renting out points

Hi,

Has anyone in the UK rented out their points via the dvc boards? if so, how did it work for you? Not thinking of it this year but maybe next

I did a few years ago, before you had to put it on the main US DVC site rather than the UK boards. It was fine. I was going to do it this year but because I hadn't got a trip planned at the time I hadn't been active enough in the previous 6 months to be allowed to post. On the off chance I mentioned I had some points spare on Facebook and got lots of requests from friends and some of their friends. Was able to rent out way more points than I had hoped for and it was great because I was dealing with people I knew or their friends.

That's my issue the one time I rented my points out before, it was to friends in the UK. Just not sure how it works renting out, potentially, to people I don't know in the US

You could always use David's Vacation Rentals - lots of people I know have used them and had no issues.

I have rented to the US and UK, on many occasions without incident. Basically I take a 10% deposit and then once a booking is confirmed and emailed to the renter a further deposit of 40% and then the remainder 8 weeks before arrival. If you or the renter wish you can also draw up contracts using Adobe Echosign, for your protection and and the renters, though you are dealing with fellow Disboarders and a certain amount of trust is required

We rented out our points many many times to both people in the UK and the USA and never had a problem. Ive rented to people on the boards, also through a third party US travel agent and Davids on these boards. The last 2 years I've used davids vacation, ok you can get a slightly higher price per point by doing it yourself but it's mega easy and hassle free to go through them.

Ive rented and transferred points, a few times, to other members in the past and found it brilliant!

I am hoping to do the same this year!

If you have any questions just ask!

We've rented our out through David's for the last two years and had no problems .:thumbsup2

I've done both directly (via the disboards) and using David's. Both have been fine, but having someone screening availability for me is great to avoid the inevitable people who don't understand you won't get a BCV villa for food and wine the week before it starts.

I put a post on Facebook and was inundated with requests from friends (and their friends). It worked really well. :)

I put mine on Dibb as wanted uk renters only as i was worried about renting elsewhere and never done it. Iv also sold first to davids but got £6 a point which is below what the average point sells for. Does give peace of mind though. I do have a contract now though as had someone cancel 3 months prior to their date and it was over £800 I had to refund and lost some of the points as were banked so ended up losing £400. Learnt my lesson being too trusting. As iv rented I know it's obviously a concern from the renters side as well.

I've rented spare points in the past and all the points for this UY because I don't plan to go back before 2017.
Be aware that there is a small chance of problems: if the renter trashes the room or cancels the credit card before checkout and leaves without paying, the owner might be considered responsible. There was a thread here on the Disboards of an owner whose account was blocked by DVC until the problem was fixed (I think it ended well). One post in many years, so not a very big risk, however it's there.

I've got 13$ per point, enough to cover MF for nearly three years to come.

You'll loose some money for Paypal commissions and then to change $ into £.
This year in Orlando I opened a Suntrust account, so I can receive money in $ and avoid some expenses. It may be worth considering if you think you'll rent DVC points often (it does not cost anything if you keep a minimum amount on the account).

Interesting thread. We have rented excess points in the past via the Dibb but it was only a few points. Due to illness causing major holiday rearrangements we've ended up with almost a years worth we can't use personally before they expire in November. Had looked at David's site but was unsure if it was OK with UK owners, but it obviously is! I'll go have a look at it, thank you.

Hi guys! Looking for some advice only joined the DVC last October & using it for the first time this month staying at the OKW, very excited!

My fiancé and I are looking at renting out some of our GF points for BW next September for our honeymoon. Anyone ever sold their points and brought someone else's points at the desired hotel or have you ever booked one another's members hotel for them using your own points? Was it easy or were there any issues?? Sorry to confuse you all!!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated though!

Thank you

The replies you received are of help I have rented over the years and found that trust is the key and always carry out instructions from those that are committed to renting from you that way you build on the trust and will have folks come back to rent again. It is a lot easier these days due to being able to check availability on line.

Hope this helps.
