February 2016 Pre-trip and Trip Reports

If you notice in the pic, the dirt is brushed off, he cleverly covers them back up after taking the pic so no one else can find them.:thumbsup2

Then they should be easy to find, snowmedic. Look for pavement partially covered by dirt. All the wide open pavement can be skipped. Sure 'nuff!

Ed - So close enough to the golden squirrel! Yeah, it stinks we won't get to meet up and show off my new truck or to see the transformation of the golf cart from last year (seriously looks better in person.) Easy to find but in one of the many corners of FW. Yeah, would need at least a year or range of years to figure out which refurbishment was going on when you got away with it. Either that or you are posting a picture from your own yard and playing them all ;).

Never thought of that, jbrostek. But I am being honest as the day is long that they are at the Fort.

Bama Ed

Hrm, I wonder if I could somehow mask a bobcat as a golf cart to start digging (pretty sure FW staff might actually say no to 183 foot deep holes all over the place though.)

August eh? Will be back down there in August as well!

Well I've been searching for a while now, I had some problems shaking Tiggerdad's little spys, but I did.

I think he's returning to base camp,
So the search continues,

Haha, guess what I found......

Wait for it......

Wait for it......

Wait a little longer....

Ah

I found it! No wait a minute, hold on just a second here! Tiggerdad had his little furry friends trick me!!!

Or did I trick them!?......

That's right ladies and gentlemen I found the world famous Bama_Ed's Ed!!

All I'm saying is that it is here and not in his driveway, (I might had made a comment). That's right folks the man is tell us the truth! Ed, am I the first to find it? It's there a prize? Neat stuff, I'm standing where a Legend once stood and made his mark! I'm looking around for the marching band, Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy and the rest of the Gang to come out of the wood work and celebrate this historical milestone!

Tiggerdad, I'm sorry brother but your little furry friends couldn't stop me! Maybe one day you to will be able to find the mark of a real genuine DIS board Legend and stand in the spot I stand in now!

My only advice Tiggerdad is to follow the Force, not the squirrels, and you to shall be able to find this legendary spot. And look between the Outpost and the Marina.

Randy, congrats!

I noticed you touched on a possible conspiracy theory about my driveway back home but I forgive you. Yep, you're the first. It's right there where I always said it was. The only prize you get is the pride of a job well done. Sorry I couldn't afford a $10,000 X-Prize or something like that.

The other treasure hunters are going to have to step up their efforts. I think a few of them will hack into NASA's supercomputers to try to calculate the exact location given the angle of the sun, shadows, gravitational constant, relative humidity, and odds of Bama winning the Nattie next year.

Please let's keep this between us and not reveal its location. That would steal the joy from others and I know you aren't mean like that.

Bama Ed

PS - Bet the people on the boat were wondering why you were taking a picture of your finger though....

Well there he goes! Good on you Randy.

Making me look bad. Now I gotta find something else to do when I'm there.

Yes they were, I was getting some funny looks.

No I'm not, don't worry your secret is safe with me.

But I'll bet Tiggerdad's tractor, I'm going to pick on him about it, at least for a while!

Yes, you beat Vince and I to the prize. However, I still got to lay my hands on some old Fort Wilderness Railroad steel and I am among the few who have actually shook hands with the legend...Rusty.

You realize with this trip you now have more Fort Wilderness experience than I do.

Now, with that said, I realize tonight is that night that we all dread the most: the last night before you have to leave. Great job man, thanks for taking the time to keep us up to date and sharing your pranks and accomplishments with us. You guys be safe traveling home and you'll have your chance to rub it in come March at Demopolis.

P.S.
That reminds me. Back in 1999, while fishing some low pools on the backside of the falls I carved my initials in the rock bottom. We may have to try and see about going out there for a look if the river isn't flooded.

Well it's almost time to pack it all in and head home and hand the TP duties on to jbrostek and PaHunter. I hope I've done well for everyone.

We all gathered at my mother in laws camper to have a fish fry and so homemade ice cream. We're all ready to book again and plan our next trip here to the Fort.

Awesome TR this week Randy, loved following. Have a safe trip home. Have a few more days and we will be rocking at the fort.

Pa, they predicting some -40 degree temps and lake effect snow around the northeast this week. Be ready to dig some more.

Thanks Randy for the great TR and pics. I had to drop off most of this week due to a regulatory compliance survey all week. 12-14 hour days suck unless you're at the Fort.

It looks like your M-i-l is a convert to the Fort now. Good job!

Have a good trip back and start planning the next trip. We'll see you at GSP and you can tell me where "ED" left his mark. :D

It is currently 6 degrees with a wind of 8mph making for a -7 windchill. Winds are to get upward of 55mph later and temps are dropping which will make it pretty cold outside.

We woke up this morning talking about our next trip to the Fort and washing clothes.

Here's a few last pictures from our trip.

We had a all kind of stuff, Red Snapper baked bean, potato salad, fried chicken tenders just to name a few, oh and home made ice cream.

They was happy just to be back on the bus after a day at EPCOT.

Had a bunch of "Roll Tides" at MK in this shirt.

I had mentioned that I had my DW make me a Mickey/Alabama shirt.
Well this wraps up my part of the February TR, ready to sit back and follow every one else on their trips.

Great pics Randy,

Thanks for the cardinal pic. I'm sure you did that because baseball season is right around the corner and you were paying your respects to the St Louis team. Much appreciated. :yay:

And is that the DW and DS on the bus pic? My DS will love having someone to goof off with. Despite being 18, he acts much more like a 12 year old. Then again, don't all teenagers? And I look forward to meeting your DW at GSP. She's a little more attractive than you. (or me). :lmao:

Have a safe trip back and thanks for the great TR.
