant, thats just absurd!!!

I think you might have missed something in my comment. ;) My point is that I would not reserve a spot a Dessert Party or something like that where I know the seat will not be used and they are hard to get. I don't have issues with a two top table at a restaurant as that is the smallest they get.

Book what you want, don't worry about the total seat issue. Lots of Disney restaurants have only 4 tops - so solo you will get one of those. There are some 2 Tops, but not every restaurant has them. I've booked "special parties" as a solo - and never felt bad. My last trip, I did a dessert party solo - and yep - I used a table for 4. They didn't have anything smaller and I wasn't going to stand!

I've always booked everything as a party of one. I've personally never experienced that it was easier to get a table for 2. I've found it easier to get a table of 1!

@kwdw exactly, I dont worry about restaurants only having a 2 top and what if I take up a 4 top... so what if I take up a 4 top or a booth, if I want to eat in a restaurant, I eat in that restaurant.

I've had really good luck with single person reservations. I've been able to get in everywhere I want to get in to. Sometimes you just have to keep checking back. Good luck and have fun.

I've had 0 problems making a reservation for myself. Got one for BOG breakfast, and the afternoon tea. I would just call and ask. :)

I've had to make ressies for 2 then call and get them switched to one.

Thank you to each of you for your kind & helpful responses. :)

I've done lots of solo table service, character breakfasts, and dinner shows where I had no problems with the Disney online reservation accepting/searching for "1".
However, I did have problems with the 'Ohana Character breakfast (Lilo and Stitch) searching for "1". I kept getting the message there was no availability...until I switched the search for "2".

I just wanted tho share that this was my experience also. Ohana is the only restaurant where I have had an issue as a solo diner, and had to search for a party of 2.

ditto everyone else; I've never had a problem with entering 1 in the reservation system and getting availability for table service at any restaurant. I've also had some of the best customer service being solo--of special note--Via Napoli, Chefs de France, Yak & Yeti, and Hollywood Brown Derby. Reserve away I say!

Yes, I've had it confirmed by multiple CMs that for whatever reason 'Ohana will not show availability for 1 (it occasionally has issues with all odd-numbered parties, but parties of 1 especially). You can certainly book that for 2 and will not be charged for the ghost. :)

For my solo trip, reservations for 1 have been hit or miss. I was able to get The Wave for one, but Morimoto's would not book for less than 2 people. It may depend on the popularity. I searched for BOG and had no hits for one but two hits for 2 people searching for 'dinner' on the same day.

When I did my search at 180 days, knowing I wanted 'Ohana breakfast I just searched 2 for everything (other than the two meals I needed 3 for because I'm meeting friends). Once secured, I went into the change option and if the same time (or say within 10 minutes) was available for 1 I changed it. Otherwise I left it as 2 and will just have a ghost join me as at 'Ohana! :)

I only had one problem booking an ADR for one last year and that was dinner at Ohana which was fine when I entered 2

How was your experience solo at Ohana? The last time I'd been to Ohana was close to ten years ago and I remember the food being delicious but I see the menu has changed quite a lot since then and I've been hesitant about rebooking because of the reviews about inconsistent service and food quality. I've got a solo trip planned this fall and have been on the fence about booking this for my birthday dinner
