Desperate for Disneyland Forever/PTN help!

I tried posting this in the super thread, but didn't get a response. Tomorrow we will be at Disneyland, and want to see both PTN and Disneyland Forever. We're happy seeing them by It's a Small World if that means lower waits and a better view. How early should we arrive and what spot should we look for? Should we see the first or second parade?

If you see the second parade by Small World, you'll have a much shorter wait and a great view. We got there an hour ahead of time and had perfect spots, but there were even plenty of spots open when it started. Not sure the best way to see the fireworks before that though, if you're not going to have a spot on the parade route.

In the super thread they mention making a reservation at carnation cafe to eat dinner and view the parade from the patio seats and from there pour into the street to view the fireworks once the parade passes. The catch is that you won't get a great view of the street performers. But your fireworks view will be good I believe. And if you want an unobstructed view with less of a wait, definitely try to see the second parade. We were there on Sunday and had great seats near IASW and arrived 15 minutes before the start of the parade. We watched the early fantasmic and then watched the fireworks from there with projections on the water. It was basically no waiting so a plus for us since we have 4 year old twins.

Oh and definitely ask the cms that are near IASW where would be a good seat. They are very helpful and directed us to some prime spots.

I don't know if things have changed, but this is not a guarantee and I wouldn't recommend it if you want to catch the parade or fireworks.

We had a reservation at Carnation Cafe during the Diamond Anniversary kickoff weekend in May, and hostess CM was explicitly clear that they were not taking seating requests -- it was first available table only. We were seated inside, towards the front of the restaurant, at a booth with a high back blocking the view to Main Street. All my wife, who was seated facing Main Street, could see was the very tops of the PtN floats. That wasn't a big deal, as we had planned on catching the second parade, but our server was slow settling our check and we missed the very beginning of Disneyland Forever, which runs only once a night. The fireworks begin very shortly after the first PtN ends. Again, our view of the projections on the Main Street buildings were obstructed by the back of our bench. We eventually spilled out onto the middle of Main Street and made our way into the crowd to watch DF. We didn't get to see the projections on the castle, but did see the projections on the Main Street buildings and the fireworks.

Aside from our particular seat, I don't see how there is a good view from inside the restaurant or even the back of the patio; you'd really have to be seated at an outdoor table right at the sidewalk, which seemed to us like it would be a very unpleasant experience. The sidewalk is jammed with crowds of people trying to push through or lurk before and after the shows. Even seated outside, you'd be watching the parade through that walkway of people and then a standing crowd of about four people thick also watching the parade. Again, there's no guarantee you can get out of Carnation Cafe in time for DF, and while you can probably see the projections better from the patio, as they are higher, you will not be able to see much of the fireworks or the castle.

I'd agree with the suggestion to catch the second PtN parade if there is one. We did, and the wait to stake out a front row spot was much shorter compared to the crowds that had camped out hours before for the first parade.

I was there at a very busy time this year and was able to get good front row spots for the first parade near IASW about an hour before the show. I would say there were still good spots open for another 20 minutes or so after that. After that there weren't any front row spots left, but there were still good areas to sit/stand and get a good view. I'm glad I went towards IASW, the area around Main St. was just a total mess of people.

After the parade, you can stay in the same spot to watch the fireworks. If you are positioned right, you can see the projections on IASW in front of you and the Matterhorn behind you. It was a good view of the fireworks themselves because they are right over Toontown. Also, I have watched fireworks from the hub and you are packed in like sardines, not fun. Here there was plenty of breathing room.

By the way... which Superthread? We don't have an actual Superthread for Paint the Night and Disneyland Forever. There are various discussion threads all around this forum about those events, but not a Superthread.

About a month ago, we did both the Carnation Cafe trick and then watched the parade and FW from IASW. We had no problem requesting a table on the patio and in fact, we got the table in the center right at the fence. We saw the parade ok and then joined the throngs of people on Main Street for the fireworks. It was OK, but hard to see the castle. I was fine with it until the a couple of nights later when we saw it from IASW. We were right in the front there and were among the first to sit down about 90 minutes early. We just asked a CM where the best place to be was and she pointed to a spot where the tan bricks make a pathway that leads up to IASW. There were definitely spots available for the next 30 minutes or so and that was a busy week. We loved the parade from there! Then we just stood up and moved as close to IASW as we could (which was maybe 50 feet from where we saw the parade) and enjoyed the FW from there. We did have to turn around to see some of the stuff happening closer to the castle and you didn't have a great view of them. But I liked being there where the projections and FW were in front of you for the most part than on Main Street where it was more visual over load because there were things happening all around you.

Good luck!

I'm currently sitting across from IASW waiting for the parade to start (we're about an hour out). We got here 80 minutes early and there were barely any front row or bench/elevated spots. It's pretty crowded now. I'll update you guys later on how to fireworks go!

We watched the fireworks and PTN last August 12th and 14th. On August 12th, we had reservations on Carnation Cafe at 8. We were seated inside, and I keep standing up and checking on the status of the parade. My DD ended up getting a chocolate shake to drag our reservation out a bit. Earlier in the day we decided that we wanted to be on the hub in direct line with the Matterhorn and to the right of the castle (just a bit). So at about 9:15 we left CC and headed up Main Street, waited to cross over to the Plaza Inn, walked past ST (until you can actually cross), and then stood by the rocks until the ropes were dropped. All this while NOT trying to see the parade. We wanted to see it for the first time from beginning to end. As soon as the ropes were dropped, off we went, and got the perfect spot. There was a technical difficulty that night because Nemo and Tink were not present. As soon as the fireworks stopped we found a spot on the curb next to where people cross through the hub. Two days later we just made sure we were by the rocks by 9:20, and stood in the same spot for the fireworks. Tink and Nemo were present for this show. Yeah! Then sat a bit closer to the castle for PTN, but still on the curb of the hub. The fireworks show is AMAZING!

Personally, I don't think eating at Carnation Cafe will give a good view of the parade. If you're going to watch it from the it's a Small World mall, then you should probably get there around 7:30, and grab a bite to eat while you wait. After the parade, you can stand in the middle, and make sure you have a view of the it's a Small World facade and the Matterhorn. If you're going to watch the fireworks, and then the 2nd showing of the parade you're still going to have to position yourself to watch the fireworks, and the Carnation Cafe suggestions are good. You should hang around after the fireworks to wait for the parade then.

I like the first suggestion better - watch the parade by it's a Small World, and then see if the fireworks, then go on attractions, if that is what you would like to do.

The point for us eating at CC wasn't to watch the parade; it was to be in that area of the park for the fireworks. I didn't even request to sit outside because we were planning on watching the second parade and wanted it to be a total surprise. After doing what we did, and replicating it the second night without eating at CC...it isn't necessary. But we needed to eat somewhere the first night, and it helped us to figure out what to do two nights later when my husband and youngest daughter joined us.

We followed the plan of hanging out in the Main Street shops during the first parade. We then jumped in the street to watch the fireworks. We stood on the left side of the street near the ice cream shop. A tree partiality blocked the view. The projections on the buildings were cool.

The second night we went to the shops on the right side of the street. After the parade, we jumped into the street at the camera store. We got in the middle of the street and had a great view of the castle and fireworks. It was an amazing show.

does a castle view enhance the show like it did with RDCT? I cant imagine watching them from IASW and not having the castle, but if its not centered around the castle then I guess that would be ok. We will have a couple of opportunities to see the show while we are there so we could try different views. I originally thought that watching it from the mainstreet train station would be good, because of the projections, but I havent seen anyone report it would be a good view. I dont want to waste time in a location that doesnt give a great view.

We could see the projections on the castle from the camera shop but it was hard to tell what they were. You could tell that something was there. They did enchance the show but the music had more of an impact.

The projections do significantly enhance the fw show, in my opinion, but they project the same thing on the facade of small world and I personally think, unless you have a great, unobstructed view of the castle, small world is better. It's a larger surface for the projections and far fewer people.

We were there last week and decided we would rather have a less crowded, more enjoyable view of the parade and fireworks, and not have to fight the crazy crowds. I found an amazing spot by small world where we could see the small world façade, and the matterhorn in case we wanted to stay in our parade spots for the fireworks. I sat down between 6:45 and 7:00 for the 8:30 parade, but could have waited a little longer. I sat with our blanket, and my husband and kids joined me about 7:20 or 7:30 (they actually tried to get their earlier, but ended up needing a bathroom break). We ate dinner while waiting, had an awesome view for the parade, and then when the parade was over, packed up our stuff into the stroller and moved a little closer to small world. We stayed near the back of the pack so the kids could see (with us holding them on our hips so their heads were no taller than ours) and we could see the projections on small world, the fireworks by small world, the matterhorn, and a peek of the other fireworks (I think they were by the fantasmic area). It was a great view, and we did not feel disappointed at all by not seeing the projections on main street and the castle. Would it have been cool to see the effects there? Sure... but for us, not worth the potential madhouse.

Thanks for explaining this about the projections on small world. I am hoping to watch the fireworks from there in October since I don't think my kids can handle the crowds on Main St and then was worried we wouldn't get to see the projection part of the show. I even searched and watched a youtube video of the Halloween fireworks from small world and it looks like a great place to see the show! Now to see how late the kids can stay up!
